Dowen College, Lekki, Lagos has released a statement on the death of Sylvester Oromoni, a class 2 student of the school who died from injuries he sustained after he was allegedly assaulted by schoolmates, IgbereTV reports.

The school released a statement dated 4th December 2021. It reads;

"FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
4th December 2021

DOWEN COLLEGE SPEAKS: COMMISERATES WITH SYLVESTER OROMONI'S FAMILY

Our deepest sympathies go out to the family of one of our beloved students, Sylvester Oromoni Jr.

He was dearly loved by his fellow students and he was a beacon of light for the school.

The tragic and unfortunate incident which transpired this past November, and Sylvester's untimely death requires a thorough and proper investigation.

Dowen College is fully committed to this.

We are assisting the authorities to get to the bottom of this heartbreaking incident.

The first steps taken by the school, in conjunction with the Ministry of Education, has been the immediate closure of the school to aid investigation.

Understandably, at this time of intense grief and suffering, emotions are raw and tensions are high.

We pray that God, who alone knows how to comfort the sorrowing, will comfort Sylvester's family and all those who loved and knew him.

We commiserate with the Oromoni family, and the students of Dowen College who have lost a friend and a fellow student.

This is a traumatic experience.

We assure our parents that the school is taking steps to ensure the safety and security of their children and wards.

This is paramount.

Every child is valued at Dowen College and their health and well-being is one of the utmost priority of the school.

This school appears to be a reputable school with what I read online about them, one of the best school in Lagos state..

I really do hope they can bounce back, but sadly the hungry Nigerian media sphere has done a really great damage to the image of the school (beyond repair)

Yes, the school loose guide big time, but the recent development surrounding this issue is needless, I mean, stuffs like, revealing the owner of the school with bad captions.... Is that going to change anything?
The school management didn't notice this small loopholes, we can't blame them, cultism is strange in Luxury private colleges.

May the soul of the young promising boy continue to rest in peace.

The school is just after making money and not so concerned about the affairs of the students else it won't have gotten to this stage.

Yet nothing said about the killers.
All this is a diplomatic talk that still says nothing about bringing the killers to book.
It's well.

Classic Animal Kingdom school

Only the Fit will survive (in this case, financially fit)

Because I don't see any reason why students would have enough time to beat a fellow student to the point where his liver will be enlarged.

And also points to the fact that there was no proper disciplinarian in the school. (No lights out, no hall master, no year head)

Also that the teachers themselves were respectful of the culprits due to the wealth and social standing of their parents. (Looking for tips and handouts from them during visiting days)

Nothing like a Good, Government School. Where regardless of your wealth and standing, a hot headed teacher can slap celestial beings into your damaged brain.

Two things are involved infact 3 things if I'm not mistaking for normalcy to be restored;
1. Invite the culprits and their parents to wake the dead child from the dead
2. Allowing the full wrath of the law to take its course by charging the culprits, their parents and the school accordingly as within the Constitution.
3. Allowing the family of the deceased to practice Moses concept of "an eye for an eye", this will balance the whole equation especially with full government support.

Anything far from the above is just like pouring water into a basket and hoping it gets full.

Shut up! If it was your child, would you say the same thing?

You just spat a whole bunch of useless crap, this was a case of terrible negligence and the school should go down for it. Period! You are defending a school that instead of handing the culprits to the authorities called the parents to come and fly the murderers out of the country in a bid to cover up the crime.

No make me vex this Sunday morning guy

Silly people. This is the statement they should have released earlier. It’s called a “holding statement”. Something generic without any assertion of facts pending further investigation.

But they rushed to issue an assertive statement declaring the boy was injured in a football match just to cover their ass and protect the culprits now they are retracting as the real facts are coming to light.

They should immediately fire their PR team or who ever authorized that initial statement. This is basic PR 101.

Media is not the problem. The school is thier own problem. They are claiming the incident that happen to the boy is a self inflicted one, that is an attempt to fool us all.

Some teachers have also seriously injured students. Say no to all violence against people, especially children.
