WWE SMACKDOWN REVIEWS RECAPS AND REACTIONS

This was a perfect promo from Edge to really bring home what this match against Seth Rollins at SummerSlam is all about.
Look at that man.
That is a man who has been driven to the brink of madness, a place he knows very well because he spent the majority of the most successful runs of his career existing in that space. He likes it. He always liked it, at least in part because it brought him that success. He is not that man anymore, though. No, the man he is today has everything to do with the kind of perspective one can only get by going through a near career-ending injury.
Rollins using that injury against him, with a finish that could put him right back where he was before, then, is unacceptable to the point of being enough to drive him back to the dark place he left behind. He just has to channel that.
He’s doing so, too, and we know this because he broke down Rollins’ promo from last week’s episode of SmackDown to its core. The message wasn’t so much about the threats Rollins was making. No, the realization Edge came to is that Seth actually believes all this bullshit he’s spewing.
That makes him far more dangerous than your run-of-the-mill A-hole. He’s radical. There’s only one way to deal with a guy like that, in a situation like this. “I don’t just have to beat you, I have to break you. I have to humble you. And Seth, oh Seth, at SummerSlam I am going to BURN. YOU. DOWN.”
Rollins got the chance to respond later, and you could really tell how well Edge’s promo worked because the crowd would hardly let him talk.
I’m not the biggest fan of the direction they went next — Edge using The Brood music, cutting a Brood promo, and then dumping black goo all over Seth in the ring. It’s a bit too theatrical for everything they set up before it, which felt so raw and personal without needing those kind of theatrics. But this is WWE, you gotta take this kind of thing as part of the deal.
Either way, this is going to be good.

For the sake of transparency, it’s much harder to write about this Roman Reigns-John Cena promo segment after watching CM Punk’s return to pro wrestling in AEW on Rampage.
Having said that, the crowd helped it feel like the kind of big deal WWE has been hoping it would be. I still can’t agree with how meta they’ve gone with the story, and they pressed down on that button once again this week. Cena did well enough to intersperse the meta talk with his refrain of only needing to keep Reigns down for the count of three but it’s hard to ignore him saying things like “isn’t it obvious? They promoted this as the ‘Summer of Cena,’ I’m here to demote you.”
It’s a cutesy line, but it’s too cutesy for my blood.
It also goes against Cena’s entire character and what he was supposed to represent, but I hardly think that even matters or should be the focus here. Reigns threw in the stipulation that he’ll leave WWE if he loses, Cena agreed to it, then got the upper hand on him to show that it can be done.
We can all be reasonably certain it won’t be done but the good news is these two tend to deliver in big matches like this. If Vegas has the same energy this crowd did, it’s going to be electric. Sometimes that’s enough to make the details fade into the background.

All the rest
It’s worth pointing out that Rey and Dominik were arguing backstage before Rey’s match against Jey Uso. They couldn’t get along about the way things went down last week before getting on the same page for this week. Or so we thought. Dom tried to cheat to help Rey win, and dad didn’t like that. He got tossed out by the referee and when Rey went outside to scold him, The Usos took advantage and scored a victory. This was well executed to make clear there are internal issues in the Mysterio camp ahead of their tag team title rematch at SummerSlam.

I’m legitimately shocked that WWE came up with a genuinely compelling story for the Money in the Bank contract and that silly briefcase. Bum Ass Baron Corbin, as the impeccable Pat McAfee has taken to calling him, is such a desperate sack of sadness that he’s gone from being a beggar to a thief. He stole the briefcase last week, and when Big E came to collect this week, it felt so damn good seeing him lay those big forearms right into Baron’s cranium. It was equally maddening to see Baron once again manage to snake the briefcase away and run off with it again while pat said "ther is a 6foot6 trash bag running out of the stadium and he has the money in the bank briefcase". I am very much looking forward to the next time Big E catches up with him.

Bianca Belair is incredibly talented and absolutely worthy of being champion of the blue brand but there’s been something missing during this babyface run with the title. That something was the edge she displayed during her “I’m absolutely fed up with all this shit” promo on this show. I’m not entirely sure why, but it hits so much harder when she gets some attitude before saying she’s the EST of WWE instead of being happy go lucky about it. This was made all the better by her beating Zelina Vega and then Carmella, back-to-back.

Shotzi & Tegan Nox defeated Natalya & Tamina Stuka, the current women’s tag team champions. The commentary team called this a “major upset,” which is awfully strange considering Shotzi & Nox have defeated Nattie & Tamina literally every time they’ve wrestled since the two were called up to the main roster weeks ago. Three times in total in tag matches, and also Nox beat Tamina in a singles match for good measure. But, hey, it’s good to see Natalya looks healthy and is already back from that awful looking injury!

They’ve committed to getting this new, more serious version of Otis over and I still can’t decide how I feel about it. I don’t like that it’s been at the expense of The Street Profits, but I also don’t even know if it will ultimately work. I still have a hard time seeing Otis and not hearing that hilarious way he used to talk to TUCK-AY. Just me?

I don’t want to overreact or anything but I’m pretty sure BOOGS is world title material. That man played guitar on Apollo Crews during an abdominal stretch, and then pinned him right there in the middle of the ring. He’s going places. Another shout to McAfee for this one when fans were cheering for his name: “they’re not booing; they’re BOOGS’ing!”
This was a fun show!

I hope he can keep his ego in check and not burn bridges there.
The crowd reaction to him was really amazing, Chicago really loves the boy...he has challenged Darby Alin and Sting, that should be a fun feud...
I'm excited to see what they will do with him after that and also when someone will inevitably talk about his failed MMA career in a feud

Good show overall. The constant rematches between mysterious and usos is mind boggling. Same applies to Shotzi/Nox vs Tamina/Natayla. You fight the champs over and over again in order to fight them again for the title? I wasn't thrilled with the fact that the former IC champion, Apollo got pinned by a debuting Rick Boogz. Sasha and Belair still have my interest. I think there making Otis a serious title contender. I love this Corbin storyline. The Roman Reigns stipulation raises the stakes but is a giveaway to the winner of that match.

Bruh, Boogs pinning Apollo automatically makes him a that to be taken seriously and the man oozes charisma

I wouldn't want them to do that, a straight up wrestling match should suffice, but both men are ring generals and they can deliver with almost any gimmick given to them tho

Hello guys. How are you'll doing today? I'm sorry this review is coming late. Unforseen circumstances. But I'm guessing everyone here already has a clue of what I'm going to post... Lets get right to it.
Re: Purpl3's WWE (and Pro-wrestling in general) Discussion And Banter House by ValeeLove(m): 6:43pm On Aug 21, 2021
Let's get to it...

It's another Friday. Everyone's gonna watch SmackDown by 9pm and probably wouldn't wait till 10 for another wrestling show...not this time. The world stood still while 15,316 fans in the United Center where chanting..."CM Punk!!", "CM Punk!!" Baby it's good to have goosebumps again in wrestling. One of my favorite wrestlers was back and he looked great too...be back on that in a sec.

The lineup for last night's AEW Rampage: The First Dance was:

Jurassic Express vs Private Party to find out who will move to the next round for the AEW tag team elimination tournament. The eventually winner will face the AEW champions for the belt in a steel cage match at All Out.

Jade Cargill vs Kiera Hogan

Jon Moxley vs Daniel Garcia

Taz, Mark Henry, Excalibur and Jim Ross who replaced Jericho where all on commentary and did a better job than last week's too.

We move.

The whole United Center was filled with fans from up to down, left to right chanting CM Punk as the home town hero came out to Living Colour's "Cult of Personality". One word signified this moment. Goosebumps. I felt it so strong in my body and I wasn't even in the arena. The slow walk, the swag. Punk is the man! I could try my best to explain but you gotta go watch it yourself to get a better picture. It was awesome. He looked far and near to see his passionate fans who have waited for him to return for 7 long years. This wasn't a return to WWE, it was a return to pro-wrestling. He did his signature turn and walked slowly, like he always did, but couldn't help embracing the fans left and right. The excitement was in the air, happiness, joy all around, grown men shedding tears on national TV, I found water in my eyes men I didn't know when. What an embrace it was. They almost didn't let him go and he didn't want to. After a little more of it, Chicago Made was in the ring. His song ended, in a dark sweater and the crowd chanting "CM Punk!". This guy dey move crowd true true. And then it came to pass, CM Punk once again held a microphone in his hands and began to cut a promo and what a promo it was... Again you might have to watch it yourself to get the full grasp of it. Guys, it was great! He addressed the fans at the arena. You could clearly see he was happy to be back. He FEELS Chicago. He addressed the fans he's disappointed for leaving the ring because he couldn't return back to the place that got him sick in the first place; I'm one of those fans. He knows they understand. Punk takes off his sweater because the place was 'hot' to reveal his new T-shirt, a cosplay to his "Best in The World" one. The crowd goes ballistic. To my favorite moment that night, CM sits on the mat with his legs crossed. O! How cool was this. The fans understand. He tells a story. A story of how he left professional wrestling on August 13th 2005 in tears and came back, the way he sees it, to professional wrestling on August 20th 2021; that day is going to be in the history books. He's up. The crowd is energized and ballistic. Noise everywhere you could only hear Punk on the microphone. He says he's back for the fans, for himself( he's not gonna lie), to settle somes scores in the locker room and for the new array of talent. Darby Allin. For those who are not aware, Darby stays on the rafters or at the topmost parts the arena whenever he's been addressed by another opponent. I was surprised to see him there, but once Punk mentioned his name and looked up to the possibility of him appearing there, he did, with Sting though. Punk praised Darby for his talent and work. Says he will see Darby and Sting on September 5th at All Out. That's a challenge. Just in case. JR feels chills down his spine. Punk promises everyone icecream bars on their way out and it's gonna be on him. The guy go get emoney well be that o. grin His music hits and he's in all smiles again after a long long time. I feel like shedding tears as I write this... Damn. The commentators waste no time in having their icecream bars. Lol. We move on to the next one.

Christian is seen motivating Jurassic Express here after their loss to The Young Bucks caused by the interference from The Good Brothers. He insults them, the Elite Squad and Kenny Omega specially as they prepare for their match at All Out.
Jurassic Express vs Private Party accompanied by Matt Hardy. The cocky Young Bucks come into the arena to inspect the match on the ramp. The other AEW tag teams are shown in the crowd.
To the match. It was great. Little story telling. Lots of STUNTS and moves. Matt Hardy trying to get involved and Marko Stunt attacking him. Typical AEW fun tag team match. Chicago crowds are always loud and energetic. At the end the right team won. Jurassic Express beat Private Party with a crazy double team move ending with a power bomb. Damn... And Jungle Boy's music is played.

We move to Mr Kenny Omega and Mr Don Callis backstage. I called them "Mr" cos they were both on suit. Kenny looks kinda funny in one. Haha. grin Don Callis, the great talker, talks about how Jurassic Express's immediate win is a fluke just like "last week's" Christian's win. Kenny continues from there. He says he's going to retire Christian at All Out. Michael Nakazawa was behind them also.

The next match is in place. Jade Cargill comes out with her funny heel manager(forgot his name. MJF's lawyer on the road to All Out). Kiera is already in the ring and the match starts on the go. She gets some seconds of offence and taunting but is quickly finished off by Jade as she ends the match with a pinfall. Hail the 'b***h'. She calls herself that but she acts more like a queen or a boss.
Matches for next week's Dynamite are aired.
A video showing Jurassic Express's advancement to the final of the tag team elimination tournament is revealed.
CM Punk's debut in AEW is replayed with JR saying it has topped every moment in wrestling's history. Do you agree?

To the next and final one.
The main event.
Before that, a video of Mark Henry hosting an interview with 2.0, Daniel Garcia and Jon Moxley. 2.0 have guts and really big mouths. Mox LOOKS and talks like he's really gonna kill Daniel in the ring that night.
The entrance of Moxley is shown as he comes out to "Wild Thing". Daniel is in the ring. The match starts as Mox, without wasting time goes ahead to do what he says he was gonna do to Daniel. Beats up Daniel giving me Steve Austin's vibe while doing it. Daniel is able to get a couple of offences of his own with one getting Mox on the leg and causing the 'unsanctionable' wrestler to limp. Mox is hurt, but at the end he counters a Sharp Shooter to a Bull Dog Choke to win the match.
After the match, 2.0 are angry and attack Jon and Kingston as Darby Allin and Sting come out once again that night to aid Mox and Kenny. They beat up and beat out 2.0 and Daniel Gracia to end AEW Rampage: The First Dance and 2nd episode of AEW Rampage. You can hear a "goodnight" from JR.

The match was fun and good as every match with Daniel or 2.0 is. The star power just wasn't strong. Anyway it's good to have Punk back. He is the highlight of the night plus Jungle Boy got to shine.

Am glad I can finally say that CM Punk is All Elite.
