Imagine the very small strike squad that was equipped and managed by a South African war lord. How much impact they made back during GEJ. Now compare that to the whole frigging south African military. Bunch of evolution favored bad asses whose balls where never meant to be left dangling cus of the sheer weight of it.

I am not here to glorify another man's military I am here to say that we are not there yet. We have a lot to learn from the Southies. It is not a bad thing to accept that the Southies and the Algerians even the Ethiopians are a military power houses in Africa. While Nigeria struggles with managing small poorly equipped militias within its territory.

While Nigeria is buying Tucanos to chase around terrorist in a noisy and antiquated ww2 manner. Giving them more rooms to practice their plane downing skills. Algeria on the other hand is placing orders for 5th generation jet fighters that will defend its territory...

Stop saying rubbish.

I wonder how you people believe 100+ men gave the victory we got before 2015 election.

The war was largely fought by the Nigerian military. A lot of our SF came back during that period from different countries in thousands and you decide to give the glory to a man that controlled just 100+ men over a territory as large as some countries.

At least we now have them in Mozambique. The whole world would see their black ass.

their asses are not just black it has other colors too. They have white and brown. In fact you can tell just how racially diversified the South African military is from just looking at the color of their asses.

What nonsense?. What did Barlow achieve?. How many super Tucanoes have been downed since the aircraft was developed?.
Algeria's 5th Gen aircraft are not for terrorists. Only a dunce (and you may be one) chases insurgents with $10,000 per hour 5th Gen aircraft.

Absolutely true. Some people are in awe of anyone and anything that will denigrate Nigeria. Anything foreign is better than Nigeria. They are the type that will be happy if any foreigner agrees to their posts. And even if without fact and are quick to support any rubbish written against their country. They are the type that in this country will call a Chinese man master. They have No self esteem, no pride, nothing. Mtcheeew.

P. S: Make una dey there. I dey see through most of these guys comments. Dem dey dey happy when Bleep up happen for our own end. Most of them wey dey here na frenemies. Especially our so called sub saharan brothers.

MI-24 is the export version from Ukraine. It usually has a chin mounted quad-barrel 12.7mm gun.

We have the MI-24V, MI-35P & MI-35M in service.

The helicopter pictured above is the MI-35P.

In Russia it is called the MI-24.

The U.S. senate and house has been fudging on the sale of a dozen attack helicopters to us... undecided

... Reuters elaborated in reporting this week that, according to several sources last month, “the proposed sale of 12 attack helicopters and related equipment was being delayed in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and the House Foreign Affairs Committee.” ....

@Covert1 has made an outstanding, roboust counter-argument, but I'll like to go a different route.

Equipment

South-African Valour class frigates were ordered in 1999, that is 22 years ago. There has been no evidence of any sort of mid-life upgrade, so to make a claim that they are modern is quite ridiculous.

Same argument can would be made for their submarines.

SAAF Gripens were also ordered 22 years ago, there are multiple Gripen upgrade packages available in the base C/D model, none have been carried out on the Gripens.

Attack Helicopters SAAF has 9 units in service, 1 Rooivalk crashed, another is used as a test bed.

They only have 9 in service, SAAF Attack Helicopters are not more modern than the MI-35M Nigeria has in service.

The Umkhonto Air Defence system is only installed on the Valour Frigates, nowhere else. You need to stop exaggerating the SANDF.

169 Oerlikon GDF 35mm guns, along with 75 Superfledermaus fire control units (FCUs)
Skyshield air defence systems,
Thales Air Defence Starstreak
.......... These are very, very old systems.

The SANDF does not have any ELINT system.

Link-ZA is a basic communication system, all capable militaries in Africa have a Data-Link system.

That's how for example Commanders in Abuja can see in real-time footage and information from Drones flying over Gwoza, from a Mobile control station in Yola.

Apart from 15 upgraded Tanks, the SA army field Olifant Tanks which are World War II Centurion tanks. Nothing modern about them.
The sheer ignorance of you and Covert1 has awakened me from the dead.

But let me destroy you:

FYI or Valour class frigates were commissioned in 2006....that's 15 years not 22.......
Nigeria doesn't even have a frigate, or any sort of offensive navy platforms

- Saaf has had a contract with SAAB for years now which includes receiving all Gripan C/D upgrades when they become available. NAF has 3 JF17 (Literally mig upgrades) that have been classified by the manufacturer itself as a 3rd gen fighter

- there are 11Rooivalk in service with Saaf.... Not 9 wink blatant lies will never change reality cool also yes in terms of capability they destroy mi35s which FYI can't even fvcking hover..

- the Umkhonto SAM system is part of GBADS...so yeah it isn't just fitted to our frigates grin grin grin

- Our Oerlikon have been upgraded to the latest gdf007 standard..... Which is far from an old system and used by some of the most modern defence forces in the world

- LinkZA is a TDL..... The fact that you think its a basic communication system shows how clueless you are on the subject.....there is a reason only a handful of countries actually have a defence force wide TDL.... South Africa being the only country in Africa with such a capability.

- 26 mk2 and over 150 mk1b Olifant wink how many Chinese tanks did Nigeria buy again? Less than a dozen grin grin

I guess armament refit doesn't matter.

It says "SAS Amatola arrived at Southern African Shipyards premises in Durban in March last year after the company received the contract for the complete refit of the vessel (excluding armament) – one of the largest projects tackled by a South African company for the South African Navy (SAN). Part of the programme involved the removal of the Amatola’s diesel engines in order for refurbishment."

You should also read this 2017 article, explains a lot about SAN

Fighter jets: two squadron of modern SAAB Gripens, BAE Hawks
Attack helicopters: 11 capable Rooivalks

Air Defence: South African made mobile Umkhonto short-range surface-to-air missile system.
169 Oerlikon GDF 35mm guns, along with 75 Superfledermaus fire control units (FCUs)
Skyshield air defence systems,
Thales Air Defence Starstreak very short-range air defence (VSHORAD) missile,
Support system: Indegenous Link ZA
ELINT: Oryx EW, C-47TP EW
Wartime experience: Since World War I.
Main battle tanks: Olifant (~150+ vastly upgraded centurions)

..., ....

Nigeria

Frigate: 1 (grossly outdated and irrelevant today)
Submarine: 0
Fighter jets: 3 JF-17, 9 F-7N (aerial dominance capability in contested airspace questionable)
Attack helicopters: around 10 Mi-24/35
Air defence: Shilka, Skyshield radar
Support systems: Falcon Eye and Regional maritime domain awareness
ELINT: 0
Main battle tanks: ~ 100+ T-72, VT-4, outdated Vickers mbts

Personally, the continuous comparing with South Africa is misplaced. Truth be told, only Nigerians compare themselves with South Africans here.

First if you look at the above indices, they, South Africans do not need the dixk swinging contest because they have more and superior systems.

Secondly, in experience, they have been warring under their own name since WWI. Their exploits in WWII, and Korea is still well celebrated till date.

Asides that, their naval have established their presence across the southern coast from Namibia to Mozambique a distance of 2000 nautical mile. SAN routinely patrol this distance to keep the area clear without making noise.

While the Gulf of Guinea is 1295.896 nautical miles.

When the Suez canal was blocked by the Evergreen, global shipping began moving their goods around the Cape of Good Hope. That is about $10 billion per day. And still the SAN kept these ships safe from pirate attacks. We never heard of any attack.

Bottom line is, capabilities and threat analysis differs. Nigeria's military acquisition is focused on counter-terrorism. While that of S.A is focused on peer-to-peer competition.

Yes, recently Nigeria has acquired new gadgets but I noticed that whenever new tech is bought, some people quickly come here to drag S.A.

Funny though, because I don't see Saffars doing the same. Even though they've been pummeled recently by budgets cuts, there's a reason they're still being placed above Nigeria in ranking. This is because 1) they have a world-class defense industry. 2) they have the experience. 3) they have the equipment.

Lastly, this disk swinging contest have driven the saffers from this forum, what else do you guys want.
