PROUDIGBO:

This reminds me....they’re yet to pick a name for the airport!

The Governor shouldn’t be tempted to name it after himself...that appears too conceited. Either choose a outstanding son of the state like Prof Chinua Achebe, or leave it for the next incoming Governor, who could even name it after him if he so wishes!
I prefer Dora Akunyili Airport. To tell the world good people of anambra loved her and her husband. I wish.

ANAMBRA AIRPORT: OBIANO'S LEGACY SET TO LAUNCH SOLUDO'S GREATER ANAMBRA

The Anambra International cargo and passenger airport is a Category ( CAT ) 4F airport. This means that an A380 aircraft or an Airbus can land comfortably in the airport.

As it gears towards full flight operations, here are 10 remarkable facts about the Anambra Airport as detailed by the Commissioner for Works, Anambra State, Engr, Marcel Ifejiofor.

1. THE RUNWAY: The runway is the second longest runway in Nigeria with:
- Length - 3.7km and a racer of 1km at both ends of the runway. Added together, the total length of the runway becomes 5.7km making it the second longest runway in the world.
- Width - 60 m
- Strip - 440 metres on either side of the runway

2. RUNWAY LIGHTING: The runway is equipped with CAT 2 lighting system. This implies that a plane can be guided by the light to land safely even in adverse weather conditions.

3. SATELLITE LANDING SYSTEM: The airport is equipped with a satellite landing system (SLS). This provides for satellite assisted landing of aircrafts should the runway lights fail for any reason.

4 TAXI WAY: The airport has two taxi ways.

5. THE APRON:  The airport apron measures 300 metres by 200 metres.
- It can accommodate 8 Boeing 747 aircrafts the same time.
- It is built on a rigid pavement of concrete with a thickness measuring 560mm and reinforced top and bottom with concrete measuring 16mm in thickness.
- The Apron is built to repell water. So even when it rains, water runs off the surface easily.

6. THE CONTROL TOWER: At a height of 34.5 metres, the control tower of the airport is the tallest in Nigeria.
- It is built with concrete top to bottom
- It is the height of an 11 storey building.
- The control tower has nine suspended  floors.
- It is equipped with a lift and a staircase.
- Both the lift and staircase are fireproof.
- It is also equipped with biometric security doors.
- Every room in the control tower and indeed the entire airport is equipped with a water sprinkler.
- However, the control tower has a self fire fighting system that triggers off when there's a fire emergency.

7. THE TERMINAL BUILDING: The terminal building is designed to accommodate 400 passengers. Other features include:
- A departure and arrival lounge
- There are are 36 shops in the building
- There are three lifts and three escalators
- Two Avio bridges each equipped with dual boarding passages. This means that four aircrafts can take passengers at the same time.

8. RESCUE AND FIRE FIGHTING SERVICES: The airport is CAT 9 airport
- It has three fire tenders (fire engines) that can shoot water up to the height of the control tower.
- The tenders can be controlled by the driver alone.
- The airport is also equipped with 20 water hydrants.

9. WATER: The airport is equipped with two industrial boreholes which pumps water into:
- Tank 1 - 640 cubic metres
- Tank 2 -  240 cubic metres
- There's also a water treatment plant that takes water to overhead tanks.
-The total volume of overhead tanks is 123 cubic metres.

10. POWER:  A 33 KVA line drawn from Agụ Awka to the airport guarantees an 18 hour power supply.
- Two units of 500KVA generators serves as backup to provide  power always.

NOTE: The airport was built in a record time of 15 months.

- It was built by Nine contractors and nine service providers

- It was built by the Willie Obiano led Anambra State Government without borrowing a dime.

- Also no single contractor is owed a kobo.

- The first plane landed in the airport on April 30, 2021. A plane from the AIRPEACE fleet belonging to Chief Allen Onyema, a worthy son of Anambra State.

- The airport is expected to create about 1000 direct and indirect jobs.

- The Anambra International Cargo and Passenger airport is a strong legacy of the *Willie Obiano* administration which will be managed effectively for the good of ndị Anambra by the *Soludo-Ibezim* mandate.

Most Nigerians have no concept of the significance of an A380 specification runway. Thus, most people don't understand the significance that an African runway meets the specification.

That is an A380 aircraft being able to land in such a runway of adequate length of at least 3.5KM, breadth of 60M, clearance of at least 140 meters on both sides of the runway, and a runway approach ILS Cat 2 RESA of at least 1KM. However, if you see an A380, then you suddenly realize that the regular Boeing 737 or even the massive Boeing 777 are actually toys when they stand next to it. Similar to how a VW beetle car would look parked next to an 18 wheel trailer truck. Thus, that is why few international airports meet the A380 runway & ILS CAT II systems specification.

Hopefully, more African airports will aspire to meet this runway specification so that more A380s will have confidence flying over Africa. Knowing there are many runways where it could land in emergencies. It helps to decrease airfares between Africa and rest of the world. Thus boosting the ease of doing business in Africa.

The next administration should endeavor to build a taxiway parallel to the runway (i.e. terminates at both ends of the runway) as the airport becomes busier. So that airplanes will use the runway only for takeoff and landing and not taxing on it after landing.

What is worth doing at all is worth doing well. After all said and done, kudos must be given to Gov. Obiano for not cutting corners as is typical with African airports that are only "International" in name. Yet have no facilities at all to conduct international operations safely. Gov. Obiano's determination to provide all the necessary facilities for smooth and safe international operations by day or night at this airport is a big boost to world-class aviation development in Nigeria and West Africa.

Hmmm

The truth is finally glaring. The conclusion that the real enemies of our dear state,Anambra is not the yorubas nor d Hausas but most of d pple we call brothers...Our own brothers from other South East states, both home and abroad. Some of These guys hate to see anything good come out of Anambra state. Why are most igbos like this fgs?

Why are our so called brothers bent on causing commotion in our state? Why do they want blood shed and chaos to take over Anambra? Why are most of them masking under Ipob to scream ‘no election’ online and offline? What is their pain about the progress of Anambra? 90% of their indigenes are all camped in Anambra because of its economic viability but still inhibit bad belle against our dear state. Their state governors are lazying around with poor development and they can’t call them out...rather all their hearts and minds are centred on Anambra.
They just want to see Anambra destroyed politically and economically. I won’t even fail to include few of our Anambra sons and daughters who have also been blinded by these our so called brothers and are used to cause trouble in our states.

Pls Anambra sons and daughters let’s rise up,unite with one voice and fight these enemies. If things go south in our state....we are the ones to sufffer it greatly. The suffering is already evident...,,a road trip that usually takes 5mins now takes 30mins because of road blocks mounted here and there. Even if it doesn’t affect u, it affects others, our brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, relations etc
Let’s be wise because when the going gets tough, these our so called brothers fanning the embers of disunity will leave for their peaceful states and abandon y’all to ur fate. Anambra teta nu

This is most useless write-up on nairaland. The same Anambra whose indigenes constitute over 80% of all Igbo criminals. undecided
The most annoying thing in this write-up is how you are trying to create the impression that the Igbo people from other eastern states are responsible for the nonsense gun running going on in Anambra. What makes you think the killings are not carried out largely by Anambra natives? From all clear indications, Anambra has the largest population of Igbo people alive and in fact, in every 100 Igbo people you find across the world, including here in Nigeria, Anambra people will make up about 50 to 60 of them while the other 4 eastern states and most times, the Igbo speaking people from Delta make up the remaining 40%. This goes out to say that no matter how you try to delude yourself that outsiders are too much in Anambra, the natives of Anambra far outnumber the outsiders within Anambra State and will definitely make up most of the criminal elements in the state.
There is nothing on earth, and I mean no single evidence that can convince a sane mind that most of the criminal activities going on in Anambra are perpetuated by outsiders because it is a clear fact that Anambra natives, amongst all Igbos, are the most dubious and criminally minded people in the east. Over 80% of drug and human trafficking cases linked to Ndigbo have something to do Anambra State. There was even a news post last year that stated that 90% of the Nigerians to be hanged for drug related crimes in Asia are natives of Anambra.
What of the crime cases in Nigeria? From the time of Derico Nwa mama, to the ritual cases of Eddy Nworgu and Okija, and even down to Evans the notorious kidnapper? All these crimes were carried out by Anambra natives. What of Invictus Obi?
Look, I love Anambra people and that is why I am pained that you have made me write what I'm not supposed to write today. Please delete that thought of yours that "outsiders" are responsible for the nonsense going on in Anambra. If these outsiders from our brother states were that bad then other states in the east would have been recording more heinous crimes than what we are currently witnessing in Anambra.
Here in Lagos, when a criminal is caught, they prosecute the criminal without involving his state of origin or ethnicity. Even when the Yoruba people tried to blame IPOB and Ndigbo for the destruction that befell their land during the end sars protest, we all condemned them and told them to face their useless youths who have turned thuggery into a full time job and now seeing you write this unbelievable trash about our brothers from other Igbo States is clear hypocrisy.

ANSMEDIA:

*ANAMBRA IS APGA.*

This is a pile of rubbish. More than 50% of crimes and disturbances in Anambra are committed by you outsiders from other states. Recent security Intel's shows that and they are being pushed back to their states.

Anambra people are the most hard working group in igbo land. When you talk of education, industry, commerce, sports, entertainment, etc, it is Anambra that leads by a a wide margin.

Anambra people hardly go to any other state in the region ro cause trouble, rather they are builders of such societies.

Otokoto ritualists that pioneered ritual killings in Nigeria started in Imo state, kidnapping started in Abia, and so on.

It is very safe to say that Anambra people are not behind the recent issues in Anambra because average Anambra indigene is very engaged with whatever he is doing to create and expand his/her wealth.

There's no igbo without Anambra, because all the people that matters in igbo land are one way or another has Anambra origin.

Anambra people are like the whites of igbo land, because they were the first to see civilisation, education, wealth, exposure, etc. Anambra people were the first in igbo land to gain western education both here in Nigeria and outside Nigeria(Zik, Ojukwu, etc.)

Yes, there maybe some bad eggs just like every other society or state out there, but the positives far outweighs the negatives. That's why almost every achievement ever recorded by igbos are usually by Anambra people.

Anambra has the most prosperous state in igbo land, so it is expected that other igbos would be migrating to the state, just like yorubas are migrating to Lagos and Niger Deltans migrating to Rivers state. In all those states(Rivers and Lagos), the possibility that most of the crimes are committed by non indigenes is positive. The same thing applies to Anambra in the eastern scenario.

Even among IPOB we know that other southeast states other than Anambra has most of the foot soldiers in that organisation. The recent breakthrough by the military proved it when most of the people caught or either killed were linked to either Abia or Imo, etc.

Anambra people are the finest of the igbo stock because they are the only reason igbos are tagged the excelling group in Nigeria, Africa and the world in general, from academia to sports to entertainment to entrepreneur to industry captains, etc. Anambra is truly the light of the entire black race. So no amount of envy and bitterness of yours can change anything.

Unbiased1:

his is most useless write-up on nairaland. The same Anambra whose indigenes constitute over 80% of all Igbo criminals. undecidedhe most annoying thing in this write-up is how you are trying to create the impression that the Igbo people from other eastern states are responsible for the nonsense gun running going on in Anambra.

Don't mind that clown, he is not from Delta, he has several monikers, so he uses the 'unbiased' moniker to claim Delta all over the forum. Delta people don't have time to beef Anambra, because Delta is even more related to Anambra than most igbo states. Delta and Anambra intermarry more than any igbo state. Culturally Delta and Anambra has alot in common particularly Onitsha and Asaba.
