I am so happy with this news. How can you beat your lecturer? Something is wrong with some Nigerian youths.

He should be sent to prison for at least 10-18 years.
But it's right for the lecturer to attack him with mug, we all forgot who initiated the attack then go for the other party with less social status.
Fgs the lecturer is just a job like very other job no exceptions for being violently active

How are you sure, where is the evidence.

Let's even say she threw a mug at him

1. He went to her office

2. He did not use self defence but rather, he attacked her.

Let's reason now.....

No justification

If you come to my office and I throw a mug at you , you will proceed to beat me up rather than walk out to save your head ?

Nigeria keep getting it wrong, simple thing like law u can't do it well later we Nigeria will be complaining, suffering and smiling.

Granted the student attempted to terminate the life of the his lecturer.

But what about the unprofessional, undiplomatic, tactless conduct (throwing mug at the face of her student) of the lecturer that prompted her student to react in a barbaric manner?

U guys should not let her go unpunished. Doing that will further perpetuate this rubbish shithole tag status that Trump described us with. If u let her go free, then you are making this country a shithole. Do the right thing, the world is watching.

What he did was legally and morally wrong based on media reports. Even on the reports the evidence does not suggest a case of attempted murder. The suspect was alleged to have punched and kicked the lecturer and she suffered little or no injuries. He's not reported to have used broken glass or other objects. Based on the reports, he should be charged for assault and malicious damage to property. Let's not forget though that lawyers (including "charge & bail" ones) are waiting to be engaged by the suspect and during trial the story can change, even to the extent that the lecturer may look like she should be the one that ought to be arraigned and not the student.

Since you have much hope in charge and bail lawyers then why can't you go and beat up your lecturer after which you can hire one of them.

Assuming the assault took place in public with witnesses, then he may have faced an assault charge.
But the fact that he went into her office, was alone with her in the office and beat her up in her office makes him liable to be charged with attempted murder.

The prosecution can charge him with attempted murder because it cannot be proven beyond reasonable doubt that he didn't go into her office to kill her.

Thank you !!!!

Honestly if this guy does not use 15-20 years in prison (not jail) I will know Nigeria is truly finished.

His only defence is to plead that he was under the influence of hard drugs with emerging psychiatric problem so he can be sent to a psychiatric hospital instead of doing jail time. He is in a very bad position already having beglen rusticated from school at 400L and now facing criminal charges.

It can and it should. No one should support violence but the case here is a student beating a FEMALE lecturer... the person is someone's wife, mother, grand mother and sister.

Even in the western world that we always try to copy, this is unacceptable and it is called assault.

The guy should be thrown to PRISON for a decade or more. No time
it is the same thing that should be applied to lecturers no lecturer has been thrown in jail for battering a student we see it on social media. Mind you, the lady in particular is someone's wife and mother.

Show me a lecturer battering a student. Then show me evidence of the student reporting the case to the authorities or even the media.

Even at that, he need an alibi to support his claim.

Honestly people like that student, we should not be wasting state resources on him

I think the police and every other body involved in this case are adding heaps of false allegations to the boy's offence. He did a grave wrong by hitting his lecturer, but to spice up the case by adding more salt to the injury is just to kill a dead dog. Haba!

I watched the interview where the boy explained everything. How he travelled to Lagos to visit a friend and ended up in a police net (which is suspicious already), then coming back to school to beg the lecturer who did not want to hear anything. How she slapped and threw a mug at him that brought his retaliation is not being talked about. I feel sorry for his family, really.

Happy Sunday folks! Make sure you stay away from trouble and learn to bear wrongs patiently, you will thank yourself when you lay in bed every night.

Police report revealed that the suspect, had consumed some hard drugs before going to the lecturer’s office, who is his SIWES Industrial Training coordinator

Is there any toxicology report to back it up?

You don't need a toxicologist to know a person high on drugs. Just like you don't need a toxicologist to know a drunk person

3)assualt.

No lecture would throw mug at you if you have not provoke an action.

The lecturer could defend herself that she was held hostage with the intention of killing her by holding on to her neck then. The only available option her hands could hold was the mug which the intention was to use it to free her from his clutches.

Senseless idiot So if u beat ur teacher,he will award you marks for beating him.
If u are having an issue with ur teacher which u can't sort alone, approach her co teachers and superiors for help.U can even approach a stake holder in the town d school is located for assistance Just a call from d stakeholder if u are right will change ur story.
Aside d fact she is ur lecturer, she is far older than u and u must respect her at least for her age.
Could u have done the same to ur age mates in d same situation

The judge is not fair he could have granted him bail for the minor offence
What happened to the principal of defendant being innocent until proven guilty, at least the defendant have a right to fair hearing as guaranteed in the Nigeria constitution.
This is a clear case of class struggle were the mighty oppressed the les privileged, see how police twist the report just because the victim is big woman, how did the police came to conclude that he was on hard drugs as at the time of incident
Those who are commenting are just acting on an emotion and based on the the fact that the victim is a female
If the reverse is the case you could have imagine the outcome ,remember Ojukwu Chidimma case how she is being treated

Good.

As has been said many times, we also need some more compassion from our lecturers, more help for struggling students, more clarification of certain university policies, better mental health help for problem students, and also ultimately, more funding for our universities.

Well put.
We need to do more in this country.

Good.

While I would state that he is innocent until proven guilty, I would also candidly hope that he is sentenced for the crime of assault because what he did was wrong. Even if he was 'hit by the mug' as many of his defenders state, he should have left the office and gone to the police, and it would have been the lecturer in court as the accused. Instead he attacked, and thus stepped into the trap that the advesary had laid for him.

Also, I would like to once again state my sadness at those who think that their lecturer should be assaulted because of 'mistreatment' In life you will meet a lot of pompous, crude, and need I say evil people. If you can react to them normally without losing your temper, you show great maturity, and great self control. Wishing violence on one's lecturer is the beginning step on a road you would not want to take. And how you react to the rude and pompous lecturers in your school is a preparation for how you would do it in the workspace. If you can handle it without losing your cool...you would make it in the workplace and in life. You would make it as a leader when you have to handle competing egos.

And again, this was not a case of mistreatment. The student was not being asked to leave the university, nor was he being 'unjustly marked' . He missed his SIWES and was being offered a second chance to do his SIWES...which meant an extra year in university.(He also had some carryovers , but that's another story.)

As has been said many times, we also need some more compassion from our lecturers, more help for struggling students, more clarification of certain university policies, better mental health help for problem students, and also ultimately, more funding for our universities.

Again, what this guy did was wrong. And the case is not looking good. He had been pestering his lecturer for ages, he had refused to bring proof of the illness that he claimed that stopped him from doing SIWES, and then he got upset when he was told he had to repeat a year. The lecturer did the right thing by telling him the truth....and he lost his temper for being told that he had to repeat a year. All I would say is how we respond to setbacks in life shows us the kind of person we are. And I don't think I have much sympathy for someone getting angry over an extra year ...to do the practical aspect of his course. The guy was not ready to learn how to handle his failure...and that's a big deficiency in my book.

Good morning.

The lecturers story is too long.
The guy said he was locked up for the period of the siwes and appealed to the woman to do something then she got mad and threw a mug bla bla bla. I don’t support his action in any way but maybe they’re trying to exaggerate what he actually did
