BMS. Battery Management System I assume. What is that about?

BMS ensures even charging and discharging of each cell that makes up the battery system. Cheers!

Your initial setup (2 batteries and 1300w pv) should be just fine if used appropriately.

Changing the PWM to MPPT on the set up is also a good boost.

BUT: do not add new batteries to the one you have been using, DO NOT TRY IT!

If you are getting 4 new batteries, the your 1300w and 80 Amp controller should do.

I am interested in finding out if a 20 Watts Solar Panel can charge a laptop effectively?

Even with the appropriate controller, I doubt it will give you a good charge. What are the voltage and amperage spec for your laptop?

My solar freezer can work with both solar and Nepa light.

My fridge was defrosting yesterday since there was no light for about 12 hours.
I plugged the fridge into the inverter unit and voila! Everything was fine.
I monitored the battery level and it didn't drop as fast as I thought.

So, I am good

HI bro
I already have 1 200ah battery which I have been using for about 8 months now. No issue.
I wanted to ask, can I add one extra battery now? Someone said I can't. That I just have to buy new 2 ones.

Well......if it's still performing at optimum...then yes...but if not, it might even bring down the new one to its level

I looked around online on jumia, jiji and konga for ranges of 500watt inverters and chargers. After a rigorous check and comparison, I settled for this (picture attached) for 35k.

It is a 2 -in-1 package.( Solar charger / controller + 800va - 500w inverter). So no need for a separate solar controller

Nice setup, so how long does it last (considering the fact you shouldn't run it below 40% of the battery) and what load capacity do you use on it?
Ovaltine:
Your DIY mentality is commendable.
I am sure it wasn't as simple as red to red or black to black but you still nailed it.

The wiring can be neater.
I suppose you ran a continuity test on the whole system and you separated your heavy load via wiring as well. You don't want a visitor to mistakenly plug a 2500w steam iron into your unit.

Oh. I see there is a socket. Does this mean an extension is sending power to your appliances?

I recently did a 3kva 24v PSW Beaver, 2x 200ah 12v Gel Ritar , 2x 300w mono installation.

I had to pay the optional installation fee despite my strong background in electricals. Its just easier to pay experts these days.

It lasts as long as 14 hours with about 600 watts constantly on it. This is my minimal load which will take me from sundown to sunrise when the solar will pick it up again.

Does the 600w include your fridge?
How's it holding up?
Cause i think fridge is what's still holding me back should incase Nepa decides not to supply power for like 3 days, and buying solar fridge is not in the plan for now.

The problem is that solar panels are not very efficient converting solar to electricity. The best you can get is 23% efficiency which is very bad to be honest. But considering the free availability of solar and potential cost of petrol in the new year, it makes a lot of sense to tap whatever you can from solar.

My own worry is that make state or federal governments no go dey bill people for owning solar panels like Lagos was planning to bill people for boreholes
I hope you understand what 'efficiency' means when talking about solar panels? Because 23% efficiency is very very good. The efficiency stated on the solar panels is not how many watts they can produce. But means the power to size ratio. In simple English it means if 2 panels are exactly the same dimensions and one panel is rated 300w while the other is rated 400w, the later panel can produce more watts with same form factor hence more 'efficient'. Most good panels produce 80% and above of their capacity when installed properly.
