Just walking on by.

Nursing is a calling. Nursing is Caring. If you haven't got the calling, no do o because of money.
When eventually, I lay in a sick bed, May God grant me compassionate nurses, Amen
Engineering is also caring too... do you know lots of considerations we put when making ergonomics designs as well as plans.. we are very very more safety conscious, safety of our environment as well as humans ... honestly speaking I discovered most ppl do care jobs more while studying and even after studying irrespective of their field of study .... so I been in a STEM field already wont be much of a hassle... it's just dat I need information dat would make me make d right decision... I can still work in my field mech eng.. but of what use will it be if I have a certificate in that field and never get to use it any day in my life... I currently just resigned as a contract staff from one of d DISCOs in Nigeria and I have never practiced engineering ... so why wont I change career while in the UK to do something more worthwhile

She has sociology Bsc and master in medical social (MSW). Now she is planning to relocated to UK under the UK health and care visa. The problem is that if her Nigeria degrees is enough to get her job with sponsor in the UK and how best way to go about it.... Please anybody with any easy ideas to help out

Good morning

Sadly my sch travel didnt work due to one or two reasons. .
Funds went into something else, i got married and now i am making plans to come over.
Though not as a student but dependent .
My Wife passed ielts and hospitals are already calling her for jobs in UK.

My question are.. .
1. do you think its possible to continue with my studying wen i come.
2. As a dependent are there jobs i can do to add up and keep the family going.
3. In ur view what's ur best advise or suggestions on areas i am not considering.
Wish i could have a phone talk

1. Continue your study as in? The previous admission that you didn’t meet up with? You can study on a dependant visa so long as you have your money to pay tuition as you will still be paying as an international student.

2. Yes, there are jobs and you can work and must work as a matter of fact, your wife’s income alone can’t sustain you as a family.

3. That’s for you to search and ask google based on your personal preference and decide. Also, it will depend on where your wife gets a job

All the best!

Like @lexusg430 said, you need to go back and read through the thread

Whatever happened to IT as a profession of choice.
They are currently the highest paid, you can work remotely.

You don't have to care about your machines.
I feel IT is more of your experience/ professional certifications and personal projects you've done will be needed for you to even get a job not the degree certificate... my thoughts though being good at what you do in IT takes more time.. more especially when you are not in working in that field and coupled with lots of competition around.. I feel the competition in nursing and care jobs are lesser compared to IT field I can still do the IT thing as I've done some trainings in d past on graphics design, fortran 77 n 90, and Microsoft Azure AZ-900 which I started earlier this year but had to discontinue because of work load pressure... I've seen most job adverts for IT field they require you to know upto like 5 programming languages... it's not like nursing where you get to specialize in one field and grow there... mind you I'm not also scrapping IT line... but man if you reason am well how do I write my SOP when applying for admission as well as going for visa interview to convince dem I want to do IT when my background is ENGINEERING and even if I decide to switch after one degree in UK to IT ... how soon can job come as Bill's go dey build up

Good day house and all the gurus.. please I need enlightenment on this issue... I am currently in Nigeria and hoping to relocate to the UK God's willing next year.. I came across a youtube channel on study and work abroad wherein I contacted the owner and the he told me its possible to take masters in SOCIAL WORK as it has lots of opportunities or the PRE REGISTRATION MASTERS in Nursing programme with specialtyin mental health and after which I can get a job very easily even when my first degree is not in nursing... I currently have a BSC in mechanical engineering... how feasible is this considering I will be switching field and I starting a new career in a country I've never had any form of experience...... what are the factors to consider, school to apply, cost of programme and building professional work experience if I intend to go through this path.. I need advice as well as suggestions... GURUS IN D HOUSE, DOCTORS, NURSES.. your inestimable response is highly very needed...
Thanks in anticipation

Engineering is also on the shortage list. Why don’t you just further your education in that instead?

I wish to further in my field Mechanical engineering... my worry is I don't have any cognate ENGINEERING experience.... so I'm a little bit scared it might be difficult getting a job.... I am willing to build a career in my engineering field ... but I don't want to waste my time waiting for what is not coming forth .. like I am doing here in Nigeria.... I will also like people who have a similar background like my self to help out on how they got ENGINEERING jobs in the UK after masters

MIL provides all she can......

I would say this visa application is 50/50....... Depends on how you tidy your end.......

You would still provide 100% of supporting documentations (bank statements + payslips + accommodation details (mortgage deed/rental agreement) + a precise letter of invitation, indicating you are sponsoring her trip and all expenses on you guys......

Both of you would have to provide supporting documents........

In addition to the above, you can use the next 6months to ensure regular income is going into her account and also print that to show she can support herself as well incase anything happens she won't be stranded in the UK.

Generally, older people's application gets approved easily. All the best

Does she have other children and grandchildren in Nigeria? What about her husband? If she does, you will get a letter from her husband and also include it in the letter of invitation that after the visit she will be returning back to her other children, grandchildren and husband.

@justwise, @Lexusgs430 and all other visa gurus

We want my mother in law to visit us in the UK, say in six months time and we want to ensure we get the foundation of the application right from now.

Our main concern is proving she has ties with Nigeria.
She doesn’t work in employment, but runs several small businesses. None of which are registered. She doesn’t have a landed property in her name, that can be used as prove of home tie.

We randomly send money to her, so not a consistent monthly stipend.

We need advice on how to prove her home tie and also plan for the application. We would be the sponsor for the trip.

Hello Ola, let’s always remember that this is life where everything doesn’t always go as planned.
I have seen people who get accommodation in 1-2 weeks, i have seen others as well who don’t secure a place in like 2 months.

If i tell you can secure a place in 20 days, what happens in you are unable to do so? Have you got extra cash for more days on airbnb?(if you do then you can go with the airbnb option, whereas if you don’t it could be a risky option)

If i were in your shoes i would accept the accommodation my family is offering at Manchester. The location might not meet my requirements but at least i could stay there and gradually look for an accommodation in my desired location without being under any pressure.

Living in a shared accommodation as someone highlighted can be very challenging even with your kids but who knows you might get a very good place.

Just to add the time scale required to find a place depends on a lot of factors such as if you have enough money to pay upfront for rent as you are new to the uk, if you going to rent directly from landlord or agent, if you find an accommodation that suits the family needs and so on.

In summary stay away from any option that puts the family under unnecessary stress, duress and financial strain and most importantly pray about your plans.

Thank you. Your advice is very insightful.

Living in Manchester and travelling to Bradford for lectures? Your husband must be loaded, bad idea to be honest.

Book Airbnb for a week in Bradford and within that period you people should be able to get a house.

I lived in Bradford for about 6yrs and I know that Bradford is not as bad as people make it. Search for house in these post codes: BD5 and BD7, they are within the university and college proximity and loads of student accommodations. Bradford is not dominated by Asians alone , Eastern Europeans has taken over and you also have a good number of Africans there.

If you don’t like Bradford then Leeds is an alternate, 20mins away by train, 45mins by First bus, Leeds is like London of Yorkshire , well developed, a bit of all races there and also affordable to live.

As always before leaving Nigeria search for houses, book viewing appointments , when you get to the Uk have a look at the university notice board for accommodation ads, Internatioal centre also has list of private landlords you can contact for accommodation

Thank you much.

We'd definitely focus attention on getting accommodation in Bradford, Halifax or Leeds. If we don't secure one before we reach the UK, we'd go to Manchester for the quarantine period and after, work out our Bradford accommodation from there.

Please, are there any landlords you can direct us to? This will be greatly appreciated.

Did you just get into the UK recently for studies?
What school?
I really don't have an answer to your question but need clarity myself

Did you go on scholarship?

Hello. I will be traveling to the UK this week for my masters (social work at the university of Kent). You advised someone not to own a car as a new comer...all prospective social workers coming to my school were asked to get a car by January (when placement starts). I was awarded a £3000 scholarship but it has no bearing on the compulsory ownership of a car

You don't need any SOP for most UK universities. The UK does not conduct visa interviews. Anybody that is interested can study IT related courses. If you need to, state why you chose the course.
IT is much more than coding. There are IT fields you can get into with 3months of training/study. If you insist on a masters, subjects like cyber security and Data science could give you a very good chance of getting a job.

Honestly dustydee.. I am very very happy with this.... then I guess I will be switching to the IT field ... I had this in mind initially till I started hearing different stories that confused me... so if its possible to do the IT thing with my first degree, then I will definitely go for it...
Now concerning the bolded where will I have to state why I choose the course if I don't need an SOP

Doing business while holding student visa is illegal, if you are caught your school will not support you and your admission is likely to be cancelled and visa curtailed .

I suggest you hold on till you get your PSW then you can go flat-out into business

@bronzedigger, like someone advised why not consider IT degrees such as data analysis, business analyst etc. You can get jobs in those as well. Gaining admission into Msc Nursing for someone without experience or background in health care is tough but not impossible. The schools offering admission into those courses are also limited so get ready for tough interview and some RPL assessment before getting admission.

Assuming you are going for data analysts for example, you can easily create your SOP and relate it to your experience in analysing data, developing CAD drawings, site works etc.

Meanwhile, as someone in construction, I would advise you to consider staying in the profession rather than jumping on the train of changing into nursing or any other career. I would advise you to consider Civil Engineering degrees as there are loads of jobs in the field for Project Engineers that can easily transition into Project Managers etc. Whilst that of mech engineers can be limited. Infact right now, if you have the knowledge of using Primavera software is an added advantage to work as Project Engineer/Planner and a lot of companies will rush to employ you.

All the best as you make your choice.
