Something is fishy about this , How come they've been operating since 2005 and we all just get to know now that is illegal. I think return is not being flowing as before .

She said we are expecting the government to answer our prayers and give us our rifles and patrol vans....

This one off me, I swear.

Some of these people were actually hoping to go into full fledged armed robbery.

Navy merchant kor, Navy Trader Ni.

As a general advice, before you venture into any of these things, ask them for the law setting them up. Before I joined SPY police I had to confirm that they had powers as specified in the Police Act that regulates police activities in the country and beyond. Make una shine una eyes oo

Normally they pay huge sums to join and that is where everything comes from....feeding, uniform etc. What I don't know is where they plan to end up.

The FG should make a pronouncement on this Merchant Navy stuff once and for all cos these perennial raids by the Police on them is now ridiculous and smirks off as a 'returns' issue.

Nigeria is no longer a safe heaven for criminals, bandits and terrorist (Igbos and Co) any longer. The men of the Nigerian Police and other security outfit will make sure they are crushed completely.

Thanks to the Nigerian Police for the arrest of these criminals in our society.

Why did Buhari suddenly develop balls to equip Nigerian military weaponry, the weapons that the military have been complaining about for years that they don't have to fight Boko Haram, now they have it in abundance thanks to the latest shopping spree for armoury by the armed forces? Did Buhari purchase those weapons for the military to fight secessionist groups like Biafra and Oduduwa agitators? One thing I've noticed about this Fulani's man Buhari is that he always listens to the advice of his northern brothers. After former military head of state babangida made the suggestion that he should equip the military to fight all enemies of the state (tacitly referring to Sunday Igboho and Kanu), Buhari never looked back in buying all the latest weapons for them: fighter jets, armored vehicles, war ships, etc.

Those weapons he is shopping for the military is the Buhari sending signal that he will not allow this country to be restructured and he is preparing for a civil war.

I met one in NYSC camp during my service year. She said she is not an “ordinary copper” and she won’t allow the military men on camp and the Man O War to boss her around. I asked her if she is a soldier too, and I hope she knows it is illegal for soldiers to go for NYSC. She started yarning crap saying she is in the merchant navy and showed me her ID card. As at then, I hadn’t heard about it before, when I googled it, I saw a lot of stories about the merchant navy being illegal and at one point, they even had a fight with the real navy in Apapa port, Lagos

Most of these merchant navy paid huge sums to join the formation and many of them are not even aware that it is illegal and not yet approved by the Nigerian senate.

Well,I am surprised they said Merchant Navy is an illegal Organization. But from a little I know, this people have a well recognized physical offices all over the coastal States of Nigeria.Go to Uyo, Calabar,PH,etc you will see their offices well operational without hindrances from govt.
Also, institutions like Maritime Academy of Nigeria,Oron,AKS trains and passed out thousands of this people ( Merchant Navy) every year.I visited the school sometimes ago when my junior brother was schooling there. The students are well kitted with full military regalia (Naval) with ranks and are regimented. And they attend any of their colleagues' events or govt. functions outside their school with this full military uniforms. Why haven't they been arrested. For your information, those Merchant Navy in Maritime are being trained by Nigeria Navy Officials.
Also, you cannot work as a ship sailor without being properly regimented Naval-wise.Take note that airplane pilots, engineers and some specific unit in the civil aviation also uses some Air Force insignia officially and identify themselves anywhere as Airmen without being arrested as Air Force personels impersonators.
So me think, it's the illegality of the training location that makes the police term it illegal organization and not the Organization itself.
It's the opinion of a layman in Maritime sector though,so I may be correct and I may also be wrong.

i thought this was legit. They even have a website.

They really ain't legit. They actually are the first nig navy. The current navy job was territorial integrity
and these guys were merchant, maritime affairs but the navy upstaged them years ago cos of the huge money involved in their activities. They have leaders who have some little bit but not enough connections. The nig navy is definitely behind this arrest.

These chewgum navy as somebody once referred to them, are hungry and some do illegal activities with uniform like accompanying vehicular shipments like lorries, vans etc just to survive.
I've heard of some caught by NN officiets and beaten and stripped off the uniforms to their boxers in public!!!

Well my advice to them especially those young people among them is to forget about everything lest hunger and frustrations continue to put them in trouble..

I wonder how they were being paid all these while

Job that the federal government did not create they are banning it,while hisbah police is allowed to operate freely destroying companies products that pays taxes to government even cutting people's arms and legs for breaking religious laws, the illegal merchant navy that the police arrested why not introduce them to federal government for proper documentations and training since they are not caught breaking the laws of the land,if it boko haram now government will recruit them into the military.

It has always been illegal. In 2013, my uncle paid for one of my cousins only for them to find out the organisation is not approved by the federal government. They did their training then in Ogun state.

It's not a power tussle.

Nigeria does not have a merchant navy organisation
These ones took it upon themselves to create one in the hope that government would later legalize it like what happened with NSCDC (which was not originally approved by government). The organizers should be dealt with so that others don't get the idea of creating phantom forces which they then blackmail government into approving and then run as their personal fiefdoms after approval

They don't get paid salary.

After training is when you will be told to wait for federal government approval

Well we are all operating from the realm of conjecture. What I think is some of them create job for themselves. Those people that sit in front with lorry drivers to avoid police checks on the roads are paid tidy sums. Recall one of the girls said they are hoping and praying that government provides them rifle and patrol vehicles. They don't know that after training they should be posted. My bros, na their matter ooo. I no go take panadol for another person headache mbok.
