The Defence Headquarters in Abuja has confirmed that bandits breached National Defence Academy (NDA) security fences and kidnapped an officer.

The Director of Defence Information (DDI), General Benjamin Sawyerr, confirmed the incident to our reporter on Tuesday.

LEADERSHIP earlier reported that armed bandits attacked the premier defence institution in the wee hours of Tuesday, killing two officers and abducting four others.

But Sawyerr said the bandits sneaked into the NDA complex at about 0215 hours and abducted an officer and killed two other officers.

He said the operation was well planned as the bandits knew exactly who they wanted and went straight to his accommodation.

“Yes the NDA security was breached by bandits, they sneaked in at about 02:15 hours. It must have been a well planned operation. They went straight into the officers’ accommodation. They knew where they were going. They killed two officers and abducted two.

“The NDA is working closely with troops of 1 Division and NAF. So, we expect that we’ll have positive response from there soon. It is unfortunate thing. NDA is a training institution for cadets, it’s not for cadets to be carrying weapons up and down but I can assure you that NDA will address the situation,” the DDI said.

Bandits attacked NDA kaduna, killed 2 majors and carted away with a few officers too. Are you sure Nigeria still has a functional military?

It pains me we’re in this mess. There’s no good news in Nigeria. What you hear is everyday carnage going on in Jos, Zamfara, Benue, Katsina with little or no resistance from the military. This government is ineffective.

In another man's country not their country... During that period, they made serious revenue from Afghan Oil, Defense industries employed more people and they got to flex their muscle as a world power.

Bandits will not attack Fort Knox or Sandhurst. I mean how will they even do it?

The plan is to complain that the bandits are now attacking critical government institutions and due to that they have to be compensated like the Niger Delta Miltants... Truly like the NDA said it was a well planned operation.

If you ever feel depressed, remember that the "Giant of Africa" elected a retired General as its president, spent billions of dollars on its military, bought squadron of super tucanos and a handful of 4th generation aircrafts, bought 3rd generation MBT, became first sub saharan country to employ the use of UCAV in combat. Just to replace Bokoharam with banditry and allow an attack on its foremost military institution.

Under this tyrant, complaining about things like this or taking matters in your hands would see DSS (GESTAPO) stealing you and your family away in the middle of the night. At least, we could complain and protest under Jonathan.

And let's continue comparing ourselves to Afghanistan because we're a failed state too? Might as well scrap this thread cos some things are beginning to beggar belief.

Officer Gunned Down, ‘Two Majors’ Kidnapped As Bandits Break Into Nigerian Defence Academy

Bandits have invaded the Afaka barracks of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna, killing a naval officer....

By Maryam Ahmadu-Suka,

Bandits have invaded the Afaka barracks of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna, killing a naval officer.

The bandits were also said to have also kidnapped two majors.

Daily Trust gathered that the bandits who attacked the barracks around 1am on Tuesday are still be inside the academy.

A reliable source within the barracks told our correspondent that security has been beefed up within and around the barracks to stop the bandits from escaping with the officers.

“It was a terrible experience, the bandits took advantage of the time when most people had gone to bed to attack the barracks.”

“Right now, the whole barracks is under lock and key and security has been beefed up so that the bandits cannot leave the barracks because it is believed that they are still within,” the source said.

One of the officers who was injured in the attack is currently being treated at a hospital within the barracks.

The source said that there are, however, fears that the bandits may decide to kill the officers in a bid to escape.

The Academy Public Relations Officer, Major Bashir Jajira did not respond to calls put across to him by our correspondent.

I was about to reiterate that for me Nigeria’s major problem (the one that impacts the quality of life of ordinary citizens) is Organisation - the lack thereof. My conclusion, in regards of this security, was going to be that relevant Nigeria institutions seem to act as if there is a Normal Level along which nations travel and that Nigeria also travels along this “Living-Life” level; consequently, occurrences that disrupt this quietly pottering along is remedied by emergency actions after which we must again proceed along the normal Living-Life trajectory. In reality Nations don’t potter along a straight line, they extrapolate, informed by past events as well as future projection, to put in place what we may call progress. There is no comfortable labour and cost saving level along which nations travel. There is never a satisfactory place, only striving changing, adapting, forecasting, anticipating, building, taking down, building better and no rest, no laurels. Given the nature of the insecurity we are facing – the methods adopted by the Deviants - by now every institution in the nation should have meaningfully improved security: schools, collages, hospitals, police stations, Military institutions, Government houses, ship docks, malls, etc, etc. And even then, there is no settling down, updating, extrapolating and improving must continue until the ends of time.

NAF TO INDUCT A-29 SUPER TUCANO AIRCRAFT

The induction ceremony of the newly acquired A-29 Super Tucano aircraft into the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Order of Battle is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 31 August 2021 at the 011 Presidential Air Fleet Apron, Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja by 10.00am. Expectedly, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, will preside over the induction ceremony as the Special Guest of Honour. As part of programmes lined up for the induction ceremony, a symbolic flypast will be performed by some of the newly acquired A-29 Super Tucano aircraft within the vicinity of the induction ceremony.

It would be recalled that the first batch of 6 A-29 Super Tucano aircraft arrived Kano, Nigeria on 22 July 2021. On arrival, the aircraft were received by the Honourable Minister of Defence, Major General Bashir Magashi (Rtd), alongside the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya and the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Oladayo Amao. The second batch of the remaining 6 A-29 Super Tucanos are expected in Nigeria before the end of 2021.

The issue in the north west is a consequence of this administration showing willingness to pay ransom to secure the release of the Dapchi school girls years ago. Criminal gangs are now getting motivated to take to kidnap for ransom, thankfully the attack on the NDA failed, they sure didn't attack the institution with the aim of kidnapping just one person.

That said, all boarding schools and other institutions with mass housing facilities in the Northwest and part of North Central should be shut for now. The bandits have been getting what they want for a long time now. It's time we started denying them what they want.
I believe they are common criminals that have been left for long to organize themselves and grow and not terrorists as all their demands up to this moment are economical and not political.
And then, the senate should request the presence of the service chiefs to come explain themselves and why security has been getting worse and what their plan actually on live TV(with important details omitted obviously).

Any governor serious with the security of his state in that axis should be engaging the services of volunteers and vigilantes. There are millions of people who are ready to volunteer. They should start a city/town at a time then move to the forests. There are thousands of collaborators in the cities benefiting from the ransom industry by giving information to the bandits.

This menace should be given the brutality it deserves.
