Never in this lifetime, compare the US and Russia in terms of military assessment or even more likely a war breakout.

I'm not a US sheepie nor a Putin hater, but let me I'm categorically telling you now, no country on the face of this earth stands a chance against the US. Even the Nato countries plus Russian and Chinese Forces won't match.

Not directly as the USA vs the USSR

There are answers mentioning the cuban missile crisis, U2 spy plane and even vietnam however I disagree.

Cuban missile crisis was *mostly* a standoff and not a real battle.

U2 spy plane is just a classic case of spy mission gone bad and as involvement was denied, strong retaliation other than counter-reconnaissance would have caused public defacement.

Vietnam along with all other wars in the cold war is a classic case of two bosses sending their “minions" against each other.

The Vietnam war was between north and south Vietnam however there were American forces in Vietnam in fact the Americans had such a presence that many saw it as a war between USA and north Vietnam on the side of north vietnam however there were a lot if soldiers and especially resources from the USSR.

The same happened with korea and a lot of these wars.

So yeah remember that the cold war is an ideological conflict wherein the Capitalist West under the leadership of USA fought against communist East under leadership of Ussr.

So the countries in the Western “free world" fought against the communist satellite states to limit the spread of communism and the communist satellite states fought to spread communism.

In conclusion no USA and USSR never directly fought as the USA vs the USSR, but they also did in that their soldiers faced each other in the ranks of the military forces representing their respective ideals.

I stand to be corrected but I think the EU is the deadliest coalition n US cannot defeat them, Germany in it's prime will b very tough to crack, Germany spends little or nothing in it's military budget just the same with all these EU nations which Donald trump had an issue with, they use the US as their military police n they r also very tricky,a sniff of war with the US and watch how these countries will go into mass production of military hardware n seizure of US bases abroad n no fly zone for US military aircraft, believe me the US can't win that war.
Also remember any war the US involves itself with, it always find a way to get the support of the EU claiming strategic partners by so doing the US has the EU watching their back when they embark on such wars

I read someone here claiming the US has 12 carriers,which truthfully is an advantage but remember during world war 2, Germany was faced with the wrath of the worlds navy but sank more than 70 percent of it's enemies war ships using just the submarine,thou US carriers have state of the art self defence mechanisms but it's big n an easy target on the sea, it can't sustain for long a barrage of missile n torpedo strikes, IT WILL BE SUNK INTO THE BOTTOM OF THE OCEAN, thats why the US always have a fleet of destroyers n fighter jets guiding it

The US is protected by the oceans by its wings which gives it an advantage but such can be neutralized by invading mexico Cuba n island nations like Hawaii n carribean islands scattered on its waters,bases can be created on many of such islands and military assults initiated from there.
When your time as a world power is up you step aside for the next world power to take over because even then mother nature will be working against you but till then the US presently remains the world power
