Person wey fit afford Benz and BMW no dey reason fuel and maintenance cost.

Most people who complain weren't really in the financial bracket of people eligible to drive a luxury brand.

Finally, kindly stick to what your finances can cater for.

BMWs are very prone to devaluation hence their very low second hand value. Another reason is BMWs are very expensive to maintain and in a place like Nigeria with suboptimal maintenance technology, you are going be to caught between paying exorbitant fees at a dealership or payless for a trial by error mechanic.

Using one for 8 years now and still counting. When you change a particular part, you might not change again after years of usage. I only changed my break parts ones, the automatic gearbox is still in its top condition, engine superb. Unlike Japanese that you'll have to change most parts weekly or monthly.

I use mine mostly for my long journeys. By month end, I'll leave Owerri to Benin then Abuja, Jos, kaduna, Kano and back to Owerri. I do this with my BM ones in two to three months. But 8 years ago, mechanics and friends warned me not to buy this Car. Most of them have spent more in fixing their Cars while others have changed their Cars severally within this period.
Experience is often the best teacher.

Cost of maintenance and availability of competent mechanics especially in Naija are the major issues why majority prefers japanese cars to German. That Kazeem who suggested you go for Japanese already knows that the moment you buy the Beemer, he'll lose you to Coscharis or other advanced auto workshop hence the reason for his advise but if you ever drive a German car, you won't think of driving Japanese car again.

Resale value of any non-jap mobile is very low. Except you use a dealership or high tech mechanic, it is assumed you have abused the car and you’re selling it off because of a recurring (most likely electrical) problem.

If you don’t plan to resell or you don’t mind reselling at a low price, then you can go for it.

Many reply here have actually said enough but just a little thing to add. I was a fan of German cars, my first car was Golf 4 while my second was Passat 2007 model, both are smooth, lovely ride and very strong too but my conclusion is, we are not ripe to drive those cars in this type of environment like Nigeria. My worst experience concerning my Passat made me changed my mind to go for Japanese cars. I put my Passat on sale for almost 6 months in fact, I later sold it like begging the buyer for just 400k, I won’t want to go in to details. So I decided to buy Lexus Es330 but something happened and I later settled for Tokunbo EOD 2005, settling for the Honda was d best decision I ever took cuz I enjoyed d car so much that I hardly spend money on repairs. I travelled to Maiduguri with d car 4 times, Abuja and Kaduna I lost count and I came to Ibadan once. I used the car for almost 2 years and I sold it in less than 2 hours that I put it on sale. German cars are difficult to repair especially in the north where I reside but they are sweet on the road that I can guarantee. In fact, if German cars are to enjoy the same privilege that Japanese cars are enjoying in terms of parts and repairs, few pple will go for Japanese cuz in terms of safety, cool ride, stability and d rest I give it to German but they don’t have resale value and better mechanics. If u want to sleep well at night, my brother, go for Japanese cars. I rest my case.

most German cars are complex for our mechanics to understand when compared to the Japanese counterparts,so its easier to fix an accord or corolla or civic or Camry than a Benz or bimmer to an average mechanic in Nigeria, then secondly the electrical set up of most German cars is also a pain in the a*s to our rewires here, like I've always said,I won't drive Japanese car if I'm outside Nigeria, but to save myself the stress I will pick the jap mobile when I de naija,so in summary no be say German cars no make sense o,just that our environment no favor dem..lol

I use Volkswagen CC, German are simply the best. Look for a good and upto date BMW mechanic to advise you, don't listen to japanese mechanic. They can condemn even the best cars in the world just because they don't know how to fix it.

I got peace of mind since 2 years ago that I bought my VW cc, unlike my Lexus es that almost finished me.

Lol.. I know the car you saw for N1.9m. It's a 118i and it has a 1.6L turbocharged engine which is actually small for a real enhusiast. It's in the same level as a MB A-class.

If the seller were in Lagos, I may have bought it as second car.

BMW'S are not difficult to maintain. Get a BMW engineer to service it and throw in the right parts at the right time then you have no issues.

As a BMW owner, I'll tell you for free; the experience of owning and driving a BMW is not comparable to any Japanese out there.

100%

I've yet to meet a car that can outrun my e46 (6 cylinders)

E no get car when Nigeria dey favour, right from the moment they enter into the country from the docks, mechanics and electricians will start their guess work even on your jap mobile, bad roads dey one side to make sure say the car can never normal again.

Normally if no be pride when dey kill us, Nigeria suppose be like Vietnam where everybody dey ride bicycle or scooter because we no advance reach to take care of cars properly.

I have been wondering why a BMW X6 will cost less than most not too fancied SUVs and Crossovers. At a time I had to search for BMW car forums to see if it's because their cars are too problematic but to my surprise I was disappointed. It was just usual complaints just like other car owners. So Op I also wonder with you.

BTW please if there's a reason for this I also want to know because I want to launch my X6 soon

A neighbour then, who happens to be a pastor was gifted a a Nigerian used BMW, his life changed .. he goes late to church, comes home late. On several occasions the car sleeps on the road...it came to a point people were praying that he should be delivered of the car...
The only truth here is that we aren't matured for BMW. BMW is a machine meant for the rich and advanced country where their service centers are rampart

Re: Why Are BMW Cars Unbelievably Cheap? by skj1377(m): 9:56am On Oct 21, 2021
The reason is simple. 1) the car will be with the mechanic 90% of the time meaning if you don't have a spare car you will still be using public transport. 2) they Dont call it "Big Money Waste" for nothing. The car will drain you of money you could use to solve other problems in your life. 3) how many BMW do you see on Nigerian roads there for a Bmw mechanic will need to go hungry or change to other car brands on Nigerian roads this simply translates to, if you car stops say on you way to Abuja from lagos the nearby mechanics may not know how to locate the fuel pump or even the set of tools required to address the problem. Now imagine the cost to ship a mechanic from lagos to the location of the car and availability of spare parts. You may have to tow the car to lagos or Abuja
