My believe is that one can not be too careful...you can't be smarter than danger. The thing is that God forbid any danger on our way.... Request for Uber, on your way to the requested destination, change your location so as not be able to predict your movement. Finally, commit your way into the hands of God..you will be fine at the end
True!

Did u say friend?
There is an igbo saying that goes thus... Obuo onye ma mmadu ne gbu mmadu. It means its someone who knows someone that kills that person. If your gut says you should come in incognito, better follow it. Nigeria is horrible now, in fact, Stay away if you can.
The world is complicated. Everywhere is not safe, it's not a Nigeria thing, just be careful

Hi guys, I need experiences from people flying into Nigeria(MMIA) Lagos.
My family is not going to be able to meet me at the airport this time and I am weighing up my options with transit.

I have a friend who said he knows someone that does transportation that he can come pick me up and take me to an hotel, however I am a little skeptical with that option with the high rates of insecurity in the country.

My opinion is that sometimes being annonymous to your service provider is better, but I am a little concerned with the security level of Uber in Lagos.

Are uber drivers known to kidnap their clients particularly people boarding them at MMIA ?

Can uber hold their drivers responsible if something untoward were to happen to their clients, or if they are known to connive with kidnappers etc ?

I just need experienced info and also from uber drivers to make a better decision.

THanks all.

Both Uber and bolt are safe in Lagos. However it's good to exercise cautions just as I would even in the if I'm in the UK or the US.

Here's what I would advice you to do: Once you initiate the order, screenshot the driver details along with your itenerary and send it to a close relations. Atleast your whereabouts can be narrowed down if for any reasons.

Booking Uber is 70/80% safe bt booking Uber coming from the airport with luggage needs another level of thinking and security checks.

Even for airport cabs u need to be careful.

While anonymity is good u can’t tell me u can’t get hold of Sm1 u trust in the city to pick u up or meet u up? Well if not u can take a certified airport taxi. I think they are registered and safer bt they shouldn’t know ur final destination.

If you are concerned we can appoint a very experienced security personnel to escort you from the airport to their destination within lagos.

Our vehicle pick up service is mostly booked ahead of time.

As a private security operator in lagos we do this a lot for our none african clients.

If you're not a politician or a celebrity, just calm down and stop being paranoid. Nobody knows you. VIPs use Uber in Nigeria and nobody reason them. But in case you're still scared, just take an Uber to a hotel not too far from the airport. Sit at the bar or reception and book another one to another hotel in another location. You're good to go. Make sure you don't speak Queen's English.

The Queen's English got me laughing but that the truth. It's the first mistake that most travellers do.

In Addition, he should not flash/show off unnecessary. It's also always good to request the windows to be wound down. That's the first thing I always do when taking Uber/bolt.

This is what I do as someone that is always security conscious with some security experience , once I land I take a ride from the airport, you can use any other app,if I am going to a hotel in ikeja, I would tell the ride that picked me from the airport to drop me at a bus stop where I can get another ride and from there I would take that ride to my destination and that way you can stay safe and some times I take up to 3 rides, remember na you know the valuables way you carry, after working hard under the sun/rain in Brazil , I don't want to get FUped in my own country

But isn't this taking more chances?... jumping from one ride to the other? What if ride 3 kidnap you in a black VW while you were seen leaving the airport in a white Camry? But I understand why you would make sudden switches... to mess up any plans that may be in the works. Just curious... did you learn this move in Brazil? I saw this MO in a coke run.

@ OP.... many good advice.... one thing... do not give precise information about your travel plans.... when you're arriving ...what airline... and when leaving... if giving a date ... at least a week after your scheduled departure. In the jungle full of predators you need to move like snake.

A while ago the Airport made it difficult for Uber to ply their trade around there. Hopefully that has changed now. It definitely would have been a better option, but still if it's Naija, then a lot of prayers must be made prior

I feel your concern with the security lapse Nigeria has degenerated into. Lagos is still more safer than any other states in Nigeria presently and again Uber is very safe even though you still need to be safety conscious.

E-hailing rides are atleast 80% safer than the usual cabs that doesn't have identity or profile and you can take care of the rest 20% safety protocol yourself by been very careful. Good luck to You and stay safe while being in Nigeria.

I see. But what if one can't speak like a Nigerian?

Security aside, I learned the hard way that foreign accents aren't generally welcome in Nigeria.

Maybe it's cause of the the homogeneous nature of the country. In many other cities like London, Toronto, New York, Dubai, etc., people speak with different accents, and no one really cares. In Nigeria, you've got to speak like everyone else or you'd be treated differently. That's frustrating cause you'd end up speaking in an awkward way just to hide your accent.

The country is not bad. Moreover, thousands of ppl enters via same airport on daily basis and they gets to their destination safety...This is unnecessary to me.

If your family can't pick you up, you also don't have a friend that can assist?

I wouldn't blame you though for being so sceptical but mind you, fear kills one who is afraid to move first before it actually happens.
Push back that negative assertion about your country. Things are not as bad as you are made to believe by the media who blow things out of proportion.

You already answered the question, but if you read carefully said I know about security, these stuffs are online these days, I didn't learn it in Brazil because I have no need for it here because Brazil is safe, I only do it in Nigeria. Anytime I land the airport in Brazil I take (99)local version of uber , first time landed in Brazil I used the airport taxi and it was comfortable and safe infact the driver helped me with my luggage to the reception.if you were white I would say you are racist, lol, the USA is the highest consumer of drugs in the whole world, so trying to join (coke run) and Brazil in the same sentence sounds somehow to me, it is a simple security strategy.

The last time a friend tried using ride sharing app Uber to be precise ..

The airport taxi guys lynched the driver ..

Those guys don't have joy and I still wonder how they know ..

He paid 80000 to get his vehicle released ..

Don't know if they still pick people but I know they drop off passengers at the airport ..

Take an airport taxi to any of the hotels in ajao estate or ikeja ..
Change base from there ..

Normally the wise uber/bolt guys drives to the park and wait there for their clients...that way it looks like a friend/family came to pick you up.

You need to be very smart in life, and trust nobody, dont allow your friend to send anybody to come and pick you, trust nobody, use an anonymous taxi, like uber, and before that go to google and search for hotels in ikeja close to MMIA and when you get to Nigeria book an uber ride to take you to any of the hotels in ikeja, and when you get to your hotel room rest a little while before you book another uber to take you to your final destination, on your way to your final destination, dont tell the second uber man that you just flew in to the country, tell in you live in lagos and you are going to your village, dont allow the first uber guy that pick you from the airport to take you to your final destination because of some security reason cheers

Uber is safe, DO NOT engage in unnecessary chitchats with drivers, remember they’re total strangers. You could avert a major disaster by keeping your mouth shut, let the driver take you to your destination, then you pay up.

Simple
