It will be an injustice to the suspect if his case is not properly heard. The law is an ass, but we have read stories of innocent people being sentenced to jail, only for someone to come up with evidence that causes the case to be revisited, and the innocent person freed.

And the one I consider the saddest was the case of Walter Forbes who served almost 40 years for arson and murder which he did not commit. A woman lied that he was one of those who committed the arson that got someone killed. The saddest part was that Walter forgave the woman, and even described her as a victim herself.

If you check, all of these miscarriages of justice happened in the United States, not a developing country. It is a pointer to the fact that police all over the world torture suspects to confess to crimes they did not commit, especially when the police are under much pressure from the public or affected family.

It is also provides the need for cases to be properly attended to, and every angle and evidence heard.

You can't blame the court for deciding to consider the angle of confession by duress. We all know that police use torture to make suspects admit to a crime. They might even plant evidence in the suspect's house to get a case over with.

May God help us.

The real injustice would be to sentence the suspect without hearing the case properly. He is after all, still a suspect. He deserves a fair hearing.
