Inflation as a result of corruption!! The politicians steal more and spend more, people see more money and opulence as a result and raise prices to grab a share of the largesse, which means the politicians need to steal even more to make ends meet, and so it goes on and on.

Fela said it before "Every time he nearly buy the fan, govt go add N10 more, Na im my friend come understand im life, enjoyment can never come im way!"

In Nigeria there is no price regulation on commodities,if by 2023 we hand power over to the same Northerns, then by 2030 the least bread will be sold for N500 and the least self contain you can get in lagos, might have jacked up to N400k.
Funny enough, most graduate will still be earning N20k or thereabout, then yahoo yahoo/ritual will increase and the level of prostitution/runz will skyrocket and by 2040 every runz girl will get married to a ritualist (non negotiable)

Nigeria sinks at every cockcrow

Its a simple case of demand and supply..hold your lawmakers accountable, once there are right infrastructures like intercity trains, high concentration of investments in rural areas( which can be achieved by good security and tax incentives), good road network in and out of rural undeveloped areas, high demand for houses in cities will automatically decline cos its easy for people to buy or rent their own house cheaply in rural areas and take public transport to the city for work, case in study is lagos ibadan train... a lot of folks live in ibadan now and work in lagos, by the time the blue light rail begins operation in lagos there will be a lil decongestion.
You cant force landlords to reduce rent cos its a private property built by private funds which was used to buy building materials at exorbitant prices caused by your clueless government..so nothing like endhighrent here..

No matter the excuses you give, you can't deny that many of these houses are overpriced, even the new ones.

Blaming the government for everything will not solve issues that are caused by the masses themselves.

I don’t know your definition of upgrade, but I didn’t ask you to go changing his roof and all. I was referring to fixtures. The only permanent thing should be the paint.

How can a person have over 300,000 Naira and still can’t afford any descent house? How did we get here?

The first time I moved out of my parents house In 2018 I literally rented a house for 40,000 naira a year, and it was a room self contain in delta.

Today there is no single room self contain below 200-250,000 naira, and that’s even the ones in rural areas, anyone in town is from 300k and above, and yes just a room !!! Wtf is happening?

I’m so worried about Nigerians, am I the only one facing these issues or is every one so rich they can easily pay 300k for a damm single room apartment

My brother you are not the only one oh. The main problem still falls to bad leaders. I was in Cotonou in 2019, so I decided to rent a room and parlour self contain, which is our normal self contain here in Nigeria. The surprising thing is that, I only paid 3months rent for the start and an extra 1month rent for agent, with a renewer option of 1month payment after the end of the first 3months, and the landlord do not have right to charge you more than 1month renewal unless it’s an agreement from both of you that you feels like paying ahead. The thing that shock me the most is when the landlord told me that, before moving in I have to buy unit for my meter, that its my right since the government has already made provision for 24 hours power supply. So if not for our politicians that chooses to be wicked to their citizens, I don’t see in any way Benin republic can be better than us Nigerians in terms of basic amenities. It’s really painful shai, seeing all this with no possibility of it getting better soon.

You are not the only one. I have 800k yet I haven't been able to get a 2br in Lagos for almost 2 years. They keep showing me boys quarters or uncompleted flats. The worst is the agent and agreement fees keep increasing. Now they are calling 130k for both. Nigeria is just getting worse by the day and the there is no hope of it ever getting better. I can't wait to leave this useless place.

It depends on the area. N800K should get you a two bed.

All thanks to your yahoo Yahoo friends whom you admire and want to be like.

I rented an office but because I look young my landlord thought he has seen a yahooboy he can extort. Imagine after moving in the fool came telling me that the paint I met I will pay for it, I just told him " baba this little conversation is over and until my rent expires we have nothing to discuss ever again".

I love the response you have him.

I think necessary action should be taken by appropriate authority to save the masses. My rent expire December and my landlord gave January to pack. I can't find a place affordable for me.give me two weeks more the man is dragging me to court

How did you pay your rent ? Monthly ? If no then look at the notice to quit if it isnt either 3 or 6 months then let him take you to court but if your tenancy agreement is for a FIXED TERM then theres nothing you can do really.

Okay, so what should he do? Reduce the rent, I guess.

If the country's economy was stable, 10% increment is the right call as the property appreciates. The economy is not stable; most landlords are just trying to meet up with the current state of the economy. Even after the increment by 50%, it will only get him the value of what 1m used to, or less.

As long as the landlords are not buying building materials yearly to renovate the buildings they are taking tents from, its greed and wickedness to increase rent by 50% yearly. Even 10% yearly is bad.

A vicious circle, the same excuse the landlords are making isn't different from what others in different industry are making

To what end?

Bros, there are several estates in Abj but too costly that ppl can't afford them oh! It's not about building estates oh but the price.
Estate that the masses cannot afford is as good as nothing. I am talking about the government deciding to build massive estates that are towns on their own and putting a rent even the lowest level civil servant can afford. That is the type of housing I am talking about not luxury real estate. Government can even use housing estates construction to employ large population of Nigerians. It is what the Chinese government is doing.

this is the number one problem with Nigerians.
you put all the responsibility on a deity when you choose to do nothing about your situation. Even all the prophets called God and still fought and spoke out but here we want someone in the sky to say abracadabra and house rent will become one naira. WE ARE THE PROBLEM.
sorry. I am talking about EVERY NIGERIAN and not just you.

God will not do anything about it if we that are here feeling the heat refuse to speak up and force our representatives in the house and senate to speak and address such matters but we have time to debate on BBN and spend billions on BBN votes. God will do NOTHING about it. God has more important things to do in countries with natural disaster and war.

The day Nigerians will stop this "Only GOD fit Help us and Na God go judge our politicians mentality", and start speaking and acting against injustice, 50% of our problem as a nation will be solved.

for every 1bn stolen by politicians, 2bn has been shared by civil servants.

No government money can go to the politicians without passing through civil servants.
