W.H.A.T 2 da WHAT!huh shocked
“Puff-puff should taste good even without sugar”?
Do you know what you’re saying? cheesy
What is puffpuff without sugar? It would turn out like that “eba thick” you were talking about!
That should not even be classified as puffpuff.

Sugar is what gives puffpuff its red color and moisture.
Heck to the no! undecided

Puff-puff shouldn't be about the sugar. And no, without sugar it shouldn't turn out eba-thick abeg. undecided

The focus shouldn't be on color but on the crunchiness of it.

It shouldn’t be about sugar?
What should it be about then? Salt?
You do realize there’s no major ingredient in puffpuff, apart from sugar?
I mean, puffpuff is basically plain dough without sugar. cheesy

Crunch? Are we talking about buns? Kobo simi jare. cheesy

Yes, there is crunch to puff-puff. Abi you have been eating instead the eba-thick mess I am complaining about? undecided

Sugar, is yes, an ingredient but the puff-puff isn't about sugar. You can make puff-puff even without all that sugar and instead - have the eater pour it on as they desire. We do that that time to.time here. undecided

And no, I don't even do that Nigerian buns at all. undecided

I don't think so.
Puff puff uses yeast, and chin chin uses baking powder. I want to believe the stretchiness you get from already fried puff puff comes from yeast, just as you'll have doughnut.

Buns on the other hand is what I'll say feels same with chin chin. You can even use same ingredients for buns to make chin chin. Difference is like you wrote, a soft dough, and the other, a firmer dough. And then you can only fry buns, while you can bake or fry chin chin.
Lol I meant to say buns and chin chin. I see my typos now. It’s cause we were talking about puff puff too grin

I think :-

flour, much sugar, yeast etc = puff puff

Flour, small sugar, baking powder etc = bun

I will still try the other way (yeast less puff) Mariangeles posted.

Also try making puff-puff with yeast, only adding to it as much sugar as you would when making buns, and tell us if that does not make puff-puff abeg. undecided

The only thing I eat when I crave Niaja style bun is
Krispy cream glaze sour cream. Taste and texture - like buns but sweeter. Even some 'donut holes' cover for buns too cheesy

And rather than puffy, the original glazed donut

My mama buy buns... come home give my siblings chop. I wanted my siblings to enjoy the treat so I let them have it all. Next thing you know their faces were swollen from the Mumps. I was dumbfounded. lipsrsealed

2 of them came down with what seemed like a case of mumps that day. Luckily it was gone in less than 48hours later. To this day, no one knows if was due to allergy or for real, the virus. undecided

I know but i wish I didn't fall for that nonsense as a kid and loved candy and all other sugary treats like other kids did. Maybe I would have turned out without this much aversion to sugar.. undecided

So many adult treats oversugared for me these days. Before I eat a cupcake or cake, I first scrape off all the extra sugary nonsense before biting down so as not to offend me tastebuds. undecided
