Many reply here have actually said enough but just a little thing to add. I was a fan of German cars, my first car was Golf 4 while my second was Passat 2007 model, both are smooth, lovely ride and very strong too but my conclusion is, we are not ripe to drive those cars in this type of environment like Nigeria. My worst experience concerning my Passat made me changed my mind to go for Japanese cars. I put my Passat on sale for almost 6 months in fact, I later sold it like begging the buyer for just 400k, I won’t want to go in to details. So I decided to buy Lexus Es330 but something happened and I later settled for Tokunbo EOD 2005, settling for the Honda was d best decision I ever took cuz I enjoyed d car so much that I hardly spend money on repairs. I travelled to Maiduguri with d car 4 times, Abuja and Kaduna I lost count and I came to Ibadan once. I used the car for almost 2 years and I sold it in less than 2 hours that I put it on sale. German cars are difficult to repair especially in the north where I reside but they are sweet on the road that I can guarantee. In fact, if German cars are to enjoy the same privilege that Japanese cars are enjoying in terms of parts and repairs, few pple will go for Japanese cuz in terms of safety, cool ride, stability and d rest I give it to German but they don’t have resale value and better mechanics. If u want to sleep well at night, my brother, go for Japanese cars. I rest my case.

There is loads of 2nd hand part for BMW infact its cheaper.But if the part is a moving part or a part that requires change after xyz years, i go for brand new original cos buying a brake disk from a donor car of 2005 to put in a 2007 car is not only silly but criminal and I know loads of us here are guilty as charged!
Another angle to look at this from is that the BMW parts are harder to fake so you get genuine most times.Dont forget the Eu is closer than Asia.So BMW parts are closer to us than Toyota parts, so subsequently the parts for jap cars are 9ja used most of the times passed o n as direct tokumbo

Because BMW vehicles are pieces of crap.

Their business models changed just like iPhones. Owners are expected to trade old ones for new ones. So the manufacturers care little about reliability beyond 5 years after the expiration of factory warranty which is why they use cheap plastics in their production. What else will make a sane being dump a car of $100k for $15k? Those high end cars are designed for luxury not reliability. They are not expected to be daily drivers. The new owner inherits the headache. This is not only in Nigeria.

This has nothing to do with the mechanics. Some of the problems started from the factory. Think about trying to cook a delicious soup and end up putting too much maggi.

I have two Bimmer, 3seriesa and an X5, I can never driver a Japanese car. I have good mechanics that handle my cars. He was asking a Japanese mechanic about a Bimmer, he will offcourse discourage you because he will not be working on your car again. Look for a very good Bimmer mechanic and you will get the righ advise. Drive a Bimmer and you will never go back to any Japanese again.

Using one for 8 years now and still counting. When you change a particular part, you might not change again after years of usage. I only changed my break parts ones, the automatic gearbox is still in its top condition, engine superb. Unlike Japanese that you'll have to change most parts weekly or monthly.

I use mine mostly for my long journeys. By month end, I'll leave Owerri to Benin then Abuja, Jos, kaduna, Kano and back to Owerri. I do this with my BM ones in two to three months. But 8 years ago, mechanics and friends warned me not to buy this Car. Most of them have spent more in fixing their Cars while others have changed their Cars severally within this period.

Then you come to find out a tad too late that those Einsteins used a plastic coolant line inside the engine bay that sits on top of the starter. Intelligent right? Plastic deteriorates over time and there goes your engine and starter.
If you have the time, open up the engine of newer model BMW 7 series. I can understand such mess in cheap cars. But for a vehicle that costs more than $100k, much more is desired. Go to any junkyard website and search for BMWs, they are throwing them away.

I have a soft spot for Audis and BMWs. I also love rare cars. Problem is, where are the parts to fix them when they breakdown?

I am not ready to park a vehicle for two weeks because the faulty part needs to be imported.

This is one of the reasons people like me go for regular brands. It's not because we enjoy driving them, it's for the peace of mind they give.

They are throwing BMW away? which Junk yard bross? I own a newer version of BMW plastic is seen in all cars it hs become part of our crs to reduce weight. even range rovers have plastics so I am finding it difficult to understand your point here
