Personally, I do not know what the problem is.
If some persons claimed,they are not yorubas,then let them be.
When this country divide,those who are yorubas will form their own country while those who are not, will form theirs.
Only that this time , there will be a strong border and immigration policies.
I wish both groups luck.

Not everyone from Kogi is Yoruba. So , it is quite possible the OP met some people from Kogi who were not Yoruba but spoke Yoruba.

I have a friend Abudullahi by name, who hails from Yagba, Kogi state. The day I called him a Yoruba man he became furious and nearly dropped me with a Drew-McIntyre-liked Claymore kick and after that day I came to the realization that most Kogites hates to be associated with Yoruba people.

Its called dialect. Same language, slight variations. Known this since my primary school days. Same thing happens in places all over the world where the same language is spoken by a large group of people. E.g the US, Britain and France.

I do t think so, all the Kabba, Isanlu etc people i met never claim to be anything other than Yoruba....

It's like saying because of the variant of Yoruba spoken by the Ekiti people, Ondo, etc, you mow say they are not Yoruba...

However if anyone told you he is not of a certain tribe, then respect their opinion...
