You guys here lies unnecessary about Living in abroad esp in the US. Having lived here for years I can tell you that what you hear are mostly lies and overblown . I only advise anybody that makes between above 1.5million monthly in Nigeria to stay back and enjoy, but if you earn less than that, you will not regret been in the US as one starting over life or newbie without even papers. what I want to explain here is not the plight of established Nigerians with doc or that are already green card or citizens but the plight of B1B2 visa holders, info undocumented Nigerians, not having legal right to work but are struggling and are working hard.
There are rents between 500 to $800 every month. You can pay your other bills like electricity, water, gas all around less than 150. There are plenty ways to negotiate your bills and pay your gas even in winter now when everything is high. So you can be paying btw 700 to $1000 dollars for both rent and all your bills. Depending on the job you are doing as a new settlers with tourist visa and without any SSN to work, you can still make btw 2.5 to $6k (2.5to 4million monthly an you can comfortably save up to 50% monthly)every month even in average American state. This is the worst scenario for new Nigerian immigrants without papers. But the truth is that many of them may not pay up to $1000 monthly because they could be three in a three bedroom apartment and pay average of just 400 monthly, saving a huge. Many of us passed through this before we get where we are. I mean 80% of Nigerian will tell you this as far as they didn't come with green card, which means starting in a hard way till you get your papers. Once you get your papers and documents, you are free to asses many areas for your careers and start earning big . Nigerian here are not poor but above average. Rent of $2500 or whatever is a choice and rent does not strictly about the quality of a house in all cases but about the location. Eg you could have a great Duplex in epe that costs you 1 million monthly but thesame in VGC could be 10 million. Yes, places like los Angeles, San Francisco could be costly in tent but they do have a higher pay than other cities in Alabama, Mississippi etc where where salary is low and houses are cheap. That just it here too. I hate people discouraging others from Japa from Nigeria. Finally, life is hard in every parts of the world but some places are far far better than others
Y

You are right.Thats the average rent in Places like Maryland and co. Average two bedroom house is between 1k and 1k2 per month. Many share and pay 600usd per month and are able to save the remaining excluding food

Our people don't know that there are more homeless blacks including Nigerians in New York than Lagos.. they see the beautiful parts of "developed" countries and then dream of going there to live a luxurious life only to end up disappointed.

Fix your home country and stop this 'japa' syndrome.
Go into processing of agricultural products and earn big from them instead of putting all your millions into visa processing to japa.

I live in Milan Italy, sometimes when going to work early even in current winter, you see a lot of homeless blacks including Nigerians sleeping outside(Destitutes).
The grass is greener where it is watered.

What is the point of this post? distract? discourage? You talked about rising inflation, but that seems to be a global trend, and not neccessarily unique to the US/west. Nigeria's is 15 percent while it's roughly half that in most western countries. Besides, inflation normally batter the poor most, and a in a country like Nigeria with nonexistent safety net it is even worst. Also, you seem to be ignorant of the fact that would-be emigres have diverse reasons for leaving, for some it is the security and safety western countries offer, while for others a good health care system and stability are major factors.
That's what you see when people don't have that basic skill called critical thinking. They will just open mouth waah. Sigh

Haba bros. Why are you exaggerating? What kind of job will you be doing as an undocumented migrant and earn that much? 2k saving per month for an undocumented migrant? In fact stop using the word “undocumented”; it is actually “illegal” migrant. If you overstay your visa, a lot of doors will be slam shut in your face. How can you make that much money in a month?
Yes I know people earning 3 to 4k monthly and they don't pay more than 700usd per month , rent ., phone and gas.Average shared 2 bedroom rent is 500 to 600 per month in many states on the East coast

Its an inter-generational marathon you are too shallow and fickle to ever understand.

since you have a deep knowledge as to why we keep running this maraton as a nation, why not do something about it?

or you think you are the only who has the best interest of the country at heart? The japa people did too, but we don't seem to be having a headway that's why it is better to leave. If you feel you can stay back and fight the good fight, good for you and your family!! Your successors will love you for it.

I studied a bit in UK and worked small.
Like joke, I no just see that money.
As a student, you can only do part time work, ie 4hrs a day - £500 monthly. And E finish.
After graduation, I was doing 8 hrs a day. about £900 monthly. E still finish.
Rent, transport, gas heating (because of terrible cold), food, visa fees, school fees...
You can't just only work.
You must do another runs to get paper. And that one will chop the remaining of your money.
1, 2, 3, 4 years? Na im I kukuma return like that.

You will just be working as a slave.
Earn money, carry all and pay debts
Earn again, pay debts again!!
over and over and over till you are old.

That's the system
Most people live on paychecks..

I don't discourage people not to travel out ..
Go and see for yourself...

Even people with residence struggle...
Tho you enjoy where ur bills ND tax's is been spent on...

But why u no find one gal marry??
May God help us all

However you want to see it. Just know that if not for the bad leadership here, Nigeria would have been great.
In Nigeria, you rent an apartment and can park as many cars as the compound can accommodate, you use a bucket of water to wash boxers, you can flush the toilet after spitting inside it, if only we learn to turn off electric appliances we don't use, we will save energy.

Even with what you listed, life is still not as easy as you're made to believe.

Wishful thinking. Go to Somalia their citizens will still say the same. People don’t become great overnight. We’re developing at the level of our mentality and that of our leaders.

As you are staying back now, what have you built? Even as you have the stay back and repair mentality what have you successfully repaired? The people that want to japa, don't you think they've also thought to stay and work out but realised it's a mission impossible for them before they took the best decision which is to leave?

Abeg, y'all and your families can stay to repair the country, as for me, we are leaving. Enough of struggling with no fruitfulness. We didn't come to this world to suffer suffer till we grow and die
As you dey Japa be careful.

U just nailed it.
I worked in Nigeria for 10years in the Federal Civil Service & there was nothing to show for it.
Rather I was robbed serially by Armed Robbers.

Not up to 2 years I got into the US, I bought over someone's 4 bedroom flat as well as other landed properties.

In Fact, I resolved to be buying at least 5 plots of land each year. Despite this, I still have savings.
I pay people's school fees.
I do charity.

Most people ABROAD buy what they don't need.
What do I need iPhone 13 for when my 8 is efficient?
The obsession for things like iPhone in Nigeria is funny.I know a girl earning around 80k who saved up all her money to buy 350k iphone. What do you call that?

Rents varies from place to place in the USA

California,New York are high brow expensive areas, there are other American cities with cheaper cost of rent anyone japaing from Nigeria can stay.

As for gas prices I believe they will find a way out of it.

There are so many opportunities to tap in Nigeria especially with our population and large market availability but most of our people don't know that.. It's the Chinese, Lebanese, Indians etc that are coming to reap all the gains from our markets.

Times are hard everywhere now especially as a result of Covid and Oil sector crisis yet some of our people still put all their life savings on the line to japa only to end up in regrets.
If it's to take back Nigeria from our useless and corrupt leaders by force, then that's the way to go.

A lot of men contribute to the problem. A lot of men encourage women to sell their bodies for sex instead of working hard to earn a living
