An MBA In Human Resources Or CIPM Certification? by creolehunt: 8:38pm On Dec 09, 2021
Professionals in the House, please which do you advise?

I already have an MSc in a Social Science course, but plan to pursue a career in HR but have been wondering the best path.

Should I pursue an MBA in Human Resources from NOUN or simply sign up for a CIPM certification?

I'm not in the profession, but I believe that an MBA trounces any certification as far as Management is concerned.

My only concern may be the fact that you're getting it from NOUN.

If you want to practice as HR professional you will need CIPM license and other government licenses. So even if you have MBA you will still need Professional licenses. As a professional HR I will advise you do a course in HR Analytics rather than MBA since you already have M.sc . Why I said so is that it will help you grow your career adding analytical skill is highly demand job worldwide.

Go for the MBA, it is incomparable with the CIPM stuff. MBA has its numerous advantages including visa application

MBA in HR please... CIPM has no real value outside the shores of Nigeria, while an MBA is always a useful degree anywhere.

If you like CIPM still, I suggest you do them both, not a bad idea if you wanna master human resources and practice in Nigeria.

CIPM is better.

Do you know, when you contact me, I can help you restructure your business to function without your supervision and maximize profit for just a token

MBA bro, CIPM is an ordinary Nigeria Diploma certification, just a little bit above Secondary School Certificate.

Go for your MBA, that will crown you in any industry you go into and will give you an all round knowledge!

BTW - If you want to go into HR hope age is still on your side, cus you will have to start at square 1 as an intern earning between 40-50k before you now start climbing the career ladder which will take years.

Do the Cipm since you already have MSc. You will only do 1 professional exams and that's all.

Then later you can do your MBA.

Ultimately, target SHRM.. More advance and globally recognized than cipm.
Cipm do lots of extortion and shady dealings.

An MBA is likely to command wider recognition than the CIPM. I also agree with the poster who said you should try some of the more globally recognized HR certifications such as SHRM. Most importantly, however, you need relevant experience to truly be successful as an HR practitioner.

You may also wish to consider some parts of HR that are not often looked at such as Adult and Continuing Education, E-Learning and Instructional design, etc. In many organizations outside Nigeria, these are skills that are under the HR department and are in high demand.

There is nothing wrong with studying for your MBA at NOUN, although you should be familiar with how NOUN works. My video below is a comprehensive explainer based on my time at NOUN.

Since I had from several reliable sources that people buy CIPM certificate and the way candidates complain of their poor handling of their online exams that was when I have loose interest in the certificate.

MBA. CIPM is really nothing compared to an MBA. Besides I don't have CIPM and I have been working in HR. And jobs they post for HR hardly has CIPM as a requirement.
