Tell them, OP. I never regretted returning to Nigeria after my program in the US. They said village people were after me when I told my naija colleagues I was returning to Nigeria. Now, we can tell who are the village people chasing today. To the glory of God, my company is now expanding to African countries
what are you into?

What is the point of this post? distract? discourage? You talked about rising inflation, but that seems to be a global trend, and not neccessarily unique to the US/west. Nigeria's is 15 percent while it's roughly half that in most western countries. Besides, inflation normally batter the poor most, and a in a country like Nigeria with nonexistent safety net it is even worst. Also, you seem to be ignorant of the fact that would-be emigres have diverse reasons for leaving, for some it is the security and safety western countries offer, while for others a good health care system and stability are major factors.

No mind our American crew on nairaland. They only complain on nairaland to discourage others from migrating when things turn a bit sour but always keep their cool whenever it goes soft.

I tell you what? Whatever happens, developed Nations can't be compared with underdeveloped Nations, period!!!

Don't give up on your migration plans if you've got the money and convinced with your personal research of country of interest too!

If you are serious about going abroad and believe you have what it takes not to be a welfare candidate and waste government resources, then, apply for Canadian permanent residency.

If you don't have a college degree and pass the IELTS then you're not ready.

Rents varies from place to place in the USA

California,New York are high brow expensive areas, there are other American cities with cheaper cost of rent anyone japaing from Nigeria can stay.

As for gas prices I believe they will find a way out of it.

there is relativity..There is a reason why such cities are expensive..minimum wage can be higher there..using my profession as an example, u get paid more in Lagos,PH and Abuja..less in other parts of the country..

Yes I know people earning 3 to 4k monthly and they don't pay more than 700usd per month , rent ., phone and gas.Average shared 2 bedroom rent is 500 to 600 per month in many states on the East coast

Simple question: What do they do to earn that kind of money as illegal migrants?

There's high cost of living everywhere, like recently in the US, the cost of gas moved from $2 to $5 per liter.

Just know this fact before thinking of travelling.

Don't be caught unaware.

We've had enough stranded Nigerians in the diaspora already. Don't add to it.

Have enough money SAVED before you think of travelling.

Move this to front page please
Actually it is 5dolls per gallon not litre.

U dey US and don't know anything about US.

Gallon is more than litre.
3.785 litres make a gallon.
Even though it is still high considering the cost if change to naira, but don't comparr ur situation to what is happening here.
Am 30+,bsc holder, no work.
Now i can't apply for any govt jobs cos I'm above employability age.
Minimum wage in US is 6dolls oer hr in some states, California jacked theirs to 8dolls per hr.
If u work for 8hrs that is 64dolls equivalent to 30thousand naira daily. In a month that is 900k.

I studied a bit in UK and worked small.
Like joke, I no just see that money.
As a student, you can only do part time work, ie 4hrs a day - £500 monthly. And E finish.
After graduation, I was doing 8 hrs a day. about £900 monthly. E still finish.
Rent, transport, gas heating (because of terrible cold), food, visa fees, school fees...
You can't just only work.
You must do another runs to get paper. And that one will chop the remaining of your money.
1, 2, 3, 4 years? Na im I kukuma return like that.

You will just be working as a slave.
Earn money, carry all and pay debts
Earn again, pay debts again!!
over and over and over till you are old.
u mean you went through all this?

You tell me. I don't really know. And I'm not saying Nigerians are better off. I only said for conversation sake that the angle
u
from which you approached the subject is faulty. And I gave my reasons for that. Tell me the minimum wage, let's express the expenses as a percentage of that and we might just end up realizing both spend the same portion of thier earnings each year.

Minimum wage in Nigeria is 30,000 naira. I mentioned purchasing power right? if you didn't skip that part while looking for faults.

Abroad people don’t wake up praying for light to iron their clothes. They don’t put on generators to watch TV and charge their phones. They don’t come back from work and have to go fetch water in jerry cans. They don’t pray for basic things of life. They work very hard without rest but so do many Nigerians in addition to all the problems above
you still pay for it

Where exactly do you reside in the US, so you have being buying gas for $2 all this while? If you’re into delivery, Uber or Lyft that’s when you will feel the hike in price. Other than this aforementioned jobs it’s actually not a big deal. And stop stylishly discouraging people that wants leave the country, here in chi town our Nigerian community ain’t complaining, we all live according to ours means.
