Judging from your complaint, it is clear there are underlying issues with the car.

Let your mechanic check the water pump, remove the radiator and also take it for steam washing. It might be clogged by corrosion. Also the radiator fins could be bent or closed which wouldn't allow for good air flow.

Also check for leakages from the radiator and it's connections.

Let a rewire check your fan, it probably isn't blowing enough or it's blowing in the wrong direction.

Also check your temp sensor and thermostat if it's working.


After doing all this make sure to use a good coolant, not just any coolant. Many out there are just colouring. A good coolant would prevent rust, corrosion and engine overheating.

Don't be fooled by imported or colour. Google about the coolant you are buying.

A good radiator coolant would help you drive at least 2km before your gasket burns out.

I would recommend you use Hacops Radiator coolant or Total Radiator coolant.

Those are the best out there for our climate.

You need to check your water pump/thermostat and radiator as well as the fan(fan may not be working well)

First tell us the kind of car and year. I know about cars. I will help you. Your location too to give you the best mechanic. But put it in mind you might be needing another engine. Stop the waste for now. Nigerian mechanics are bad in destroying cars.

I had the same issue.

The solution however is changing the radiator to a Two-celled type. Trust me, no more overheating again.

You could also ask your mechanic to remove it’s thermostat (doubt it has any effect tho)

OP don’t take this advice, you are only addressing the symptoms not the cause. Reason you see engines start smoking in few years and require replacement due to performance drop.

Okay is it due to removal of thermostat? For a double cell radiator, there is no need for it except if the person decides to keep it. However, this is more useful in temperate region not tropical region. I am open to learn because since I bought a double cell radiator, change my water pump and get the radiator fans working properly which was working in the wrong direction before., I haven't experience overheating and my car steams like it's in temperate region.

Get a good mechanic to assess the actual cause of the overheating.
Check for pipe leakages, blocked Radiator cells, the water pump and the effectiveness of the radiator cooling fan(s)

From a personal experience, I had an overheating issue with my Car. I, initially changed my radiator, checked through leakages along the water hose/pipe but this did not work
Later, I removed the Thermostat and reconnected the Two Fans to start immediately the ignition in ON.
And, this eventually has worked perfectly well and no more overheating since July till date.

For the radiator fan, [s]tell the electrician you want the fans to be working as soon as you turn the ignition on[/s].

you will have to change ur Top gasket again. After removing your Radiator take it to Alabede for washing & flushing if it is ok they will let you know. Get a good Rewire to test your cooling fan if they are working well and blowing air towards the engine direction if it is ok he will tell u. Ask your, Mechanic, to check your water pump too

Pls don't make your fan permanent as adviced above. It could cause other problems.
If you are around akowonjo/Egbeda axis, I could give you a good Japanese car mechanic that will fix your car at minimal reasonable cost. Ie your burnt gasket.
As per overheating, if it concerns your radiator, forget it. Simple matter. "Murphy Agbede" will take out that radiator, open the cells and clean it up. That car will work like new.
My sis pajero after all the rubbish by lekki mechanics and overheating still continued, I told her to send the car over. Sharp sharp overheating from radiator was fixed. 2 years later, still no issues.

This was what my friend's father experienced that made him to drive his car to the side of a Junction one evening and left it there without going back for it.

He is currently living his life comfortably.

The second case was a man who his car had troubles him so much that one day as he was driving his fan-belt got broken.
Out of frustration he relaxed in the car seat holding the belt in his hand and slept off. He didn't wake up again, he died there

My brother, I really understand what you are passing through. It's as simple as getting a vehicle scanner to pinpoint all the problems with your vehicle. After which you can get an estimate on the cost of fixing it at a go rather than allowing mechanics do a random and uncertain job on the car.

IF you have experience with car you should know you can be a victim too. I bought mine and I did all verification you can think of. Everything was green, no issue. I did two VIN check, one with picture and the other without. Nothing was tampered with. I used Engine Scanner to check and nothing showed (Didn't know this could be blocked), a mechanic verified before payment was made.

But what you don't know is that the issues I have experienced is twice worst than what Mskrisx is currently experiencing.

I’ve owned a BMW 325XI for 5 years and a Honda Accord for 3 years I’ve never bypassed anything in my cooling system. I change my oil once a year( I use synthetic oil) and my cars are still delivering. Never had a breakdown other than that related to a weak battery. My cars have never slept in mechanic workshop for whatever reasons and I use them in Lagos traffic and travel interstate sometimes.

Car Engine Check Light or sensor could be blocked. Some car dealers already know you might be running this check on their vehicles, so they block it. Your scanner will show No issues found but it's a lie. This is what happened to me.

Always call or visit mechanics that scans your car first before repairs or visit car scanner guys, it will definitely help.

The way I work on my car is this, I invite a car scanner to scan my ride anytime I notice anything abnormal. Immediately the problem codes are pulled out, I collect all the codes, make research and watch YouTube videos on how to fix the problems.

Then I will invite a mechanic and direct him on what I want him to do. I'm always willing to pay the mechanics well but must follow my instructions while working because I have done my research very well.

I drive around with less stress and I scan my car like 2 times in a month. I tried getting a scanner to be scanning it myself but Jumia delivered rubbish scanner that takes forever to connect to my car. I will make out chance visit the market and get a good scanner for myself to reduce cost of inviting the car scanner.

Always know the cause of the problem before working on your car. Don't allow mechanics to suggest or guess.

Finally, collect and keep safe every part a mechanic removed from your car. Make sure you collect the coils he replaced and keep it safe.

You fixed a problem and didn't bother to check for what caused it. It could be as simple as a stuck thermostat. Even your mechanic na makpe. Sock head. Who knows where they sell inline thermostat.
