RenaissanceGuy:If you claim that Lagos is a planned city, then you do not know what planning is...in the least! |

aribisala0:I am surprised that in this 2021, some supposedly educated Nigerian Youths still believe that you can compare development of cities by posting pictures of the cities especially obviously biased and selectively chosen pictures. |
| Re: Onitsha A Model For Nigerian Cities by oyatz(m): 6:05am On Aug 29, 2021 |
Abohboy:Can you elaborate why you think Onitsha city planning model is the best and should be copied? 1) How many people is Onitsha designed for? 2) What is the method for provision of water for the residents of Onitsha? 3) What's the method of sewage and domestic waste disposal in Onitsha? 4) How many police posts per area in Onitsha? 5) What's the percentage of undeveloped green belt in Onitsha? 6) How many kilometers of tarred roads are in Onitsha? |
| Re: Onitsha A Model For Nigerian Cities by oyatz(m): 6:10am On Aug 29, 2021 |
Abohboy:You probably assume that Tall buildings (3-4 storey buildings) is the only thing about planned cities. In reality, many Nigerian cities are planned but the implementation of these plans became difficult due to Leadership failures. |
| Re: Onitsha A Model For Nigerian Cities by Abohboy(op): 10:44am On Aug 29, 2021 |
oyatz:I never said shit about planning I said highrises should be built in more Nigerian cities instead of these bungalows or small compounds for one family because Nigeria has an acute housing problem |
| Re: Onitsha A Model For Nigerian Cities by aribisala0(m): 12:34pm On Aug 29, 2021 |
Abohboy:Why? Why are high rises a good thiing Especially the "Onitsha type" Does it have any thing special about its design or just BECAUSE it is a high rise What is the water plan? What is the sanitation/sewage plan for high rise buildings in Onitsha? What is the safety of those buildings what do they cook with? Gas? If so is this in cylinders or via pipeline? How safe is it in terms of Fire risk What is the fire and general safety record of these buildings? What is the social infrastructure plan e.g. provision for leisure/sports and social interaction Are they a good idea in the North where the temperatures are high and there is generally plenty of land? You just wake up overdose yourself on akpu and prescribe Onitsha style high rise for everybody Is Onitsha a fun or enjoyable place to live? Nigeria does not have an acute housing problem. It is a chronic problem. The problem is essentially one of uncontrolled urbanization and the solution is rural development not Onitsha style high rise buildings. How affordable are those Onitsha style high rise apartments as a means of solving a housing problem? |

|
| Re: Onitsha A Model For Nigerian Cities by aribisala0(m): 11:21am On Sep 02, 2021 |
ABlAstate:Very foolish pictures In terms of size It might surprise you to know that Ibadan in terms of Size (3080 sq. km) is about 60 times the size of Onitsha at 52 sq. km) and more than half the size of the whole of Anambra (4800 sq. km) Ibadan is almost the same size as Lagos State. There is no basis for comparing it to a tiny village |
| Re: Onitsha A Model For Nigerian Cities by Nobody: 12:35pm On Sep 02, 2021 |
aribisala0:does size equals development?? I'm so ashamed of you |
| Re: Onitsha A Model For Nigerian Cities by aribisala0(m): 12:41pm On Sep 02, 2021 |
Grgton:No size does not equal development By the way I never said it does did I Do pictures equal development? |
| Re: Onitsha A Model For Nigerian Cities by aribisala0(m): 12:47pm On Sep 02, 2021 |
Grgton:Size does not equal development but t matters for comparison If the comparison is to have any meaning e.g Onitsha has a population density of 5000/ sq km compared to Ibadan with 470/sq Km This makes Onitsha a very crowded space Size matters when you compare because by size Onitsha is not much bigger than a village. Its transport needs etc are very different and the point I was making is a simple one accessible to intelligent minds If you are comparing Ibadan that is 60 X the size of Onitsha by means of photograph Then you would need 60 photographs of Ibadan for every 1 of Onitsha Onitsha is too small for any logical comparison |
| Re: Onitsha A Model For Nigerian Cities by RIVERS1stson: 2:16pm On Sep 02, 2021 |
I am from Rivers state but truth must be told, Onitsha is like Dallas compare to Ibadan. Onitsha is one of the best cities in Nigeria after Lagos and PH. Onitsha is the most prominent frontline city in south east and south south after PH. Ibadan is a slum built with mud houses, more of the houses in Ibadan doesn't have toilets and running water, this is opposite of Onitsha that has decent homes, running water, toilet water systems, etc 1. Ibadan 2. Onitsha aribisala0:

aribisala0:you didn't answer my question!! Does a city size determine how modernize it looks From pictures posted here, can you say onitsha looks more developed because of It's size If it's by size, Lagos should look More beautiful and modernize than London because Lagos city has a huge landmass. .. .. stale comparison here! |
| Re: Onitsha A Model For Nigerian Cities by Nobody: 2:35pm On Sep 02, 2021 |
aribisala0:but your said otherwise earlier!! If it's by size Tokyo shouldn't look modernized ?? No basis of comparison between Ibadan and onitsha because from pictures here, obviously onitsha looks cool... |
| Re: Onitsha A Model For Nigerian Cities by aribisala0(m): 2:38pm On Sep 02, 2021 |
Grgton:Go back and read your question And read the first statement of my response You answer the question Do photos equal development The point is Ibadan is 60 times the size of Onitsha so if you want to do photo comparison would will need 60 photographs of Ibadan for every one of Onitsha That is simple logic |
| Re: Onitsha A Model For Nigerian Cities by aribisala0(m): 2:38pm On Sep 02, 2021 |
Grgton:Provide the quote where I said otherwise? |
| Re: Onitsha A Model For Nigerian Cities by Nobody: 2:44pm On Sep 02, 2021 |
aribisala0:I don't give a fuvk about the size okay... Ibadan can occupy the whole of Africa, that shouldn't be a reason for it not to look like onitsha regardless of size!! Being a big city doesn't matter!! The onitsha you refer as small doesn't even end only on two LGas (onitsha north and South) the city is built up, extending to different LGAs... .. you can use your Google... |
| Re: Onitsha A Model For Nigerian Cities by aribisala0(m): 3:00pm On Sep 02, 2021 |
Grgton:In order to determine what Onitsha looks like or that it looks better than Ibadan as you are surmising the point is we will need more that ONE PHOTOGRAPH A lot more And size comes into it because we would need 60 times the number of photographs for Ibadan I do not have time for the photograph stunts but from the photos I have seen nothing has convinced me to withdraw the prize of the dirtiest place on earth from Onitsha and Aba which are both tied for first prize |
| Re: Onitsha A Model For Nigerian Cities by Ngorbungor(m): 3:17pm On Sep 02, 2021 |
aribisala0:Please can you accept that you've lost this debate, you are just contradicting yourself, Ibadan can't beat Onitsha in anything |
| Re: Onitsha A Model For Nigerian Cities by Nobody: 4:08pm On Sep 02, 2021 |
aribisala0:you ended up confusing yourself!! |
| Re: Onitsha A Model For Nigerian Cities by aribisala0(m): 7:51pm On Sep 02, 2021 |
