Woah.
It seems I'm living up to my name , "OlodoGraduate".
So, I dropped an application in a school about 2 weeks ago. I got called yesterday to come for interview. I was given a written test. I believe I did good in the test. Then, I was asked to come for a microteaching today.

I was given the topics to prepare for - in Mathematics; bearing and in Physics; Electricity.

I got home and didn't work towards crosschecking my mastery of these topics as I made my self believe that I would get no glitches in teaching these topics and I also got this crazy headache. I just took drugs and slept all along.

Today came, I quickly came up with a lesson note and proceeded to the school....

Since the school is on holiday, the SSS 2 and SSS 3 were together for lessons. I was asked to teach Bearings first. I began quite good and after a while, I was given a question to solve with the students.

It was a past WAEC question on calculation in Bearings. I was able to make out the diagram, but then I knew outrightly that something was wrong..

I knew what was wrong but I was unable to rectify it. I was just there in the front, blanking out of options....
Thankfully, I was put through by my supervisors {in fact, I really appreciate them} in a polite way and one of them even asked to students to applaud me.

I managed to appeal to the students and explained that "such happens at times".

The supervisor also tried to buttress my point by sighting an example of a case where examiners with over 30 years of experience couldn't solve a certain question — probably not to let me feel hopeless. I wanted to hold on to that as a panacea, but then I snapped out of it "shame on me".
Shame on u bro grin

With the Physics too, I did quite well, but can you imagine: stupid me forgetting what a potentiometer is used for and I was even confusing the total emf of cells in a series with the total the emf of cells in parallel!

I could only think of the reasons for my lapses to myself but not tell to my supervisors to justify myself. At least, I was informed of the topics to prepare for..
Or is it anybody's fault that the last time I opened a Physics textbook or manual was sometimes last year or that I was unable to prepare for the tests.. lol

Well, they were really understanding (they did not condemn my mistakes) and still considered me for employment...
In summary, even if you're confident about something, there's no harm in double checking. No one is perfect!!...

Have you ever been in such a tight situation?
I don't, even if I teach the same topic every year. I'm always looking for a new way, methods, teaching aids, better examples I can use to drive home my points.

I once forgot what a paragraph is, in one of micro-teaching interview I attended. I told my supervisor that "a paragraph is a gap precursors to main ideas"
She was like, what now is indentation since a paragraph is a gap................? An English graduate for that matter!!! Lol!

School me on both
In a layman's term.

Nigeria universities are a total waste of time. The will give the department a heavy name but no equipment inside. The lectures are so dumb that they use one material to teach till they retire. It's better to learn trade in aba than depend on certificate.
What kind of a trade are you talking about that one has to learn through the use of double barrel gun in ya hand?

In a layman's term.

Indentation is a blank space (gap) before a paragraph.

Paragraph is a written composition or probably a group of words discussing a single point.

Exactly, I felt so stupid

Because some of my students were actually there and some of them knew I was not correct, they were just looking at me with wide eyes

I went to apologise to them too, they laughed it off and were like, what was I thinking

They said when I left, that the vice principal told them not to dwell on it, that I will soon realise my mistake lol

That your principal is a good person.

GOT 80% on test and I was to take math n phy. I choose simultaneous eqn and motion on phy. No preparation prior to ds but I was told to choose a topic I can conveniently teach.
Fast forward, physics done n dusted. .forget one of d formula.
in Maths , after my explanation. Forming example 4 simultaneous eqn was getting difficult so I asked the students to get one for me dats wen all of dem echo to each other dat there's one de r having difficulties to solve, we shd solve it.(looks like one of der recent assignment ) After I break everything finished, and it was abt gvin me headache, I stop carrying dem along and reach an answer though incorrect, told dem I will com and finish it the next day.
Confidently leave the class while they all clap for me.
I never felt humiliated or shame. I pull the confident tru nd d principal says it's okay , he now corrected me on some aspect n gve me d job but I left bcs d money too small

Circle Geometry is tough but more easier for those who studied Further Mathematics.

I perfected Bearings & Distances, Latitude & Longitude whilst I was serving upon all my "Chike Obi" in Mathematics. cheesy

They were wrong to have solve a question didn't work on before entering the hall. Your supervisor is a bad person. Then back to your own part, you guffed woefully, how could you be going for an interview and you didn't solve two or three questions on the topic?
