Don't be happy about this news. The reason the west is doing all they can to crumble Russia economy is because they want to push Russia to retaliate with nuke. The west want this conflict to lead to world war. But it seems that you and other western zombies won't realize Who your true enemy is till your last moment.

Reading a lot of comments here does indicate that there is a lot of shallow reasoning amongst my fellow Nigerians when it comes to International issues.

A lot of persons on this forum are pro UK/US and well that's fine. Especially when you consider the fact that those are the countries they wish to emigrate to, and they have been heavily influenced by their way of life as aggressively promoted by their TV and film media.

Not to digress on the OP's post, I do NOT ever recall the Russians saying that they were "Sanctions proof". What they did say was that they had built a "fortress economy" which will be resistant to collapse as envisaged by the Western powers. They also stated that no matter the sanctions levied on them, they wouldn't budge on their security concerns.

I read a lot of Russian media and also follow the actions that their government has been taking with regards to measures to reduce the impact of the sanctions and ensure that the economy continues to function.

What you are currently seeing is a market induced "supply-demand" crisis, as major imports routes of goods, investments and funds into the economy has been frozen all at once and about 60% of the foreign currency reserves which will have cushioned the effect of the loss of the above inflows have also been frozen. So for the next 3 - 6 months, the economy will be in crisis mode but gradually things will begin to normalize as they develop alternative markets and sources of capital.

One important factor that people fail to realize is that Russia is self-sufficient in the area of resources, food, power, security and for majority of the items imported from the west, they have their own analogues. An example is in the area of computers - few do realize that Russia manufactures it own computers (Elbrus - which are military grade) and they don't run on Integrated Circuits (chips), but rather on Quartz crystals which make it bulky as compared to the more marketable slims computers from Japan/US, but in terms of resistance to EMPs, ruggedity and redundance they are much more better than the HPs, Dells and Toshibas.

Russian economy from Soviet times, has also been focused on three key areas - Military and Military use products, Space and Aircraft Manufacturing and Extractive industries (Oil & Gas). However, they have been weak on consumer oriented products and technologies. This is where they are going to pour in their efforts to really become independent from the West.

Things will be very tough, but once they can pull through, it is bye bye to all those companies that have imposed sanctions and there is no more "Russian market" for them ever again.

Russia’s ruling party, United Russia, said on Wednesday that a government commission had approved the first step towards nationalizing assets of foreign firms that leave the country in the wake of economic sanctions over Ukraine.

United Russia added in a statement on the Telegram messaging app that the commission on lawmaking activity had supported a bill allowing for firms more than 25% owned by foreigners from “unfriendly states” to be put into external administration.

“This will prevent bankruptcy and save jobs,” it said.

Corporate actions to censure Russia over its invasion of Ukraine vary widely, with some firms like US carmaker Ford temporarily shutting down factories but others like British energy company BP promising to exit the country.

United Russia said according to the proposed bill companies who had announced they were leaving Russia could refuse to go into administration if within five days they resumed activities or sold shares, providing that the business and employees remained.

Otherwise, a court would appoint a temporary administration for three months, after which the shares of the new organization would be put up for auction and the old one would be liquidated, it added.

Venezuela is the most belligerent country in the western hemisphere not to have succumbed to western imperialism. Venezuela has the largest crude oil reserve in the world and their biggest sin is standing on their grounds not sell oil in $$$$ except in Gold, and today the Almighty Uncle Thomas is begging Caracas to export more crude oil to the market (secretly and behind the scenes). Our GEN Z think life begins and ends with USA.

life is not that straightforward.
NATO was form as a military alliance against USSR. after successfully destroying the USSR, they're now coming for the break away components of the USSR. Why do you think they're doing that? the mother component the former USSR will not watch on to see her children romancing with the organization that was formed against her.

The West knew that Russia would react that's why they pushed Ukraine on and still pushing them on. They are not sanctioning Russia because they care about Ukraine. They've planned it all along and this is an opportunity to try and destroy Russia - and Ukraine as well. Watch! After this war, Ukraine will be abandoned

One imperialist didn't give everybody a choice. The world was for a first time in while United in the fight against CoViD, then all of a sudden someone decided to invade a sovereign nation.
That action doesn't give others much of a choice other than to condemn it in the strongest way possible.

would Russia have been sanctioned if it didn't invade Ukraine?
or should everybody keep quiet and let them do as they please?

what's your POV exactly?

Putin has a clear option to negotiate bt is giving orders rather than negotiation.

I told people sanctions have levels some were saying abacha government survived US sanctions.

They forget that was a different era and those sanctions were minimal.

Russia’s economy cannot survive this. It will crash completely in a matter months.

Their oligarch and top military will be embroider in serious war crime cases and Russia would have been worse than Zimbabwe by then.
