Championship club Barnsley have been left frustrated in their attempts to sign Manchester United-reared winger Tosin Kehinde on deadline-day.

Allnigeriasoccer.com has been told that Barnsley have had a 1.7 million euros (N1 billion) bid for Kehinde rejected by Danish Superliga club Randers.

The 2019 Dream Team VII invitee has been heavily courted by Barnsley in the summer transfer window but Randers are playing spoilsport in the proposed deal.

A 2.3 million euros (N1.4 billion) bid from FC Copenhagen for the services of Kehinde was also rejected by the Danish Cup winners.

The 23-year-old emerged as a key player for Randers in 2020-2021, helping the club win their second Danish Cup and finish sixth in the Superliga, contributing two goals and eight assists in 32 games.

And he has picked up from where he left off last season, with a goal involvement of four (1 goal, 3 assists) in seven matches across all competitions in the new campaign.

Kehinde has less than two years to run on his contract from Randers, whom he joined from Portuguese club
CD Feirense in July 2019.

In early August, the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) lost the services of arguably its best player to the Tunisian Ligue Professionnelle 1.

Anayo Iwuala left Enyimba to sign for Tunisian giants Esperance on a three-year deal worth up to $50,000 per month.

The move is a good one for Anayo, not just for his playing career but also financially, as he was earning $1,000 at Enyimba.

However, while this is a fantastic move for the 22-year-old, it also shows the faults in the calls for more local league players in the Nigeria National team.

Since he assumed the role in 2016, Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has had to deal with critics, who have consistently accused him of not giving NPFL players a chance in the national team.

Rohr has always maintained Nigeria’s best players are in Europe, but his critics believe home-based players should also be called up for national team games as that will develop the local league.

In fairness, Rohr has always been the right as the national team is not a charity place where invitations are sent out just because a player plays in the NPFL.

But despite the criticism, the former Burkina Faso manager has always stuck to his guns. But the more he remained defiant, the more the criticism grew.

It even got worse when the Sports Minister Sunday Dare criticised the German publicly. While the criticisms didn’t move Rohr, he did invite two NPFL players for Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin and Lesotho in March.

The players were Anayo Iwuala, who was still with Enyimba then, and Adekunle Adeleke of Abia Warriors. It’s important to note that they were both called up because some European clubs failed to release their players due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Of the two home-based players invited, only Anayo got the chance to play in both games. The 22-year-old came on as a late substitute in both matches.

Three months later, Anayo was once again called up for the friendly matches against Cameroon, playing in both games, while he also led the home-based team in the loss to Mexico on July 4.

What followed after his back-to-back appearances is a move to Esperance. While it’ll be naive to suggest that his national team display is why he got signed, it played a role.

Anayo is actually a talented player and was one of Enyimba’s best players, but his appearance in the national team introduced him to a larger audience.

While that’s good for his career, it does not benefit the NPFL in any way. Although he hasn’t been invited to the latest squad, possible future invitations mean he won’t fall into the home-based category again.

What good is it if the NPFL cannot hold on to its best players? Anayo’s transfer proves that the Super Eagles team is simply an avenue for the home-based players to get a move abroad.

It’s a transit camp. If the home-based players use the Super Eagles as an avenue to seek a move abroad, how does it benefit the growth of the domestic league?

Now that Anayo is no longer a home-based player, Rohr has to invite another NPFL player if he wants to satisfy the critics.

Once he invites them and they also leave for better leagues, he calls up another set, which is an unending process that doesn’t develop the NPFL in any way.

It’s important to note Anayo moved to Tunisia, which means NPFL clubs cannot even stop their players from moving to fellow African teams.

Anayo is not the only player to leave the league in the last few weeks. Recently, Olisa Ndah also signed for Orlando Pirates from Akwa United.

It’s more ironic that it came after the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president Amaju Pinnick revealed the federation would only allow home-based players to leave for top leagues in Europe.

However, the recent developments have shown that they’ve no power to do that, and home-based players advocates are fighting a lost battle against Rohr.

Instead, the energy should be channelled into coming up with ways on how to develop the league, which is not rocket science.

Firstly, the NFF should find a way to make the games available on TV. Although they came up with the idea of the NPFL TV, it died a natural death.

However, ahead of next season, the focus should be on having the games broadcasted on national television. It’s hard to create value in something fans cannot see, which is why having the games on tv is really important.

Also, the players’ welfare needs to be an utmost priority. The league body needs to provide better working conditions for these players because without this, players will continue to seek moves to leagues where the conditions are favourable.

If the league body and NFF do not fix these problems, the league will always continue to deteriorate, and criticism of Rohr’s treatment of the home-based players won’t change that.

Ademola Lookman is on the verge of sealing a transfer to Premier League club Leicester City.

Talks progressed well between Bundesliga club RB Leipzig and Leicester City on Monday and the winger will become the Foxes fifth signing of the summer transfer window.

Sky Sports are now reporting that Lookman is currently “undergoing his medical” ahead of a season-long loan move , with the deal having an option to make it permanent next summer.

The pacy winger spent last season on loan with Fulham, where he caught the eye, despite the Cottagers’ relegation back to the Championship.

He scored four goals and provided a further four assists in 34 league appearances for Fulham.

Lookman joined RB Leipzig from Everton but has failed to establish himself as a first-team regular in the Bundesliga before heading to Fulham on a temporary deal.

Okay o Aburo... Muda Lawal remain one the best DM that came out of Africa with five afcon appearances(76,78,80,82,84)and member of the great team that missed out 78 world cup with Odiye scored Nigeria. He was honour with Africa sport ambassador.

Yes Felix Owolabi is a PhD holder when he was still playing. Adokiye was a university student playing for Nigeria ditto Segun Odegbami an Engineering student. In the 80s to late 90s we have many Nigeria players schooling and still playing the game.

Andrew Uwe was a University of Ife student playing for U20,Nosa Osadolor Unilag, Adeolu Adekola Unilag, Olaolu Ashaolu unilorin,Tunde Sanni Uni Ife,Patrick Ikeji former NSC director,Gabriel Jigbale OAU and some members of Nigeria U20 to Mexico 83,U17 and U20 85,Saudi 89 and Scotland 89 went to United States to further their studies....to be noted Jonathan Akpoborie and Mike Emenalo graduated from United States universities before going to Europe for professional careers.

I think the lured of lucrative contracts in Europe has put stop to these unless the ambitious one like Ndidi who I heard is doing his degree now.

Honestly good to have degree as a player cos my good friend Seyi Olofinjana is reaping it now and also a close pal like ex polish international Emma Olasadebe, Niyi Ogunlana, Akeem Lawal, Dayo Ajoge.

Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report that former Nigeria U20 captain Ikouwem Udo has ended his association with Israeli club Maccabi Haifa.

Croatian top-flight side NK Slaven Belupo are set to announce the signing of Udo on a permanent deal.

The promising left-back passed his physical examination with flying colours, paving the way for him to sign a two-year deal that will keep him at NK Slaven Belupo until the end of the 2022-2023 season.

Udo's transfer to Maccabi Haifa did not go as planned as he struggled to break into the first team, making only two starts during his stint with the Greens.

And as a result, the former Enyimba star was loaned out to Bnei Sakhnin for the whole of last season.

Udo was one of the Flying Eagles players that left with his reputation intact after their dismal performance at the 2019 FIFA U20 World Cup, leading to his nomination for the prestigious Golden Boy.

NK Slaven Belupo, who are ninth in the HNL table after seven matches, travel to Rijeka in their first game after the international break on September 11.

Baba abeg leave FG out of this jare. The NFF makes enough money to start building a national training center. If they started the Project Like years ago, they for don finish am by now. The annoying part is that no NFF president, past or present is even planning on embarking on such project.

False. Do you have proof that the NFF makes enough money? Have you seen their yearly budgetary and expenses to be able to make this bold declaration?

They make enough money yet they owe coaches and players on regular basis?

The Federal government bears the responsibility for us not having training centres and facilities for our team. That is why they have the ministry of sports. Unfortunately, Nigeria has not really been blessed with visionary leaders.
