Face recognition?

That one is useless.

My roommate has been opening my phone anyhow until d day I caught him.

It ended up being face recognition.

After about 3 attempts, d phone unlocks.

He's fair, I'm dark

I have beards, he doesn't.

We are not related in anyway. He's just someone the University fixed in my hostel room back then.

Same case for my elder brother.

My junior bro unlocks my elder brothers phone in one attempt only as if d phone belongs to him.

Face unlock is not reliable.

As for the police, I seriously doubt if they can do anything about the situation. First they will reap you off by asking you to bring money for a entry and police report. Next they will ask you to bring 40k for tracking “a small phone” and 60K for tracking “ a big phone”. With no such money victims leave dejected.

One of the reasons why the country has no remedy. The politicians can afford to roger the police to swing into action, in fact they enjoy doing it so they easily bribe the police to do more harm. So even if you budget 100 billion the police will embezzle the money and still be extorting money from the public because they’re used to it

It's not ideal to carry three ATM cards and two phones plus other very sensitive items about in a hand bag! This is so wrong. We are having smarter and of course well-educated criminals these days that can hack anything hackable.
1. Do you really need to carry your several ATM cards about?
2. Consider splitting your sensitive items and keeping them in different places.
3. It is risky to keep your ATM card and bank account Sim card together.

Always password your SIM. It's very important.
For GTB users dial *737*51*74# from any phone to block any form of debit from your account in emergency situations.

Your sister did not have a SIM LOCK CODE. People are eager to protect the contents of their phones such as messages, videos, etc, but they don't protect their sim which is the most important.

Correct...A lot of ignorant people have throwing this around.

911 is the general code. Then you have to add your specific bank code.

Two days ago, Sunday 5th September, my sister, her 4 friends and 4 other customers were robbed at an eatery in Ogunlana Drive Surulere.

Time of the day 2pm!
Most people, just like her were coming from church and having a good time at the good time at an eatery.

The three criminals walked in, one at a time, hey hey, surrounded everybody and took all their phones. They went inside the inner room, took laptops and some money and left. They injured some people. My sister was unlucky, her bag was on top of the table, one just casually grabbed it and walked out. No gun shots.

They took all their phones. Then my sister's bag had, two phones, 3 ATM cards money, ID cards, driver's licence etc.

After the theives, for most of them, their first time encounters, they sat there, traumatised, crying, panicky, confused etc.

They called the police, it took till 5:30pm before the police arrived, the resturant replayed CCTV, they guys faces were seen, some other abrakadabra and told they were told to come back to station for statement the next day (Monday).

Monday morning first, she went to GTB and she was informed that the criminals took a loan of 500k from her account because it was her salary account.

Unbelieveable, right? YES!

MTN: She called the MTN customer care service to block her SIM and after explaning the incidence the responser said “Madam, I would like to help you block your line o, but I'm sorry, my supervisor is not on duty now” embarassed

There are many things to say o, many anyhowness in Nigeria but I'll wait and read from you guys first.

Thanks

Update:
Thank you all for your helpful comments.
Please how can one password their SIM?

You see that mtn own and Police own na that one I no dey understand.
You call MTN and tell them that you want to block your aim and they'll tell you that they cannot block and you should retrieve it when they know its weekend and you can't retrieve it then.
Another one you go to the Police station and say you want to report a case and they'll be telling you to pay money for entry

Hello All,
This is why you should not sign up for USSD banking no matter what your bank says.

I suggest your sister should immediately sue GTB bank for granting a loan in your name without adequate due diligence in less than 24hrs. That way they will be on the defence rather than attacking you to pay.

Let me be honest with you.
To follow up this case is as easy as it can get but it'll cost you money and time. If she wants to catch the thieves just be ready to spend like 100k and get to work. Local police is always crucial to this and then follow up the case with the DSS they'll pick them up like sitting ducks but be sure you'll not get back the money you spent.
Almost everything now has a digital footprint but it's made hard for everyone in our country in the guise of Security intelligence.

From the story @flyca, they didn’t access her phone with all those securities, it was her SIM they took out to accomplish the deal.
With SIM, they can have access to BVN, get account numbers, receive OTPs authorizing password or login changes and all what not.

I’m sorry this happened to your sister.
All SIMS should be passworded and no need carrying bunch of ATM cards around.

May God help us.

Facts:
The eatery did not have a guard on duty that day. The pharmary beside the eatery had a guard. From the CCTV replay, the first criminal signalled the pharmacy guard “calm down”, before they entered the resturant.

My sister did not write her PIN anywhere or on any things or revealed it to anyone. Her phone had a face-recognition lock, a finger print lock, a code lock. How they managed to access her phone is still a mystery

GTB salary loan hmmm, that one weak me sef. I don't understand but my cousin told her that it takes less than 5mins to be granted.

The theives cashed the monies at POS points in Orile, Apapa locations etc.

In fact, there are things that are still mystery to us.

Bro which financial institution will grant loan on a sunday, i doubt if these your story add up. naa 500k you just call like dat, loan from banks as never being easy
