1. VFS most likely won't allow you submit the application cos a requirement is that your passport is valid for at least 30days (or 3months depending on Visa type) after you leave the Republic.

2. In the unlikely event that you are allowed to submit and you are miraculously granted 3months visa for example ( which implies that your Visa will expire after your passport expires), Nigeria immigration officers at the airport will not allow you travel out with that passport. The unwritten rule is that your passport actually cannot be used for travelling 6months before the actual expire date. I'm not even making this up, it happened to a very close friend of mine, he was turned back at the airport.

3. Let's again imagine that you get the visa, SA visas expire when your passport expires. The consular isn't supposed to give you a visa that will expire after the actual expiry date of a passport but in few cases that there have been errors, the visa is deemed expired when the passport expires. So in case you get a Visa that expires in May (as an example) and you miraculously (again) are able to travel to the republic, if you try to leave after your passport has expired but your visa hasn't, you'd be treated like you've overstayed.

TLDR? Please renew that passport to avoid hoping on some complex miraculous sequence.

The bastards at the Abuja South African High Commission have held my passport for 2 months. I curse them. May the HIV rate in their country keep rising.

Instead of speaking curses that wouldn't work, why don't you withdraw your passport?
You're applying to where there's hiv rate , what irony

I also just heard something. The South Africans at the High Commission in Nigeria are corrupt. They want to get more money from you so they delay your visa intentionally so that you seek alternative ways of getting their visas and then end up going to one of their agents who charge exorbitantly to help you fast track your visa. These agents make returns back to officials at the South African High Commission. It is a racket and even the High Commissioner is in on it. They want you to go through their agents who advertise on social media and elsewhere and so they make it difficult for you to get it the normal way so that you go through these crooks for your visa. And these agents charge anywhere from N400K to N1m to tell the embassy to expect your application so that the S.A officials look out for it and approve your visa immediately.

Big Brother Naija ended on October 3. Meanwhile, some of the participants who were finalists (and who have never visited South Africa before), were able to get visas to visit South Africa -- because one of the South African High Commission's agents in Abuja has some ambassadorship dealings with a couple of the BBNaija finalists. So, in less than a month, these people were able to apply for a visa and get it.

I have requested for my passport to be withdrawn, and if these people delay my passport I will report to the Foreign Affairs and expose this racket to Sahara Reporters, The Cable, Premium Times, and top newspapers this Tuesday. I swear. These people don't even know I can be crazy.

Lol.
The people you are reporting to, aren't they more corrupt than the SA consuls?

This isn't news nah
Like for example Poland visa appointment dates are sold daily, it's in the open.

Lol. Not necessarily. This is a story written by a Nigerian Journalist some time ago about the wickedness of the S.A High Commission in Nigeria -- https://www.icirnigeria.org/how-south-africa-denies-nigerians-entry-through-late-issuance-of-visa/

I only need to invoke this old article to trusted Nigerian media people to get them angry again, and tell them of the nonsense these S.A people are doing. Media in Nigeria is fraternal and these guys hate the S.A Embassy with so much passion because many of them have been on the receiving end of the wickedness of the S.A High Commission in the past. By the time 6 or more high profile outlets expose this S.A Visa racket and intentional deliberate withholding of passport and call on the govt to act, there will be results. You Nigerians just resign yourselves to nonsense and give up so easily and that's why govt and everyone keeps giving you nonsense. Keep giving excuses that everyone is corrupt and don't go and fight. I've fought many media battles over injustice and won...you have no idea. Stop being so defeatist and learn to take your chances in battle.

Everything about the SA tire me, I’ve sent emails, no acknowledgment or response, ffs the passport is a property of the FG and not theirs. Imagine holding unto people’s passport for months on what basis? Someone gave me a contact of an agent that helps with SA visa, he claimed to have been assisted by him after he got his visa denied initially , he promised to assist me and I’ll get my visa within a week with 200% assurance and full refund after a month if I didn’t get it. I just felt it was stupid to pay that much for a SA visa after I’ve given all the documents they want. Well, sadly I regret not paying him now cos see the shit im into since Sept 28. Smh

Lol,call on which government to act? The same Nigerian government gave them the leverage to act, they have their own cut from the racket. Isn't it Nigerians that met them to start the racketeering? Nothing media rants will do, all the embassies dey do Shakara for Nigeria so it's not even an issue. Have you heard of what Nigerian embassies do abroad? What about passport racketeering in immigration offices? Even Nigerian consulate in Johannesburg gan gan, the passport racketeering, there was a protest and media coverage of it with news all over but till now the problem isn't still solved. The corruption is from the top so if those at the top are corrupt, the citizens rant or media no go change shit. Even usa embassy nko , haven't you seen the article of how they make millions daily. Lol ...the country is trash, that's why.
In Kenya, Botswana, Ghana etc they don't pass through half of the hurdles we pass through to migrate, why? Because their country are ok and just few people migrate but here everybody wan travel so they treat us like shit.

I thought of this, then I remembered that big brother is a DSTV program, and DSTV is a South African company. So it made sense how that was possible in such a short time. Holding on to people's passports for so long is still unfair though.

BTW I gave 15k rands for naira. Who is interested??
