THE Kwara Muslim Stakeholders’ Forum and the Christian Association of Nigeria in the state have disagreed over an acceptable way to resolve the unending controversy over the use of the Hijab by Muslim female pupils in state missionary schools.

The two groups, at separate press conferences in Ilorin, the state capital; and Ijagbo, the epicenter of the recent crisis, blamed the government for its failure to implement the agreement reached in April 2021 on the resolution of the crisis.

Recall that one person died during a protest over the use of the Hijab at Oyun Baptist High School, Ijagbo, on Thursday while about 11 others sustained gunshot injuries.

The Kwara State Government shut down the college indefinitely as a result of the crisis.

But the two religious bodies called on the government to institute a high-powered commission of inquiry to unravel the masterminds behind the violence in Ijagbo.

Speaking on behalf of the Muslim Stakeholders’ Forum, its Chairman, Alhaji Isiaq Abdulkareem, alleged that some Muslim parents who were staging a protest to enforce the fundamental rights of their children were attacked by the Christians outside the gate of the school.

“About three weeks ago, Muslim female pupils were sent back by some members of the Christian Association of Nigeria and yesterday, some Muslim parents followed their children to the school to enforce their fundamental rights and while the peaceful protest was going on, some Christians attacked them and one of the parents of the Muslim pupils of the school, Habeeb Idris, was killed during the fracas that also left 11 parents injured.”

He suggested that the government should fully take over all grant-aided mission schools and enforce its policy on the wearing of the hijab by female Muslim students in all government grant-aided secondary schools.

But in his address, Reverend Samuel Ajayi who spoke on behalf of CAN at Ijagbo alleged that some Muslim fundamentalists were going around the local government areas to instigate other Muslims on the use of the hijab in missionary schools in the state.

Ajayi, who said that CAN had an MoU with the state government since June 2021 on the resolution of the hijab crisis which had not been implemented by the government, however, said, “It has been said times without number that we cannot and will not allow the use of the hijab in our missionary schools.

“The schools were not taken over by the state government in 1974. There was an agreement between the government and the school proprietors. Each has their own part to play in the running of the schools.”

Adherents of the religion of peace always causing chaos, violence and bloodshed @ every slight opportunity. Same hijab a lots of Islamic nations are now banning because of terrorism?

The case of International School University of Ibadan is still fresh.Imagine it was a Catholic Nun that insist on wearing her veil to an Islamic missionary school.

Please send your wards to your - faith based schools and stop all these senseless religious wars. Missionary schools came with their code of conduct even if govt took them over or released them back to their original owners. This can never be changed.

If the school is state owned it falls under state laws and regulations. It's private it has the latitude to make its own dress codes. People don't need to coexist in the same spaces go to your own.

Muslims should take their hijab-wearing children to muslim schools and stop disturbing the peace of Kwara. If you must attend christian schools, you must adhere to christian principle. You cannot go to Saudi Arabia and tell them to allow you slaughter pigs, nor go to Canada and stop them from eating pork.

There is nothing like state owned. How can Baptist School be state owned? Wherewere the muslims when christians were building school? You call them sheepies and later want to benefit from 'sheepies' labour.. Is Ansarudeen state owned?

The state government claimed it was in one article I read. The probably took it over at some point. If it's private its fine people need to learn to respect propety rights in this country. Most of these so called crisis occur because they want forced integration.

“The Kwara State Government totally condemns the resort to violence in the government-owned Oyun Baptist Secondary School, Ijagbo, on Thursday. This is totally unacceptable.

“The Kwara State Government unreservedly condemns the flagrant act of discrimination against anyone, especially children, on religious grounds. Such discrimination will not be tolerated in any public-owned institution in the state.

I stopped reading when i read that Muslims were staging a " Peaceful protest". Peace is a alien to Muslims.

Africans should be ashamed of themselves for fighting amongst each other because of these
foreign religions. Our ancestors must really be rolling in their graves.

There's nothing to talk about. Muslims can't wear hijab in a Christian school...end of story.

Why not void this agreement foregoing state funding in order to keep your autonomy? Most of these issues arose because the school got in bed with the devil. Keep the government out of your affairs whenever possible. Option 2 is going to court showing how the government is violating the agreement. Everything's a crisis in this country because they dont permanent resolutions.
