Anambra Wins Big In President’s Excellence Awards

By Ekwi Ajide (ABS Abuja Bureau Chief)

Anambra State's Mrs. Bridget Nnabeze of Modebe Memorial Secondary School, Onitsha has emerged overall best teacher in public secondary schools in Nigeria.

Mrs. Chiamaka of Our Lady's High School, Onitsha won the second best school administrator, while Akpakogwe Central School Ogidi came fourth in Public Primary Schools category.

Anambra State also won the fifth best teacher in the primary schools category.

Speaking at the event, President Muhammadu Buhari, who was represented by the Minister of State, Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, saluted Nigerian teachers and education officers who kept faith with the profession over the years despite the obvious challenges.

The President noted that the World Teachers' Day, WTD, celebration is meant to create awareness on the status of teachers in the society as enunciated by the United Nations
Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and
International Labour Organization in 1994.

It seems d road block has returned in some major towns. I got a call that there’s presence of security forces around Agulu, and some other towns like Enugu ukwu-Abagana take off point which caused a serious hold up today. Security personnel doing stop and search exercise.

I hope peace is restored and not more bloodshed

How I wish most of these unemployed youths will avail themselves of this opportunity to get trained in these fish farms in the 3 senatorial zones. Then they can set up their own smoked fish production facility later.

There is so much money to be made in fish farming and production instead of some unproductive jobs like "oso-afia" or even "agbero" work. Hopefully, these facilities can train enough youths to set up their own productive fish farms and make a lucrative livelihood via fresh fish production and smoked fish production.

Some can go into fish breeding (Fingerlin) production. Buying mature male and female fish and using them to produce fish offsprings that are then resold at massive profits to the big fish farms.

Even more, people can begin to produce fish feeds locally and sell them to the fish farmers. This has the potential for creating a lot of good-paying jobs for the youths.

Welcome development. A child that says the parents will not sleep, should not near the bed. Since we have a lot of sympathizers for the nonsense that has been happening, let us all suffer the consequences.

why does your state attract miscreants? there is something wrong with that state that makes it attractive to misvreants. Even if you kill off all miscreants another batch will arrive the next day, fix your state to attract upper class

Basil the timid nwa Nsukka, I don't know when your envy and bitterness will stop. Anambra has more upper class by far more than your backward Enugu state that's filled with low class, poor people, illiterates and miscreants.

Anambra is by far more developed than your Enugu state, but your envy for Anambra will never allow you know peace.

Poverty rate in Anambra is 14% while in your useless worthless backward Enugu state it is 75%. Where do you think that has more upper class?

Go and tell your incompetent fat farting Ugwuanyi to fix your state so that you Nsukka miscreants will stop trooping to Anambra for greener pasture.

Go and check why Lagos, Rivers, Anambra, Delta and Kano attracts more people seeking for better life.

Obiano is already doing the needful. Banning okada in Awka and Onitsha chased away all those people by at least 45%. More measures are being implemented discreetly.

UNIZIK gets N1bn grant from BUA group for ultra-modern student centre

The Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka (UNIZIK), has received a grant of one billion naira (N1bn) from a non-profit organisation, Abdul Samad Rabiu, ASRAfrica Initiative for the construction of an international students centre.

Tribune Online learnt that the contract came from Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative, ASR Africa, the founder of BUA Group and cement manufacturing company, Abdul Samad Rabiu.

Receiving the grant, the Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Professor Charles Okechukwu Esimone, who expressed gratitude to the donors of the grant, said the mega Students Centre in the institution, when completed, would be the first and best of its kind in Nigeria in particular and Africa at large.

The vice-chancellor who made the statement at the Council Chambers of the institution on Friday said the students centre would house the Students Affairs Unit, International Students Centre, Centre for Council and Career Development, Acting Theatre, the Student Union Government (SUG) secretariat including their respective arms, among other features in the varsity.

Prof Esimone emphasised that the institution was blessed having been found worthy to receive the award grant for the construction of the wonderful edifice, noting that it would be highly useful to the students of the institution after completion.

Speaking at the event, the Founder of ASRAfrica Initiative, Alhaji Abdul Sama Rabiu, represented by a former Minister of Health, Dr. Aliyu Idi Hung, said the project was borne out of aspiration to contribute his quota to the growth and development of the country education sector.

He said the idea was to set aside funds for intervention in the area of education, health and social development in Nigeria and Africa in general.

“The chairman has a commitment of setting aside one hundred million dollars annually of which fifty Million Dollars is set aside specifically for Nigeria and the remaining $50m for the rest of Africa.

“In part of what we have done so far, this is the last lap of the university intervention of N1billion development grant to one institution in each geographical zone of the country.”

He reassured that the N1 billion project would commence in a couple of months and commended the institution for their commitment on the project, even as he promised quick completion of the project.

Anambra International airport is the 3rd runway in Nigeria with both runway edge and CENTER lights. Only Abuja Intl. airport and Lagos Intl airport had such an international standard runway with Runway Center lights seen in true international airports in advanced countries!

The two luggage carousels are almost ready!
