1) should I go for a university degree ( with strike and possible extra years put into consideration) or a polytechnic for H.N.D?

2) is there a limit to the rank I can achieve for going through S.S.C ( because I've heard something like that) and how long would it take to rise to that rank if there's any?

I really need as much advice as possible,my future is at stake. Please help me..

That's good, I think Nairaland is not the best place for getting proper information concerning the Nigerian Military, you can join numerous Military groups especially in Facebook, it is always a brave and right decision to want to join the army of your country also note that the Military is a little skewed currently if you are especially from the East, don't expect much but still as far as Nigeria exist there shall be Easterners in the Nigerian Military and those Easterners who joins serve on double front.

I don't know you so I would not say any further but do check out some Facebook groups, also check out within your community you would find one or two people who have been in the service they could be helpful. Be strong patriot and be warned that Nigerian military can be somewhat depressing though I don't know your reason for joining but never be party to a coup or revolution, evolution is the bane of civilised societies.

pursue your degree to avoid stories that touch which might be said after you.

My advice would be, if you still have parents or lived ones around you and you want to always see them happy, please don't join the military now. No amount if cash inducement is worth your precious life. Please look the other way

better go and look for something else to do with your life than join the army that you will only regret or look for a way to join the army of the American Army...

But on a serious note you can do both.. I have this coursemate whos doing both, he already enters the army with ssce then later come to poly for his national diploma, the army takes care of his bills..
Last time we talk he was talking like he wants to japa..and thats another topic entirely.

He's not referring to secondary school certificate. He meant SHORT SERVICE COMMISSION

Question: Who should I know to make it possible?

Answer: Make sure you know at least a General or its Equivalent Well-to-do Person on/before you finish school. Or at least, pray for Divine Intervention.

Are you are aware that they don't pick more than 5-7 applicants in a state?

1) get a university degree, a polytechnic degree doesn't have value compared to a university degree

2) yes there is a limit to the rank, the max rank for navy is commodore so it should be the equivalent in army, but don't worry, after that it's only 3 more ranks

How long? A rank takes 4 years to complete, and you will serve a max of 6 ranks so you'll serve 24 years max in the army

The selection board comprise up of officers from different regions of d country

My advice is that, if you had ever criticise ,laugh or rejoice over a military killed soldiers by d bad people and now because of joblessness, u want to go and join the military.

Then u shall die the way dos military u once mock or rejoice over their dead body died.

go and study IT , do not join Nigerian army, they want to kill all of you.
Nigeria army is not there to defend Nigeria, they are working for the colonial masters who regard us as enemy.
That is why Nigeria is upside down, cause all the institutions of Nigeria are working for enemies of Nigerian people.

Just read that your computer science well and then find remote US job.

Joining the army via SSC is a big waste of time. Worse if you are from the south. No one within the army looks at SSC with respect

by SSC he meant short service commission and not secondary school certificate. He would still be a commissioned officer but wouldn't get to d rank of a general
