Paramount Maritime keeps churning them out. Actually observed them from a friend's balcony the other night, moving this from the shipyard to the synchro-lift in the docks in Cape Town.

There are many big billion dollars offshore projects that need protecting. The market is there, and it's clear Paramount are making a killing.

I think Paramount would need to set up a production facility in Nigeria. I know they have a maintenance base in Onne, but with their clientele growing ever bigger, more investment would be needed.

I think I for see that happening soon.

Well, I usually don't celebrate Nigerian personnel at Air Shows.

We are the official kings of look and pass. grin grin

The Super Cobra deal doesn't seem legit to me either. I know credible agencies like Reuters carried the news, but I'm on the fence on that.

We also have the M346FA, if we are actually buying that, how can we afford to buy Attack helps almost immediately?

Not optimistic about any Mi-28 or cobra deal but concerning the M346FA, I doubt we just paid for it considering that delivery will start this year, and the rumors have been existing before the recent release of funds to the military. It is highly unlikely that we paid for the deal this year and delivery will also start within the same year.

Remember the M346 model was on the former CAS, Sadique's table way back and not something that was negotiated this year. Besides, there is the extra budgetary allocation and who knows, maybe a loan from Russia. Also, I think there is a sort of fund that is going to be set up for the Armed Forces. These deals will probably be spread over a few years.

For all we know, Nigeria might be one of the below countries grin

ROSOBORONEXPORT PRESS SERVICE PRESS RELEASES
ROSOBORONEXPORT SIGNS 20 CONTRACTS WORTH €2 BILLION WITH FOREIGN CUSTOMERS AT ARMY 2021
30.08.2021 Press release
Rosoboronexport JSC (part of the Rostec State Corporation) has held more than 70 negotiations with representatives of 35 countries during the Army 2021 International Military-Technical Forum.

"As a result of negotiations with foreign partners held at the Army 2021 Forum, Rosoboronexport has signed about 20 contract documents totaling over €2 billion," said Alexander Mikheev, Director General of Rosoboronexport.

According to the agreements concluded with foreign customers, Rosoboronexport will export Russian defense industry products for all services of the armed forces, as well as electronic warfare and air defense equipment in the coming years. Among them are the Su-30 type aircraft, Mi-35P, Mi-171SH and Mi-17V-5 helicopters, air weapons, Pantsir-S1 self-propelled anti-aircraft gun/missile (SPAAGM) system, Kornet-EM ATGM system, remotely controlled weapon stations, weapons for surface combatants and submarines, small arms and short-range weapons, various ammunition.

"The agreements reached by Rosoboronexport to supply foreign customers with the latest Pantsir-S1M SPAAGM system, Krasukha electronic warfare (EW) system and the Repellent-Patrol mobile counter-drone EW system are the first export contracts for these weapons," Alexander Mikheev added. “In addition, for the first time in the history of military-technical cooperation between Russia and foreign countries, we have agreed to integrate Russia’s Palma shipborne gun/missile CIWS into a ship’s foreign-made weapons system."

Live demonstrations of weapons, military and special equipment, organized by the Russian Ministry of Defense and Rosoboronexport for the company's foreign partners, became a highlight of the forum. The event involved Russian weapons and equipment for the ground forces and army aviation promoted by Rosoboronexport in external markets and was held at the Alabino Proving Ground

Just realised the story is behind a paywall. I'll just copy and paste it here:

"A proliferation of pirate attacks in the Gulf of Guinea, an expanse of the Atlantic Ocean stretching from Senegal to Angola, is driving a security-boat building boom in SA

Paramount Maritime Holdings, a unit of Africa’s biggest privately owned arms-maker, Paramount Group, says it has largely cornered the market for patrol and escort vessels used in the waters offshore Nigeria and neighbouring states. The company currently has 26 boats with a total price tag of about $60m (R856m) under construction in Cape Town.

“We pioneered the security patrol market in West Africa,” Stuart McVitty, CEO of Paramount Maritime, said. “We’ve seen steady growth over the last five to six years.”

Almost a third of the 68 piracy incidents reported in the first half of this year occurred in the Gulf of Guinea, and all 50 crew members who were taken hostage were abducted there, according to the International Maritime Bureau.
While a surge in piracy off the coast of Somalia a decade ago led several countries to deploy naval ships to combat the scourge, shippers and oil companies operating in the Gulf of Guinea have largely been left to fend for themselves. Most of them have resorted to chartering security vessels to escort their commercial ships into port or patrol their concessions.

Paramount has tapped that demand, with its most popular boat being its 35m Sentinel model. While the company has secured orders to supply about 26 more vessels over the next three years, it is facing increasing competition from suppliers in Singapore and Israel, according to McVitty.

Paramount’s boats aren’t equipped with high-calibre weapons so as to comply with SA’s arms exporting laws that regulate sales to private security companies, but some have water cannons mounted on their decks that can be used to extinguish fires or swamp the small craft typically used by pirates. Most of the vessels can accommodate eight crew members and eight security personnel.

“We give them separate accommodation as we have noticed that the crew and security personnel usually don’t like to mingle too much,” McVitty said.

Gas developments offshore of northern Mozambique could spawn a new market for security vessels. The nation is currently battling an Islamist insurgency in its Cabo Delgado province that has indefinitely halted the development of $20bn (R285bn) liquefied natural gas project by French energy giant TotalEnergies.

“We are projecting that a similar market will develop in those gas fields” to the one that exists offshore West Africa when activity resumes, McVitty said."

This unnecessary secrecy we are seeing with these new defence chiefs would eventually lead to corruption cases.

I don't know what we have that they keep hiding.

Let's see how procurement proceeds going forward.

I swear paying with resources could be one of the best options for us, as it would save our foreign currency, but you as yourself who pays for the extraction and semi refinement of these resources, and then you need to ask yourself, isn't it just better to have companies do their business and pay you, and then have foreign currency to buy stuffs, unless you want to give the country mining rights.

I'm sorry to say, but the respondents above, from @Giles14 down did not read to understand the post by @rka1.

@Rka1 did not say Nigeria is going to ask for a loan from Russia to purchase a Western aircraft.

He's saying Nigeria could possibly get a loan from Russia to purchase MI-28NE attack helicopters.

Also I have never seen where Nigeria took a loan to purchase military equipment, hasn't happened before, won't happen now.

Yes, my post was misunderstood. I was just speculating concerning a loan from Russia for Russian equipment but was really thinking along the lines of staggered payments or sovereign guarantees like for the JF-17 by the Pakistani Government.

Sovereign guarantees

In the context of current discussion,
Sovereign guarantee is issued by the seller in lieu of advance payments by the buyer, which can be cashed by the buyer on breach of agreement / failed delivery etc

I believe you should have mentioned line of credit instead

ECOWAS imposes travel bans and other sanctions on Guinea coup junta and their families. Noteworthy but not nearly enough. This is just short of a no-fly-zone and a naval blockade, at least for now. Coups are cancers.

Question ; what is Algeria using its Yaks for?

Even if the yak 130 have good capabilities as a light combat aircraft and can be used for exemple against terrorits and small threats (cost effective) , But due to the large algerian jets and attack helicopters, uav fleet ( sukhoi 30, sukhoi 24 , mig 29 , mi-28, mi-24 ,CH-4B, yabhon uav ect..) ,and the absence of terrorist camps on the territory that need air strikes, its only used for formation

The yak's 130 are deployed at the Mechria Air Base , used for the pilots Advanced training before moving to the sukhoi 30 and mig 29

Fighters Pilots start their basic training in Tafraoui air base / Oran on the zlin 142 , Aero L-39 Albatros , then move to the advanced training in mechria air base on these yak's -130 . And move after to the third final training on the sukhoi 30 or mig-29 .

There is reports that 30 more yak-130 will be delivred to algeria soon

Yes, I was thinking more of a deffered payment guarantee (sovereign Bank Guarantee) through a Russian bank (assuming this method can be used for arms payment).
