How did you arrive at entry prices pls ?
I scan for the stock maximum level in d current year and discount max %drawdown from last year's chart.

Example: if a stock maximum was to be #5 in d present year and previous year max %dd was let's say 20%.

Then, I do #5 * (1-0.2) = #4
And of course, tracking, scanning and calculating by hand will be cumbersome. Python comes to d rescue.

Because d maximum changes as stocks hit higher highs d chart is also subject to change. Like I said, it is only a rough estimate.

Another one I noticed is also the posting of long posts (sometimes multiple times) without much essential information to quickly take the forum to a new page as well. If you check the old pages you can verify what am saying on both occasions. It’s actually obvious to confirm huh undecided

Good Morning All, New to this thread. What will you advise someone with 3,500,000 to buy for a Long term outlook if these were the options?
ACCESS GTCO UBA ZENITH WAPCO DANSUGAR
FLOURMILL NASCON GUINNESS
Thanks!
My opinion:
Pick 2 out of the first 4.
Not that others aren't good or have their time, but that's just the opinion for now. smiley
Also have it in plan to be buying more in case there's fall in share price.....
The First four banking stocks are dividend paying stocks .......and they pay dividends twice a year........think these are good enough for long term outlook.

@pa elder Emma,
Many thanks for your feedback and suggestions, I'm currently with my brother, we worked up his dividends in 2021 financial year, total dividends earned was N3,433,221. Compared with my portfolio that earned N9,770,127.55k, as at November 2021, my portfolio was N96.7M, I made additional investments in Dangote cement and MTNN from December 2021 to February 2022.
The issue at hand now is that he does not want to rebalance at a loss and buying blue chip stocks at the current exorbitant prices.
He agreed to reduce the portfolio to maximum of 30 equities.
Also agreed to retain the stocks that mirror my portfolio, while disposing 43 that are the worst of the 73 stocks in his portfolio.
Also plan to invests all dividends of year 2022 in a fixed income assets.
He is seeking the expertise of a professional who can rebalance his portfolio at a cost.
Please if you know any1, kindly share your email on this platform for further discussion.
I do not have the knowledge to rebalance my brother portfolio, kind of giving me headache.
I recommend a professional stock guru/investor to do the task. Pls if you are available, you are needed.
Brokerage statement and current cscs statement will be made available
Goodmorning please were you able to get a firm or individual to rebalance your brothers stock portfolio?

......or quoting long posts to say only ”thank you", or "yes" .,.......can be very annoying scrolling thru a page to see quoted long posts with meaningless comment at the end of it. grin
We've discussed about this in the past as well, that we can save people the stress/time as well as save pages for more meaningful discussions.
We can easily click "Share" on such posts, or "Like" it or simply mention the person's moniker to refer to such info. tongue

I get the feeling that @ STERLING BANK Nig, and @ WEMA BANK Nig are likely going to follow through with a merger and/or acquisition.

2 things;

• It's either they are merged or acquired by a bigger lender (I suspect 3 other banks)
OR
• They both merge to form a bigger banking entity.

My extensive analysis of their last spate of financial print (YE 2020 >> to last report in view) and the recent happenings within both banks strengthens my belief.

It is well.
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by onegentleguy: 4:00pm On Mar 11, 2022
onegentleguy:
There has been a reoccurance of mergers/aquisation or takeover/buyout and follow-up delisting of some quoted companies on the NSE bourse.
Over the yrs, the likes of NBC, BAGCO, IHS, CAPPA & D'ALBERTO, OASIS INSURANCE, CRUSADER INSURANCE, 7-UP, ASHAKA CEMENT, AVON CROWN CAPS, DIAMOND BANK, NEWREST ASL, DANGOTE FLOUR, CONTINENTAL RE, 1ST ALUMINIUM and most recently AG LEVENTIS to mention just a few, have either undergone a merger, aquisation or takeover/buyout. ...with the last 6 all brokered in less than a year !!
However, I think we might see a few more in the not-so-distant future.

Given the current position of their financial print(balance sheet position in view) in relation to their present equity prices, the following coys could be future candidates for a merger, aquisation or take over/buy out:

NEIMETH PHARMACEUTICALS, CHAMS, FO, GLAXOSMITHKLINE NIG, COURTVILLE, TRANEX(trans-nationwide express), UNIONDAC, PZ and BERGER PAINTS PLC.

Why?

1st off, is to ascertain if there are doubts surrounding the survival of these companies, so one doesn't lose their money taking(early) positions in them. And next, is to look in on their current earnings capacity, then gauge its relative sustainability over time.

On that line, keeping a tag on their OHLSONS O-SCORE(a key financial tool used to forecast if a company could go bankrupt), I see them remaining as a going concern. ...which makes them attractive candidates for 'external forces'(investors) who could bid to take them on at a cheap and turn them around.

...and using the EPP(earnings persistence approach: a valuation technique used to predict how often the earnings return of a coy will likely continue to reoccur over time after raking-off risk), I see a higher probability that any take over/buy out(should they occur) will be priced @ great premiums to their current market prices.
With some, at potential premiums of near 105% ROI !!

I particularly like the 1st 5.

On a side note, a few coys in the financial services sector, particularly the INSURANCE segment 'could also be up for grabs'... so watch that space !!

CAVEAT: This piece is only intended to look at quoted coys with chances of a merger, aquisation or takeover/buy out.
...it is NO licence to any sought of recommendation !!

My advise: Always do well to follow ur instinct.
Elsewhere, I have just added @ CADBURY Plc and @ ELLAH LAKES Plc to the list above. (possible candidates for a merger/acquisition or possible buy out/MTO in view)

I suspect that at least 3 other companies on the list above could also follow through... on or before the end of next year. (the 2 companies above inclusive)

2 coys from the list are already in line to be fulfilled.
Might be helpful to keep an eye on these coys.

Are Presco and Okomuoil the safest stocks on the NSE?

First Off, my analysis has two kinks in it;

1. D fact that I base solely on price action, no fundamentals
2. My data goes as far as March, 2020

OK, I computed d monthly returns (about 25 months) for d over 140 something equities traded on the NGX and filtered based on the following statistical measures;

1. Average returns: self explanatory, the higher the better.

2. Downside deviation from mean: Standard deviation is a well used measure of risk, the higher the STD the more volatile and less appealing the equity is. In d STD evaluation I only considered negative returns hence downside deviation.

3. Percentage of negative months: we want this number to be comparatively low.

4. Skewness and Kurtosis: There is a lot of literature on what these mean.

5. Jarque Bera test for normality: If a distribution is normal (gaussian distribution) then its properties are easily predicted. We know that d mean is the expectation, and that 68% of d returns are within 1 standard deviation, 95% within 2 and 99% within 3. No fat tails or dangerous outliers.

Conclusion: If you play safe, Okomuoil(slower but still good) and Presco is d way to go, an average monthly return of 4 to 5% respectively with very low volatility. In the short term (6 to 9 months maybe) this pattern is most likely to continue.
