Whether it is private or public school, is it not the duty of the state to ensure the academic environment is conducive for the pupils? Who approved the school and allow it to operate in the first instance? Who sets the standard? Or are the schools not supposed to be registered with the state? The way Nigerians jumped to defend responsibilities in government is sickening.

I will firstly blame the owners of the school who have the responsibility of providing a conducive learning environment before blaming the government who have the duty of supervising the school. It should not be the other way round.

Anyway, the school was closed down and demolished by the state government even before the video went viral and the needful will be done before it can be reopened.

It is not about the school building, it’s about the road and drainage system in that area. Do the needful and forget all the eye service.

Lagos operate the most proactive system of governance in Nigeria. Yet, the children of hate want the state to be ruled by a party that is known world wide as the most corrupt party whose main aim is to keep looting from the cookie jar. Like I keep saying, the best candidate for president of this country must be someone with a track record of managing diverse ethnicity, religion, race etc and only Lagos State past governors has such records. It is only in Lagos you see other tribes, people from other states in key position

I don't think d Lagos state govt is to blame for d situation. First it is a private school. Second, even if it was public school, I can't understand why d school handlers would allow kids to stand inside dirty water

For even responding to the viral video, Lagos State government shows some level of responsibility. It should not stop there; they need to update us as well. More importantly, other states need to follow suit.

I knew it was not a public school in Lagos.

Please why should any child in Makoko or some other part of Lagos not be in a government school? Is that not a nonnegotiable basic for progressive governance

Honestly, being from a poor home in Nigeria is the most traumatic and dehumanizing experience for anyone.

Should the government not employ enough monitors to constantly go around and ensure standards are complied with by the private schools, since the supposedly progressive government has failed to deliver

Government cannot force parents to put their kids in public schools. Good public schools are in that area but some parents for reasons best known to them prefer to enroll their kids in low cost private schools. That’s not government’s fault.

And I believe the state has a responsibility to punish the management of the school who subjected the poor kids to such unhygienic and dehumanizingly heinous condition. If possible, the irresponsible parents who send their children to such schools also needs some trashing. Ignorance and high level of irresponsibility at all level is the bane of this soc9of ours.

It is the effect of our low expectations for the few among us that we allow in government. Is that why Fela sang about suffering and smiling

Lagos swiftly reply to issues. Another example was the case of a bridge that people were doubting its strength.

Does the British government force over 95% of children into public schools, such that Buhari and Tinubu can run there for medical tourism, because they have a widespread educated labour force

The response was reactive to a disastrous situation that should not have reached that point, if there are enough monitors employed and overall accountability.
