Types of Genotype
The genotypes in humans are AA, AS, AC, SS. They refer to the hemoglobin gene constituents on the red blood cells. AC is rare whereas AS and AC are abnormal.
Genotype Compatibility Chart
Study this table below carefully:
AA + AA = AA, AA, AA, AA (Excellent)
AA + AS = AA, AS, AA, AS, (Good)
AA + SS = AS, AS, AS, AS, (Fair)
AA + AC = AA, AA, AA, AC. (Good)
AS + AS = AA, AS, AS, SS, (Very Bad)
AS + SS = AS, SS, SS, SS, (Very Bad)
AS + AC = AA, AC, AS,SS. (Bad; Advice needed)
SS + SS = SS, SS, SS, SS, (Very Bad)
AC + SS = AS, AS, SS, SS, (Very Bad)

Compatible genotypes for marriage are:
AA marries an AA. That’s the best compatible. That way you save your future children the worry about genotype compatibility.
AA marries an AS. You’ll end up with kids with AA and AS which is good. But sometimes if you’re not lucky all the kids will be AS which limits their choice of partner.
AS and AS should not marry, there is every chance of having a child with SS.
AS and SS shouldn’t think of marrying.
And definitely, SS and SS must not marry since there’s absolutely no chance of escaping having a child with the sickle cell disease.
Solution
The only thing that can change the genotype is the bone marrow transplant (BMT). It has been proven to be the only promising permanent cure to SS, SC, and CC; however, it is new, very expensive and cannot be done in any part of Africa. It also carries some risks.

Oh I didn't know u talking about PGD, I don't know much about that. However, I know someone who did the procedure in Lagos. She's an Hb SS who married an hb AS husband, and conceived via IVF and PGD was done to prevent HBSS fetus. I know she did it in Lagos and it cost her 5 million naira. This was last year. She put to bed few months ago.

Please don't scare him. PGD is cheaper than IVF. Inflation asides it shouldn't be up to 500k by now.

You and your girlfriend should not be wicked souls and bring a child into world to be an SS patient and suffer miserably in this world... If you believe in God, God will never forgive you guys if you should bring a child into this world to suffer despite two of you being fully aware of your situation.

My bad, I just realized the 5 million naira was the figure the managing team was assuming she did the whole procedure, patient didn't mention 5million naira.

Alright, these clinics Nigeria are engaged in IVF, which is rampant in Nigeria. Now we are talking about Pre- Implantation Genetic Diagnoses PGD. Simply means detecting genetic diseases in sperm and egg before fertilization. 4 years ago I called and contacted over 8 fertility clinic that told me they can't . In fact one doctor who just opened a hospital and has practised in London for years told me PGD is not yet available in Nigeria and that what's available is amniocentesis. Even that one they collect the Amniotic fluid in Nigeria and send to south Africa for testing.

You guys are sounding so sure that I wanted to find out if PGD is finally in that country.

Yes it is possible to know a child's genotype in the womb but why I really don't like this is because of the abortion that follows if the child is SS.

My girlfriend/fiancee just showed me the blood genotype result. I am actually AS and I insisted she do her own too which later revealed she is AS too. We so much love each other but I think that will be the end. Or guys, please let me know if there is any solution
