Thank God for your testimony.

What you had 6 years ago was acute kidney injury which may be caused by many conditions such as indiscriminately used of medications/herbs, profuse vomiting or diarrhea, acute infection, toxins, sudden rise in blood pressure, etc.

Unlike chronic kidney disease that is not reversible, acute kidney injury is reversible but could be a risk factor for developing chronic kidney disease like in life.

How can you prevent this?

Stay hydrated with clean water all the time, avoid taking unprescribed medications, avoid herbal remedies, exercise regularly, treat hypertension /diabetes / chronic infections (Hepatitis B/C/HIV) if you have any, stop or cut down alcohol, avoid cigarettes, see a good doctor when you are sick, stay hydrated if you are losing body fluid(vomiting, diarrhea, unusual passage of large volume of urine, bleeding), good antenatal care etc..

Cheers

You are absolutely correct

Glory be to GOD Almighty! I received intensive care and treatment at LUTH and I was placed on hemodialysis and given several blood transfusion and later was placed on blood boosting medication. Last time I had dialysis was in March 2016 and I have been freed from dialysis and I am now able to do things that I love doing and also resumed back to work before the end of that same year. Initially i lost hopes and I thought that I was going to die simply because my case was very severe and my blood pressure was very high, blood sugar levels was low, creatinine level was very high, BUN (blood urea Nitrogen) level was very high, PCV ( Percentage of Cell Volume) was extremely low, but Thank GOD for my life today. I didn't do a transplant but I took caution, i listened to the health workers, i avoid some certain foods, i adopted a new lifestyle, i do adequate medical check-up, takes my medication accordingly and completely avoid self medication.

What you have is CHRONIC kidney disease, no ACUTE kidney failure/INJURY.
Remian safe, do the right things AND hopefully you don't need dialysis anytime soon.

I feel so happy and refreshed reading your testimony. I think medical personnel should mention cases where people survive these 'terminal diseases' that are terminal because of our perception of local healthcare and lack of funds.

Our insurance system also need to be revamped. I don't think there is any insurance scheme that pays for these terminal diseases

I don't think there's any in this country and if there's, it's going to a big deal you get it..

See how some people are faulting herbal medicine. Just because you got it right through the Orthodox medicine does not render other medicine useless. Are there no people who have died relying on the same medicines?

I can't condemn or fault herbal medicine but in the case of kidney disease one must avoid it including some certain foods and drinks.

What is causing the prevalent kidney failure could be more than alcohol. They should scrutinize those northern chemical laden foods people are eating. Nigeria is a country in the dark and very much on the verge of extinction. The system lacks basic knowledge and intelligence that people need to thrive and survive.

You are very correct. Just today I bought oha leave from the market, I chose it myself because it looks fresh than the rest. It was tighten into the nylon with other ingredients. When I decided to select the leave and brought it out of the nylon, the leaves were brown and looks rottened, I thought of possible cause, the only thing I could come up with is that it was made fresh by some kind of chemical which makes it attractive before buying it. What if I got home earlier and cooked it and ate it.

what caused your kidney problem? how many times were you on dialysis ?
i thought once you are on dialysis, it is for life !

Anaemia i think. I got two sessions of dialysis. Although I was advised to come for another one after my second dialysis but there was no fund to pay then but I tried as much to quit salt intake immediately and avoid foods that will cause more waste build up in my blood so as to avoid dialysis. Anyone can completely come out of dialysis depending on the stage of the kidney damage or filtration rate.

Hello! Your advise should be taken serious however, where you talked about taken herbal remedies, can you be more explicit about that? In my house, we got bitter leafs planted and we use it alot of times. In fact what we do is, once in every week at weekend, we are always takes the juice ( bitter leafs + water's extraction). Doing so, we don't fall sick in fact I'm going to Three years now without paracetamol talk of any other drugs but ZERO SUGAR, ZERO ALCOHOL. NO SOFT DRINKS, NO ENERGY DRINK, OFF ORORO ( replaced with palm oil ), fry food once in a month. ZERO FAST AND JUNKIE FOOD. But now with what you just said. Is that safe? ( The juice)

You are safe provided you are balancing your diet but sincerely renal patient must avoid herb because it contains chemical and minerals which the damaged kidney might not be able to eliminate from the body. I'm not faulting Herb tho just my pure advise and don't forget that I'm not a health worker or medical doctor but just an experienced fellow.

Don't thank God.

Thank science and just a little beat of efficiency and expertise that we see in Nigeria (most of the time it is in our healthcare sector).

They saved your life!
And who is behind science? Behind all this beautiful earth you live on ? Perhaps you could have just found yourself in Mars or some other planets if you think all these things ain’t be controlled by God.
