Yes...you shouldn't have placed yourself in a vulnerable position by ASKING her out. It gives women a sense of importance and she begins to see you in a new light. She will now see herself as the prize and since I'm sure she is immature (most uni girls are), she will misbehave and friendzone you.

My approach would have been in two ways:

I never ask any woman out. I just ask if she is single or not, then start acting normal and associating with other girls,not only her. We would grow close and before you say Jack! I'm her new bf. This approach is for uni girls who are immature. Toasting them or asking them out is not the best. Make them see you as the prize and never let them know you CAUGHT FEELINGS. At least that worked for me.

For the mature ones (few and scarce like hell), I won't play the rope-a-dope tactic described in the last paragraph. Mature girls would already show you if they want you or not. If she wants you, it gets easier. You don't need to toast or ask her out. Just continue as you were and before you say CHEESE! Everyone on campus knows she is your gf.
