I use figma. Figma is beginner friendly. Oh really, if you've been doing drag and drop, then UI will be an easy breeze for you.

I think I need to change the title of this thread though, UI and UX and two different but inter-twined things. There's no UI without UX, and UX in the long run results to a good UI.

The reason to learn UX first is to know how to design better UI that would suit the user needs. Even good visuals and beautiful designs also contributes to the overall user experience.

I hope I don't confuse you

TechSkill:
Ah, thanks... That means I will jump on UX right away. Thanks. I love the feel and experience of website pages and I have played around building sites with drag and drop for years.

Is it Adobe XD you are using for your UI/UX? or what would you recommend? Please let me know and I will download it at night today.

What do you guys use for your portfolio?

Uhmm...

Whether you are just starting out, or you are an expert in design, it is important you always remember the basics. Always learn go back to the basics from time to time until it becomes a part of you. Many experience designers are fond of just jumping on figma when they see a project without no persona, user flow or all of that, no process. They feel they know it all already. We need to understand the cost of poor design.

Go back to the basics of UX Design from time to time.

For portfolio, I have seen good portfolios built with Webflow, and Webflow has made a free year plan for students of the Google course. If you go to Webflow university, there is a 21 day course on how you can build your portfolio from scratch, just follow the steps. And Webflow is a no code website builder too.

The 3 projects in the course is enough. If you want to include extra, take up personal ones, maybe to solve a problem,...around you or something.

If you've gotten to the second curse, start practicing short figma youtube videos.

I'm an out-of-school student tho grin

So the projects in the course plus the one you did at Genesys helped you get your new job right? And do you use only Behance for now? Someone will still have to buy a domain name when building a real website for a portfolio.

Hmm
I don't have any full projects yet. It's just Insha Allah and vibes. Although, I have personal projects I'm working on which would take some time. But I have a couple of shots on dribbble and behance, and articles too.

I'm not done with Genesys yet. It's still a long way to go.

I have just one mini-case study as an article

You could do case studies as articles too, if you want. The questions are okay, the reason for the thread in the first place

Don't wait for a pc.
Start reading articles, everyone you can find. Go to Medium, uxplanet, uxcel, career foundry, idf. Just read everything now you don't have a pc.

Read books too if you are serious. Things would be easier when you now get a pc

Learn a lot about the Principles of Design before you jump on Figma

And also the basics laws of UX. Very important, even if its only UI you want to do.

Pragnanz, Teslers, Contrast, Getstalt and the likes of them. Arm yourself with this basics and you would fly

Nice one bro. You are very right. I believe one doesn't need a background in Graphics design before moving into UI/UX, you just have to master the principles like Typography, Fonts, White Spacing etc. This Google UX course has taught me a lot, and I'm still on the 3rd out of 7 courses, the Getsalt law was also mentioned in the course, I haven't gotten there though.

There is this e-book written by Michael Filipiuk, check him out on Twitter, it is called Principles of UI design, and it is free too. I'm currently using it to learn as well. How has work been btw?

Hi Emerald. This happens to the lot of us. Glad you started with the LoFi, picking colours won't stress you much.

What you can do now is take a cue from anywhere around you. You can go to dribbble and see how people combine colours, or look at the them of what you are designing and check similar apps.

Another thing you can do is to play safe with just 2 colours, if you can, just 1.

Then, read the Secret Lives of Colours when you have the chance
