Some of the IYC goons in Bonny tried converting a popular Igbo masquerade's title from Ekwemma to Ekwema to slowly ijawnize the name but the youths resisted grin grin grin.
The youths instead redesigned the name to fully express its Igbo heritage. They wrote the name this way instead : Ekwe-mma lollllllll grin grin grin grin grin Let's be honest, many Bonny youths are Igbo lovers grin grin grin grin

That's how Ijaw towns are named. But Igbo towns have a dominant Ma suffix in their town names too. So automatically your position is debatable.
In Igbo case it's mostly a prefix.

Okwema to Okwemma..I was one of the early people that brought attention of Bonny people to the Ijawnization of that name..Ijaw people started claiming it originated from Bayelsa already..that it is not Okwemma but Okwema..It took the intervention of the admin of the post to really confirm that it originated from Igbo.

Alabo7978 you can do a thorough work on the Oru-Igbo and Ijo connection.I'll do same.

Your hypothesis may be correct considering the typical Ijo migration pattern.

Who knows if the original occupants of Onitsha and some riverine communities in Imo are Ijos.It will be fantastic to know. With their fixation on Ijo history, Igboid, Slayerforever and other goons might have Ijo connection sef

Alua, nua, etc, are Igbo greetings Ijaw copied.
These greetings are used as far as Nsukka at the border of Igbo and Igala.
And the Ika at the border of Igbo and Bini/Esan.

They have nothing to do with Ijaws, rather the Ijaws copied them from their Oru/Olu Igbo neighbors, some of who they have assimilated and Ijawnized.

Anyone that grew up in Enugu in the early 2000s will know of a radio program on ESBS Enugu by Nsukka people called "Nsukka Alua".

To be honest. I dispute this history, As a Izon man, it is contrary to what I know and also contrary to two other accounts of the ancestry of the Ijaw people.
There were different migration patterns.
Some people also came from iselema-warri, some Benin. One particular people didn't form the ijaw Nation, so there is every pointer that we had a batch from Egypt.

But feel free to tell me the one you buy.

Vikings had great blacksmiths, arts, philosophies and conquered vast territories and also kings on lands. Vikings were not doing rudimentary Stoneage fishing. There were Igbo kingdoms that were famed for their ability on the waters. Laird and Oldfield in the 1830s commented on the commercial and agricultural power of the Igbos in the Rivers.
Again, in those days, those creeks were less desired and almost inhabitable. That is why the population of the creeks are still scanty even today.

And for this topic, if you added a reference and compare arts and archaeology, it will help your hypothesis further.

Did the Ijaws migrate through the Nile River? How did they jump all the way from Egypt straight to the southernmost tips of Western Africa? If i am to guess, the Ijaws were more from the West, from around Sierra-Leone. They have similar culture to the Kru people.

There is a textbook written about the Yorubas linking them to ancient Egypt. The author made a compelling submission by comparing Yoruba old arts with ancient Egyptian arts. A very compelling book. However, I read this book in a library like 7 years ago and I do not know if they have an electronic version and I cannot remember the name of the book exactly.
When I see it, I will recommend that you pursue this comparison system to find answers, it will somewhat solidify your postulations.

The first BOLDED part very rightly explains why the creeks belonged to the ijaws alone, it was very undesirable for habitation due to the disease and death in it. That was why we had to use our trading canoes to go upstream to azumini blue river(the center of commerce then) to batter our salt, dried fish, perriwinkles, snails etc for yams, oil, maize.
We also traded with the Benins who like the hinterlands didn't see any good in coming down to the creeks. It was during the palm oil trade that things changed.
You just said exactly what I've been saying all along.

They didn't jump.
Those days, there were navigable route to even Arabia from Nigeria, so there was a long hike through trading route. They were most probably fleeing an invasion.

The sierraleonean kru are too small to have had ijaws come from there.
The kru people you know were fishermen who got lost during fishing expedition, I also had a cousin who got lost one early morning back from fishing, he was returning from camp and the fog was too much and when it cleared, he found himself at Kula.
Ijaw men who go on long fishing expedition on the coast get lost, some never came back again and it is a well known tale from those days.

The comparison with the Vikings were based on commanding a water vessel, and yes I know of that book by the Yoruba guy. In one page he made mention of the ijaws too.
I could research and write a thesis on it but that's not my calling.

I don't think the Krus are too small to have given birth to Ijaws when we think about it.
Krus number just about 1.1million people which is just about same population of real Ijaw of 4 LGAs in Bayelsa State and few more in Delta State.

Please there were never a navigable route from Nigeria to Arabia by sea or any water body at any point in time in history.

Ijaws are obviously late migrants to the South of the Igbo and Ibibio country from Western (Sierra Leone, Liberia, Togo, Ghana) direction.

Maybe your stupidity is not yet cleared because you still call the place "Kalabari" which is a corrupted form of "New Calabar".
