Lalasticlala, I am also interested in knowing why these fraudsters can't be tracked using their phone numbers? When you watch the crime channel (IDExtra) on DSTv, you'll see how these American cops track criminals with just a phone.

Why is our own case different?

Because Nigeria cops are not interested.
They are busy intimidating law abiding citizens.

Guys, some bank staffs also run kolabo with these fraudsters.

Just last week, my younger bro opened a UBA account. Yes, UBA. I mentioned the bank name because I'm highly disappointed.

Back to my story... After he registered account, got his Mastercard ATM. Barely 24 hours afterwards, he started receiving 419 calls.
He hasn't even used the card online.

The fraudsters know his name, full name, date of birth. Virtually every information about him.

They went like, am I speaking with (name with held) , I'm so so so from UBA, and I would like to ask some information to help us serve you better. Can you confirm that your date of birth is (...).

This happened to me, i came to Naija for vacation, decided to open acct with UBA, using a newly registered mobile number that i have not used to call anyone. One document was missing so the acct was not opened that day, and i went home with the form i had filled which they have scanned to their system. 2 days later i was suppsoe to go back and get it done, but was busy. Suddenly i received a call with the person saying he is customer srrvice with UBA, he mentioned my name and other details, and then asked my card details. Immediately i told him the acct had not even been finalised due to missing document and he has called to get my details as a customer............the were responded with a curse. To now know how dumb he was, he didn't keep record, the same idiot called me few days later with same format, that was when i reminded him that he had called me before, this time around, i retuned his CURSE in CAPITAL LETTER grin grin grin grin grin\

The shocking part was that they knew the card details already. They only needed the 4 digit ATM pin.

How else will they have all those information if there are no insiders selling out info to fraudsters. Guys just beware. Eye dey red and boys are not smiling. Criminals are everywhere

This is gradually coming into place, not until telecom companies shut off unregistered numbers, it can't be fully implemented. Once lines with NO NIN are are shut, scammers will be easier to track. so patiently wait until then. Stay safe.
lol..u think it's easy to just shut off unregistered sim..
Lmao..imagine having 7m unregistered sim out of ur 10m to customers..
Go ahead and shut them off weda u nor go loose heavily...

There is always an advantage and disadvantage to everything that is done, You would weigh it and resolve to the more preferable outcome. As it is said, Problem no dey finish! But we still Move!....... Whether you like it or NOT, whether they will loose heavily or not, Unregistered Sims will be shut later or sooner. It's not easy, that is why they have been trying to reduce the LOSS margin by postponing the shut off date several times. Scammers will still attempt to play around it, but it will drastically DOWNTURN the use of phone numbers for easy scamming. I suggest you should simply get registered as you may have already done so and let the Telecom companies worry about their losses let's hear.....MOST OF THEM HAVE BEEN MAKING PROFIT FOR YEARS!

That is why the linkage to NIN helps identify the true owner ...I believe there is a policy that restrict a SIM card to just one NIN linkage
Newboss:

The numbers are registered. Pre-registered SIM.

E go shock you to find out that that your beloved SIM was pre-registered by someone else before you bought it. Say no be your picture and name dey that SIM. For your mind, na you register that SIM.

Those guys registering SIM can register it with their own details. This country na joke

If the SIM was not registered with your picture and name, then you cannot link your NIN to that SIM, and your network provider can't do anything to help.

Those with pre-registered SIMs should forget about the SIM and start using a new one.

Not true. On NIMC Mobile App, you can link up to 7 SIMs to one NIN.
