Events unfolding.
If he decides to continue pls tag me.
Thanks.
I feel he wants the voting to be anonymous and let the business plan speaks for itself.
That is why he didn't post it in the thread to prevent favouritism but since it got posted here.
Oga Snowland have to close the voting to think of a next plan

Re: Family Festive Giveaway by snowland(m): 11:31pm On Dec 14, 2021
I'm going to restart the polling BUT it's going to be OUTSIDE of NAIRALAND, which was my original plan anyways. I see lots of favoritism and vote canvassing going on and if I let it continue, the prize might not go to the deserving.

The fact that someone is popular should not be a factor for winning a contest where quality of purpose is required.
I know none of the contestants but what I know is what the provided. They were all given same resources, time and platform to tell us their plans. If I'm going to vote, I will vote for the plan that makes the most sense and not who I know.

What happens here is a prime example of the political reality of the present Nigeria where man-know-man takes precedence over quality of purpose.
If naija is to be great, we need to eschew politics of padi-padi and embrace progressive politics. What we have in Naija, and right here on Nairaland, is a regressive politics. I'm not ready to be a part to that.

Thank you.

Snowland stated before that he wanted the contestants business ideas to speak for them hence the reason he wanted the voting outside of nairaland. He's trying to eliminate bias and make it a level playing ground for all the contestants but trust nairalanders to frustrate his efforts. Without even declaring the voting open someone already pasted the link here canvassing for votes. Let us be calming down biko

Boss I respect your intentions but you see this bias and popularity of a thing can not be eliminated from this contest. You have done your best so let the voters decide. Like I said earlier its easy to predict the winners of the contest already.

Trying to be perfect? Heck naa. Nothing in life is perfect. Trying to be fair and just?. Absolutely. If I was trying to be perfect, I would have asked for much more detailed plans and voting process wouldn't have been conducted on Nairaland.

And yeah, we are still on it and no end in sight yet.

Since PLAN 1 is currently SUSPENDED, I'll proceed to PLAN 3. Winners will be selected within the next 48 hours.
Let me reiterate the yardstick for qualifying to participate in Plan 3 because so many people failed to read and just thought they can ask to be entered for the plan.

YOU MUST HAVE COMMENTED, SOMEWHERE IN THE THREAD, PROVIDING IDEA ON HOW TO SELECT THE NEEDING FAMILIES.

So, if all you said was asked to be considered and no idea was suggested, no matter how impractical it might be, you are NOT qualified and will NOT be shortlisted.

Thank you.

I personally felt the voting of a thing was unnecessary because you have the ability to choose for yourself who should get the funds after reading their proposals, since they are just four. Besides I saw where some people warned out this bias and canvassing for votes before the polls even started but you ignored them. Unfortunately at this point, you can't uncanvass what has already been canvassed for grin

The voting was necessary because I dont ever want that kind of power to decide who gets what. I believe in people's voice. It's true that I'm providing the fund but that's where my power ends. I could have selected randomly but with that kind of amount, I wanted something more meaningful than random selection.

Yes people pointed out the sentimentality of some of people on here, which I was very much aware of myself, but I wasn't worried about that because my initial intentions was that the voting is NEVER going to take place on NAIRALAND.
But plans changed due to my work schedule and my friends that were staying with me due to the tornado that affected their homes. I had not much time to dedicate to this and I risk not been able to see this through to conclusion on time. The mistake I made was not taking my time and sticking with the original plan of taking the polls out of Nairaland.

Funny how you said you cant uncanvass what had been canvassed. I agree with that but what can also be done is reverse selection, which means selecting the winners from the rear. Maybe the last 2 contestants might actually become the eventual winners after all. Only time will tell.

Meanwhile, I'll get Plan 3 out of the way soon and see where everything goes from there.

I'm glad you've seen clearly yourself the level of sentiment exhibited by our fellow Nigerians. This is just a fraction of what had been happening in Nigeria as a whole. You either know someone (God father) or die trying. The hanky panky on this very giveaway thread as a result of popularity would most likely earned such persons the money. Then what happened to competency, merit, quality? et al. I wouldn't want to sound rude though. Without being told @Snowland, tribalism are somewhat into play to an extent. This is what myself and @byrrand had seen happening from the beginning of this thread. The politics on this very giveaway thread would be so loud had it been you've forged ahead without having a second thought

@Snowland, I'd suggest you take this out of this forum completely. Please don't entertain any form of anonymous messages trying to encourage you to continue the contest on this very platform. If you wouldn't mind, you could take it to people you interact with daily @your end. Tell them to pick from the best to the least business proposal. Those people are neutral without bias. They had no intention canvassing for votes or support for anyone as we've seen here. You could send to friends and family telling them to give you feedback. You could take to other media platforms outside nairaland to get unbiased responses. Even at your place of work, if you aren't working remotely. They could help you chose promising businesses amongst them alongside with your own notion. A final decision can then be taken. You announced the winner and disbursement of funds follows

Competency had flown into thin air the very moment you kickstart this giveaway thread. Sadly, this is the reality of what we've been going through in Nigeria till date. Where people with questionable character takes precedence over integrity. They are best considered to lead the masses provided they got money to throw about. The highest bidder amongst them get the seat. Nigerians placed them so much on a pedestal just because of money. They passed the baton and the cycle continues

In summative, @Snowland please kindly take this out of reach of Nairalanders. The padi-padi is too enormous. The method you'd consider should be completely descret. Thanks!

It is shame that this is the bane of our society. How banal!

Nepotism and tribalism is always dished and nobody is brave enough to reject it's supposed sumptuous offers.

The syndrome of 'man know man' has crippled our system. It is disheartening to narrate that I was a victim of such last week. I was the best qualify for an entry role according to the results placed by the HR. As I was rehearsing my self acclaimed testimony to encourage other believers faith in my church, my joy was short lived when the HR called me and in her calm voice communicated the politrick that has crawled its way into the recruitment process.

I shook my head in dismay and hoped that someday my countrymen/women will see beyond cryonism and favouritism and cast their lot for competency.

@snowland, thank you for having a rejuvenated mindset to pilot this giveaway in such a way we or should I say, I am proud of. It shows some Nigerians aren't corrupt as we posit. wink

It's the way it is in Nigeria where who know man wins.
Even in secondary school this happened all the time.
I read a story of how in one JSS 2 class they wanted to choose a class rep and one of the candidate was very good but the other one won because he brought snacks for the class.
And that's how Nigeria is now which Is not fair because sometimes competent people are taken out of the equation because they are not popular.
Please Oga Snowland I wrote an idea when you told us to write our ideas. It's in page 3 please sir consider me for plan 3

Haha

Some are even saying tribalism
What a joke
Everyone was given the right to vote which we should exercise based on our philosophy

Because our own choice is different from them, they are shouting sentiment. Must we follow their opinion ?
Re: Family Festive Giveaway by Spherical77(m): 9:17am On Dec 15, 2021
@Snowland boss abeg follow exactly what @VTJN said. There's nothing more or less to add. He nailed it completely with his suggestion

This country is so corrupt that every damn thing had to be man- know-man, tribalism, nepotism, sentiment and padi-padi. Some even flawed the Ops rules by sending the anonymous link to the giveaway thread canvassing aggressively for votes for their own person not until Op condemned such act and asked to be deleted. After they would be tagging those in governance being corrupt forgetting we're of no difference

@isiah4Life sorry for your experience. Welcome to Nigeria where na my brother, sister, friends, let's give him/her the offer irrespective of his/her competence

I troway salute for you. You see hehh, the moment I decided breaking this giveaway into three separate plans, I envisaged something like this happening.

While @byrron and some others that I cant remember their names were talking about how some contestants had people canvassing votes for them while other ones had no chance, I knew what was going on. I, at that point, was not worried because I knew the voting wasn't taking place on NAIRALAND. I had other plans to conduct the voting on other media which I didn't declare then and I'm not declaring now either.

But as we all know, man proposes but God disposes. I was hit with so many things occupying my time that if I do not come up with a different plan, this giveaway might linger too long than normal and might not even be concluded in time for the festive season.

So I decided to post anonymously in a section on Nairaland that's less likely to be visited but still get a few traffic here and there. Also, as an average Nigerian no like to read, I thought the section would be a perfect place to hide the post. I even hid their usernames and replaced them with generic names. And for anyone to visit that section, the person must be a reader. What more do I need than for neutral people to read through the plans and select the deserving ones?. It's less work for me and I can quickly conclude this giveaway thing.(so I thought).

It was actually going fine until this guy (I no go mention your name but you know yourself) figured it out and gave a hint on this thread. You see, I no go forgive you oo for bursting my bubbles and exposing my covers cheesy cheesy

So at this point, PLAN 1 has to wait while I decide on what to do. Plan 3 is next to be sorted out and that should be fairly easy. Na computer go pick those ones and computer no dey do ojoro.

Thanks for your suggestions.
