Two Things That Could Have Happened If Victor Osimhen Was In The Game Against Egypt.
News Hub Creator

Nigeria played one of their best games on Tuesday, the 11th day of January 2022. The game was against the Pharaohs of Egypt and the Super Eagles got the better of the North African side by 1-0, courtesy of the goal scored by Leicester City's striker, Kelechi Iheanacho.

The Super Eagles had a good game, but there were still some players who were not on top of their game. This now leads to the question, what would have happened if Victor Osimhen was in action against the Pharaohs of Egypt?

Probably, Taiwo Awoniyi played to his best, but his best couldn't have been up to the best of Victor Osimhen of Napoli. Let's take a look at what could have happened if Victor Osimhen played against the Egyptians.

1. The Super Eagles would have scored more goals in that game; Taiwo Awoniyi played well, but he was not pacy enough to connect with Moses Simon, who was always on the run towards the box of the Egyptians. In that game, one of the strengths of the Super Eagles was their solidity in the midfield.

The Eagles were strong in the midfield that the attackers of the Pharaohs of Egypt hardly went pass them. With such performance in the midfield, Victor Osimhen would have scored at least a goal in that game. He is pacy and has good positioning.

2. The defenders of the Pharaohs of Egypt would have been restricted to their box; fear factor is one thing that works in the game of football. There are a couple of strikers who are feared by the defenders, and Victor Osimhen is one of those strikers. His presence on the pitch would have kept the defenders on their toes in that game, this would have given the Super Eagles more opportunities to press them more in their box.

It's really painful that Victor Osimhen couldn't play at this tournament. Do you think Taiwo Awoniyi would possibly replace Victor Osimhen as expected? Let's have your thoughts on this article in the comments' section.
Sir,against Egypt Awoniyi replaced Osimehn perfectly and too early to judge,so let's wait and see him and Sadiq more in our subsequent matches.

Taiwo Awoniyi and Sadiq Umar were 5th and 6th rated CF behind Victor Osimehn,Odion Ighalo,Onuachu,Moffi under Rohr and for the duo to shake off that pressure against Egypt is a plus.

We beat 7 times Afcon winner with Mo Sallah and prior to that match the odds favor Egypt....none here can say it that we are beating Egypt but now Ighalo and Osimehn would have done more just like Sallah did more with Egypt.

Kudos to Eguavoen for the confidence.

Sunday Mba didn't inspire confidence either at Afcon 2013 but he shook the continent. Selah.

Amoo is young and already one of the very best players across the Scandinavian leagues. He is one to keep an eye on.

Aribo is also good to go if we play him there with a DLP (e.g. Nwakali or Alhassan) behind him in Central areas. Iwobi is a decent backup for AM.

@bolded... and is it just now you are realising the bolded? When I was crying out for a MF conductor as one way of solving our MF offensive deficiencies, did you not know I was trying to take the creative burden off our wingers?
This is why I have been analysing our Middle game more than any other department of the team. In here, on twitter and anywhere else.

Having CDMs, a DLP and a modern day Goal scoring #10 is a step closer now. But we still need a genuine AM-playmaker. That is what we lack now. This is why I hope any of Eze, Olise or Noni can be bagged with time or another spring up to fill that hole well, and also an Amoo to keep developing coz he has strong AM qualities.

Hopefully we get there. Let time do its work.

But remember the first line of this post. Yep, that guy didn't inspire confidence at all leading up to that tournament.

So time will tell... until then, enjoy this lad below at this Afcon coz he's not done showing you and I what he can do when giving proper licence to attack the box.

If Nigeria wins this Afcon it would have an electric effect on talented diasporans who are undecided on whether to represent us or their adopted countries.
No matter how blistering a player's club career is, winning tournaments with your country counts a great deal when all is said and done.

no wonder
Under rohr, Moses always plays defensive minded, I was shocked to see him make daring attacking runs against Egypt..

Is it good to allow players roam and do their thing or have a strict instructions to which they must adhere to?
Just give general framework and then let the players operate within it. Black man does not have the mental discipline to play strictly to instructions. When he plays like that, he sacrifices his natural love for flair and creativity.

does it necessarily have to do with the bolded?

Well I think so. Outside football, check out how chaotic we are in every aspect of modern life. It is because as a people we still haven't matured enough to be systematic.

Senegal with their Rohr 2.0 coach are positively playing nonsense.

Guinea have just been lacking quality in key areas, else they would be winning. Not everyone in the team is a Keita or even a Bayo or a Moriba.

They did have. Two of them on the field (Diallo and that their LB, Ciss) but I guess they aren't trusted with setpieces.

And yes ofcos, the bolded is basic knowledge. But we have exceptional cases though. Messi have done it from the left. But ofcos, it's Messi.

TheLoneCitizen:

If they had a left-footed player, they had a better chance because from that position he can go either side of the goalkeeper.

If we move Mahrez's freekick to the left of the 18-yard box, he would have struggled to beat both the wall and keeper.

Lol... I think he still can. We have 5 MFs at this Afcon. Who says Etebo returns and we cannot make it 6 Post-Afcon? Remember we have always been understaffed in the MF. Etebo still has a place, I think but indeed the competition is now fiercer.

Mujtahida:

Bye bye to Etebo. I doubt he can still break into the squad except an injury occurs to Ndidi or Onyeka

Ito is gold. Japan has a proper Baller in him.

Is it not Bongonda that was fighting Onuachu for pen grin

I love Ito's style. Proper, proper winger and the guy is actually a good finisher just very unselfish . I think every striker would want someone like him off their side.

Games go reach like 50 from now till then.

Taiwo Awoniyi is yet to become the player that can replace Victor Osimhen.

I will like to see what the pairing of Sadiq Umar and Iheanacho can produce.
These guys are great at creating scoring chances.

How Guinea didn't go one nil up from that sweet counter attacking move still shocks me. I felt Moriba should have gone for a top strike after Keita did well to cut in from the right and square it. Or he could have fed Bayo to his left.

Anyhow shaa, Moriba still did okay picking out the incoming Morgan (#10) but Morgan should have done much better with it.

And yes, Ejuke should watch that and learn. Like I already opined, I trust he will learn. Give it time my learned one. wink I know that missed big chance still dey pain you. grin

Mujtahida:
Shey you guys saw this counter by Guinea and how the guy on the go squared for his team mate. It did not result into a goal but the unselfish play is commendable unlike our bros Ejuke who wants all the accolades for himself.

It's shocking to most African football followers but looking at Guinea's Midfield, I am not so surprised. Guinea has clearly been the better side.

My only fear for Guinea in this game is they aren't clinical enough and Senegal has a Mane who is deadly and is waiting for just a half chance to do damage.

Game is interesting. Let's see how things things end.

It took osimhen games to even get his first goal and to replace ighalo

You cannot say taiwo awoniyi is yet to become the player after just 1 start of quality minutes

Taiwo played and did well ,but you want sadiq umar to come in .

In this second half, the tide has changed a bit though. Senegal have had the better chances and the better possession. They have fought their way back a bit but this game is one that could still go either way.

The entrance of Habib Diallo makes it 3 predators waiting to pounce for Senegal. Diallo, Dia and Mane.

Guinea still has their threat in Bayo. The Clermont-Foot Ligue 1 sensation.

Looking like an Okra soup ending to this but there's still like 8mins + added time.

Cheif, You mean Taiwo replaced Osimhen perfectly?

Awoniyi won only 1 ground duel out of 8.
1 aerial duel out of 8.
0 dribbles.
0 key passes.

In which area of play was he a perfect replacement.

I will commend Awoniyi's movements and pressing, but he is still not on Osimhen's level.
Osimhen owns the physicality (speed, strength and stamina) and the tactics (intelligence).
If you can remember his somehow diagonal press against Cape Verde. He reads his opponents well

If you didn't use the word perfect, i would have ignored.

Fun Facts: Afcon 2021

Senegal 0-0 Guinea is the 3rd goalless scoreline of this Afcon. The other two games involved another top favorite in Algeria and ofcos two of our group oppositions, Sudan and Guinea Bissau.

Senegal has recorded only 5 shots on target in their 2 games so far at the Afcon. They have faced Zimbabwe and Guinea.

Nigeria recorded 5 Shots on target against an African powerhouse in Egypt.

Chriskels' second In-laws still top favorites? Time will tell.
