Teaching in private secondary school is worse than Libya. Children can talk to you anyhow; misbehave na. You do not have time to start or learn any decent business or skill as the case may be. They can sack you at any point in time. To top it all, even if you save everything you earn, when they sack you, e no fit reach start common okrika business...

Simplest waste of youth...

Just last Thursday, a teacher in a private school scolded/chastised an SS1 female student for making noise, the girl asked the teacher" Uncle, se e ya were ni?" ( Uncle, are mad?).

The uncle wanted to beat the girl blue black but was held by other teachers.

You know what he did, he resigned with immediate effect after the who thing.

This is not the case for all private schools so please let's resist the urge to generalize. Some people where complaining about the pay of teachers in kogi state and i don't think anyone would pick that over what some private schools pay..A friend who happens to own a school actually pays the teachers well and i am certain because the principal earns 160k per month. As for the person who said the school owner was buying cars and no teacher had a bicycle, do you expect him to share with you beyond what was agreed to be given to you? It is even easier to negotiate an increase in salary than government owned schools..public schools pay according to general payment scheme and only increase your pay when you get promoted from the ministry of education.which of you will start a business and pay your staff so much that he buys cars and builds houses in this same nigeria? If you feel it is that easy, go then and start a school and pay 300k to your teachers..
This is even small, I know of a private school in Ogun State,in Akute to be precise,is a well known private school, the principal earns nothing less than 300k/month why some teachers get up to 150k/month,but the workload is far higher compared to the pay......the school is for the elite kids though, very expensive

Recently, I did a calculation with my sis-in-law who is a teacher in a private school. Her Annual net salary is around 240, 000 while her class alone makes 1.3million annually for the school.

Not true. Maybe this is the reality in your own area or where you're based.

But don't run a generalisation.

Can any small private school start a teacher's salary with 250k?

can you list them? Cus I will like to know them

During my course of sojourn in the teaching field, I have discovered that small schools pay more compared to bigger schools.

There's this big school I teach which pays me a bit higher than what a smaller school was paying despite having more than 3 times the population of the small one. They usually complain they pay a lot of people which is true but theres a good response to payment of school fees from the students as more than 80% of students pay before exam starts and 95% plus pay at exam commencement.

What are your views about this trend?

NB:The owner of the school has bought cars and houses and no teacher in that school has a bike. It's from hand to mouth.

Whoever graduates from a university in Nigeria and earns less than N50k per month deserves no sympathy. The essence of going to school is to learn not to be an employee. There are many things one can do to earn a good living in Nigeria. Do you know what killed decent living in Nigeria? Dishonesty! The people who can help are not willing to help because of the dishonesty tattooed in a typical Nigerian DNA. And they think they are wise.

And some idiots here, who probably are some of the many vile and wicked school owners out there, want teachers to start their own school just to justify paying pittance. Na God go judge you all. They will all be in Church today raising 'holy hands' that have been cursed and recursed by their very own ways. Una comeuppance go land laslas

You hear them? This one is probably feeding off from the proceeds of wicked school owners, because I doubt if IT can even own a room of his own.
Don't worry, someday, many would ditch this job and rather stay unemployed than take a teaching job.

It's already happening in my hood. School vacancies littering everywhere, even with just weeks to the end of term, and yet no one is willing to take up these available jobs.

E go clear for una eyes soon.

I once taught in a school around Ajah Lagos and was paid 75k. Even though the money seems reasonable, I couldn't bear the disrespectful and rude attitude of the over-pampered students towards the teachers.

The school management of big schools usually look the other way while these uncultured students from rich homes treat their teachers like dirts by insulting them at will.

As an ICT teacher, I could do better for myself in the tech industry than wasting my youthful self away in the name of teaching computer in secondary, so I quit after 1 year of teaching and I'm glad I did. cool

I BELIEVE u can train the children in your class to be well behaved and mannered
leave people complaining of the salary, many of them wont tell u the truth
some have lessons private and virtual they make money
some others also are doing other relevant courses
so if u are earning 15k and not doing anything about ur future, better start today
listen to koinoina global on youtube to be charged up

School children are very disrespectful these days. Mine happened exactly like this but in PH. The children feel that because their parents have some dirty little "change", they can insult a teacher and talk rudely to a teacher.

and you know what? I didn't even waste any time; I dumped their ass after just one term and moved on with my life.
