UAE puts six Nigerians with ties to Boko Haram on terrorist list
By Dennis Erezi
14 September 2021 | 11:06 am

Authorities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Monday named six Nigerians with ties to insurgent group Boko Haram as terrorist financiers.

The UAE Cabinet on Monday issued Resolution No 83 of 2021, designating a total of 38 individuals and 15 entities on its approved list of persons and organisations supporting Boko Haram and other terrorist cause.

Nigerians on the UAE’s terrorism list were Abdurrahaman Ado Musa, Salihu Yusuf Adamu, Bashir Ali Yusuf, Muhammed Ibrahim Isa, Ibrahim Ali Alhassan and Surajo Abubakar Muhammad.

The six persons have been previously tried and sentenced in UAE.

Other foreign nationals in the list are Ahmed Mohammed Abdulla Mohammed Alshaiba Alnuaimi (UAE), Mohamed Saqer Yousif Saqer Al Zaabi (UAE), Hamad Mohammed Rahmah Humaid Alshamsi (UAE), Saeed Naser Saeed Naser Alteneiji (UAE), Hassan Hussain Tabaja (Lebanon), Adham Hussain Tabaja (Lebanon), Mohammed Ahmed Musaed Saeed (Yemen), Hayder Habeeb Ali (Iraq), Basim Yousuf Hussein Alshaghanbi (Iraq), Sharif Ahmed Sharif Ba Alawi (Yemen).

Others are Manoj Sabharwal Om Prakash (India), Rashed Saleh Saleh Al Jarmouzi (Yemen), Naif Nasser Saleh Aljarmouzi (Yemen), Zubiullah Abdul Qahir Durani (Afghanistan), Suliman Saleh Salem Aboulan (Yemen), Adel Ahmed Salem Obaid Ali Badrah (Yemen), Ali Nasser Alaseeri (Saudi Arabia), Fadhl Saleh Salem Altayabi (Yemen), Ashur Omar Ashur Obaidoon (Yemen), Hazem Mohsen Farhan + Hazem Mohsen Al Farhan (Syria), Mehdi Azizollah Kiasati (Iran), Farshad Jafar Hakemzadeh (Iran), Seyyed Reza Mohmmad Ghasemi (Iran), Mohsen Hassan Kargarhodjat Abadi (Iran), Ibrahim Mahmood Ahmed Mohammed (Iran), Osama Housen Dughaem (Syria), Alaa Khanfurah – Alaa Abdulrazzaq Ali Khanfurah – Alaa Alkhanfurah (Syria), Fadi Said Kamar (Great Britain), Walid Kamel Awad (Saint Kitts and Nevis), Khaled Walid Awad (Saint Kitts and Nevis), Imad Khallak Kantakdzhi (Russia) and Mouhammad Ayman Tayseer Rashid Marayat (Jordan).

UAE news agency reported that the resolution underscored the country’s commitment to target and dismantle networks that finance terrorism and its related activities.

The resolution demands that regulatory authorities monitor and identify any individuals or entities affiliated with or associated with any financial, commercial or technical relationship and take the necessary measures according to the laws in force in the country in less than 24 hours.

Six Nigerians jailed for Boko Haram funding
In April 2019, the Abu Dhabi federal court of appeal sentenced both Surajo Abubakar Muhammad and Saliuh Yusuf Adamu to life imprisonment followed by deportation.

Ibrahim Ali Alhassan, AbdurRahman Ado Musa, Bashir Ali Yusuf and Muhammad Ibrahim Isa, were each sentenced to 10 years in prison, and also followed by deportation.

The court found them guilty of setting up a Boko Haram cell in the UAE to raise funds and material assistance for the insurgents in Nigeria.

In December 2019, a UAE federal supreme court also turned down an appeal by the six Nigerians, upholding the ruling of the appeal court.

The Nigerians were said to have transferred up to $800,000 in favour of Boko Haram between 2015 and 2016.

Is Nigeria willing to name Boko Haram sponsors?
Boko Haram insurgency has killed over around 40,000 people with two million displaced, according to an AFP report.

A former assistant director of the Department of State Services, Nigeria’s secret police, Dennis Amachree, asserted that the U.S. had been positively disposed to supporting Nigeria, especially in the fight against terrorism, noting that the question was whether the Federal Government would embrace the current gesture.

“Are we ready to arrest and prosecute these sponsors when exposed? Are we simply going to lock them away as has been done in the past? These are the concerns and the Americans may lose interest if we don’t take it seriously,” Amachree said in a report.

Amachree’s assertion aligned with the claim of former Nigerian Navy Commodore Kunle Olawunmi who said the government knows the sponsors of Boko Haram.

Olawunmi said he had interrogated and found a high-ranking member of Buhari’s government culpable of involvement with Boko Haram in 2007/2008.

The former Navy commodore stated that the Nigerian government was not ready to fight insurgency because it had failed to prosecute the arrested 400 persons suspected to be sponsors of Boko Haram.

CAS ON OPERATIONAL VISIT TO GUSAU, CAUTIONS TROOPS TO BE FOCUSED AND VIGILANT

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) component of Operation Hadarin Daji have been charged to remain focused and vigilant as they make concerted efforts towards ridding the entire North West of bandits and other criminal elements. The Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Oladayo Amao stated this today, 14 September 2021, while on operational tour of Air Component under Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD) in Zamfara State. According to the CAS, the current onslaught against bandits and their activities has continued to yield the expected outcome hence the need to remain focused disciplined and extra- vigilant until the security situation improves. According to the CAS, 'This is not the time for you to be complacent or assume that we have overcome the enemy. Rather times like this calls for utmost discipline, alertness and extra focus on the task ahead.' Air Marshal Amao went on to commend them for their gallantry, dedication to duty and resolve towards ensuring that the fight against banditry in the North west is brought to a conclusive end.

Earlier, the Joint Task Force Commander of OPHD who also doubles as the General Officer Commanding 8 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General UU Bassey, briefed the CAS on ongoing operations in Zamfara State and the entire North Western area. He informed the CAS that the operations have continued to yield the requisite results with bandits hideouts being destroyed and decimated. Maj Gen Bassey also thanked the CAS for ensuring that the Air Component as well as the NAF Special Forces are well trained and equipped for deployment to operational areas in the Region. According to Maj Gen Bassey, the renewed vigour exhibited by both Air and ground troops will no doubt be instrumental towards bringing the security situation in Zamfara State and environs to an end.

The CAS also took time to visit wounded airmen at the Federal Medical Centre and 207 Quick Response Group, Gusau where he assured them of NAF's commitment towards their medical attention and complete recovery.

It is important to note that the NAF Special Forces as well as its air element have continued to be key enablers and deciders in the fight against banditry in the North West. Indeed, in the last 2 months, several bandits have been neutralised through coordinated efforts between the air component, NAF Special Forces and other security elements in the theatre of operations. The joint operations, which is in its critical moments, has so far seen to the dislodging of key bandits' leaders and their followers as well as the destruction of their strongholds.

Sadly as with a lot of things in Nigeria. But there are underlying factors too to these things Nigeria being a multi-ethnic and multi-religious society making it a sensitive issue. However I think most agree even the president himself at least before he became president that BHT/ISWAP can no longer be dealt with an even hand but face the full wrath of the armed forces and the laws of the land especially if agitators elsewhere are seen to be treated with the full weight and force of the law. Now we all know some of those forces behind this carnage have found their way into his government in Abuja just like it was under Jonathan though I think then was mostly for corrupt and political reasons than pure ideological persuasions.

Another view to these issues is in the arts of intelligence, secret agencies devise false flags operations, compromise local and foreign assets caught up in counter-intelligence to nail the real masterminds which can be so hard to uncover because it might surprise you that these individuals may not be acting alone but actually sponsored by nation states, disgruntled politicians, domestic enemies, wealthy private and business interests any or all of the above working to see the demise of Nigeria or undermine the present administration or indeed any other ulterior motive to suit their agenda. Whichever getting to the bottom of these things is like a "camel passing through the eye of a needle" and it could take years as we've seen in other climes and protracted conflicts.

But in the end it is the signal the government in power is sending that matters in all of it and arresting and shaming some sponsors sooner than later might not be such a bad thing.

South African Air Force conducting air refueling, 2006.
Our Boeing 707s -which performed 3 roles: air refueling, Electronic Warfare and transport- were retired in July 2007 as SA joined the A400M programme.
From which we subsequently, and stupidly, withdrew, leaving us without air refueling and strategic air lift.

GASSPPP!? I'm shocked-NOT! He has ALWAYS been what he is: a psycho mass murdering Tutsi supremacist. I'm waiting to hear reports from his boys AO up north of the following:
- dozens of dead civvies
- bodies found tied up
-distinctive top-of-the-skull injuries consistent with ho or machete strikes
- sudden false flags attacks targeting ISIS zones
Funny thing is AFTER all this time people refuse to see the TRUTH about Kagame!

This doesn't mean anything in a Nigerian context.

We've never closed any significant deals of note in any of these air shows.

We only go there, look, come back home and have a different competition.

There is that, although we know they are buying Russian helo(s) after the Super Cobra debacle. Which one(s) is the question.

Well, I usually don't celebrate Nigerian personnel at Air Shows.

We are the official kings of look and pass. grin grin

The Super Cobra deal doesn't seem legit to me either. I know credible agencies like Reuters carried the news, but I'm on the fence on that.

We also have the M346FA, if we are actually buying that, how can we afford to buy Attack helps almost immediately?
