The solution to your problem is simple. A friend of mine had exact problem after one idiot Mech finished him. I gave him my Mech who discovered the thermostat was faulty. Thermostat was changed and that was the end. Yours might be something else tho. Which part of Lagos are you?

When you have a flat Tyre then you’ll have to uninstall tyres and drive your car on just rims since a flat tire can make bandits kidnap you.

Vehicles that use fan belts run on a principle called viscous, google it my BMW uses this principle, the fan speed varies with temperature.

An engine’s optimum temperature is between 85 to 105 degrees Celsius, naija ambient temperature is less than 40 degrees. From your understanding a 40 degree environment is heating up an engine designed to operate at over 85 degrees.

All this talk about naija being hot like it’s the hottest place in the world, Texas is hotter than Naija on average not to mention the Middle East.

If a thermostat gets stuck you change it, bypassing is not the solution you are only treating the symptoms and transferring problems to other parts of the engine. For starters your engine idle speed will go up, higher fuel consumption, engine runs below designed temperature, fuel won’t burn well causing carbon deposits, with time engine starts smoking. It’s like cooking with wet firewood.

As I was bringing it in, I didn’t know the car was overheating and it burnt my gasket. I fixed it in agony.
Now just today, after parking it for 9 days I called the mechanic who told me I had to change the 4 coils, plugs and do a fresh servicing. I did all this and even bought two new gallons of coolant. Dear people, do you know that after an hour of all this, I tried to test drive , just along the way I noticed the car was over heating then I Tried to look for a little safe place And park. I opened my engine bay and noticed that gasket is burnt again! All my money down the drain! The stress, the agony, the everything. I’m so so sad! Trying really to be strong. Please people, what can I do? Now the car won’t start and I had to pay a towing van to tow it. Sorry about my grammar. My heart is just too heavy. Thanks. Any opinion is welcome.

You were sold a really bad product. It is not a good idea to buy a car here in Nigeria. Unless you know the seller has a good history of selling good cars.

If you must buy a car in Nigeria, I would recommend going with a good mechanic (you know and trust very well) to check the car before you pay a dime!

Another thing is that you must avoid handing your car over to clueless mechanics, they can worsen a car's problem as they've already done to yours. Always stay put and monitor the repair of your car. A crooked mechanic can steal stuff from your car or purchase substandard parts if you aren't physically monitoring.

What you have to do now is either to meet a competent mechanic to fix it or you sell it.

Both my vehicles. One has no thermostat and and has its fan bypassed.
The other has thermostat and fan controlled by the radiator temperature sensor.
Guess what Both cars are running perfectly fine Ac chilling and zero worries. when a car has suffered burnt Gasket twice, you should know it impacts the engine. Especially aluminium engines.

Sorry if this comes off as being hash, a lot of us know next to nothing about cars, just wanna be behind the wheels and feel fly. A friend of mine would drive his car everyday without checking water or oil.... Until it begins to give sign he will now call a mechanic.

To help solve your problem, I'll tell you one thing and that's most mechanic in this country are just like the government of the country, would never do good for the masses and when they even try to do it, they do it half... So you have to find a trusted mechanic with good referrals who is also specialized in your car brand. Then be ready to spend. Your car will be good to go. What brand is the car ?

I have read through most the comments here, but nobody mentioned a particular issue that might still be the cause of the overheating. Am writing from experience. I bought this toyota sienna 2007 model (toks) that overheated to the extend that I changed the engine. Long and short story. The caused of the overheating was as a result of expired and blocked catalyst from the exhaust... Which nobody would everly think of... But that fixed my car overheating issue...

Get a double seal radiator...I happened to me twice a bought a toks car...thank me later... meanwhile u didn't even tell us the name of the car?...is that not craze?

I am sure it was a Ford, those cars are thrash compared to a Toyota .

Anyway, no on can e-diagnose any car without a scan code.

The problem with your car is easy, buy the fact that you said the head gasket got burnt in the first place means it will be difficult for you to understand what your gages mean in the first place.

Just take the car to a recommended mechanics and let them explain what the problem is first before they go on. The guy that fixed the head gasket in the first place should have test driven the car to know if he still has a heating issue

Most of these radiators are single cell and made for yankee weather. Our climate here is hotter and the first thing to do when a car comes in should be to change the radiator to double cell. Just to be on the safe side.

Transmission Failure

Contamination of the transmission is very common during radiator swaps , especially when the heat transfer line is not flushed , contamination gets into the transmission causing failure.

Gazzuzz can you please explain how this comes to be? My boss is experiencing something similar. Had radiator and oil cooler changed on a GL450, now car is experiencing transmission issues.
