The point is they tend to deny based on flimsy excuses for a reason best known to them. He should reapply from singapore add more home ties both to singapore and nigeria just to prove he will go back. Because he has already applied for sowp that gives the VO the notion that he wants to relocate to canada and stay so they see is application for vv as a short cut to come in and when that expires he might not wanna go back. Let him write an LOE to hammer more on the real estate business and more reasons why he will leave after is visit and the childs situation and ur need for assistance then attach you extended study permit i believe that should fly. Wait for other suggestions from the gurus in the house
thanks skull4eva.

SOWP, VV and Study permit are all temporary visas (same intent) so if you apply for all 3 or 2 of them at the same time, one might be withdrawn for the other. Hence its not advisable.
Express entry is for PR application (a different intent).
You can have a PR application and a temporary visa application being processed at the same time (dual intent) but not two or more temporary visa applications.

Just chill and see how it goes. I only said its not advisable, not impossible.
If you look at the trend of some application decisions here: one application gets rejected or withdrawn with the reason that another temporary application is being processed or approved. There are a few instances where both have been approved though like the case of one guy here a few months ago.
No two applications are the same.

Thank you so much for the response
I appreciate.
Was thinking that it's worst if one shows dual intent rather than multiple application within a single intent

PPR, baby!!!!

Oh, wow. What a ride.

Applied for SOWP for my wife and VV for my 2 kids on Nov 17, 2021.

Then applied for VV on the new portal for all three on Dec 30, 2021.

Received GCMS notes 2 days ago, mentioning home ties. Then today, messages about both applications appeared in wifey's inbox. When I saw them, my heart sank. I felt, this is it. E don finish.

I opened the VV on the new portal first. It said "withdrawn because a visa has been issued for your SOWP". It's still like a dream! In short, PPR for SOWP on the old portal (VV for kids withdrawn) and PPR for kids on the new portal.

I have to mention @Lianna2020 for all her help and support. You're absolutely awesome!!!

To anyone still anticipating, please don't lose hope.

Cheers!!!
Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by technix: 2:13am On Mar 29, 2022
Not necessarily. Although dual intent is allowed, one still needs to prove that one will return home even if the PR is still under processing. It used to be a problem, until IRCC made the guideline clear.

As for multiple applications, a VO may just see it as a desperate move for an applicant whose application is already shaky. But really, it's not a big deal. If a visitor visa is approved, the work permit application will still be running. If a work permit application is approved, the visitor visa may be asked to be withdrawn (which is nothing negative except the 'lost' application fee).

Hello, newbie here. How do I add parent as hometies, do I just state it in the SOP or there is a document I need to attach?

Thanks

technix:
Hi,

This is fine. I can't sense any red flag here. If either of you has a parent, include them as hometies too.

Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by technix: 11:23am On Mar 29, 2022
Hi

State it in the LOE and attach means of ID such as international passport or national ID card (a way to show that they truly exist).

Good day all, i am new here and have been reviewing the comments posted thus far which have been tremendously helpful. My wife is currently in canada studying and i am applying for sowp and will like to know if it is indeed absolutely required i pay with my card. I intend to use my wife credit card as my application for a USD card is delaying more than normal with my bank. Someone is advising me not to use a card with a name different from mine. I will appreciate some thoughts on this.

You can use any card. Your partner, third party, or whatever, it has no impact on your app

Hello people, Please when denied a SOWP visa and you decide to apply for a visit visa for spouse n kids instead of reapplying for SOWP, do you need to state and address the reasons for the refusal of the SOWP in your LOE for VV?
NB: Refusal reason was majorly hometies. Do we just apply for vv and state all things normally including ties, pof or do we explicitly mention the refusal for SOWP? Please I need clarification.

Hi all,

I have some related questions about SOWP and the condition that says - "Unless authorized, prohibited from attending any educational institution, or taking any academic, professional or vocational training course".

Does anyone know if there is any way to interpret this condition or is it a "NO, NO" whether in-person vs. remote training or short vs. long term training course for work in Canada?

Specifically, does this condition affect the common health care (PAB/PSW/CPR) training required for popular health care support work?

Does anyone have direct experience with this matter especially the implications on future applications for PR or permit extensions?

Thanks.
Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by technix: 6:33pm On Mar 31, 2022
Hi,

Generally, you don't need study permit for training or courses less than 6 months.

Even if it's more than 6 months, one can still do some training or courses with SOWP, e.g., Quebec French language course, which lasts for more than a year.

I believe if a study permit is needed for a training, you will be advised. Ideally, you won't be allowed to register for such training without a study permit.

You can do any of the two, depending on your writing style. But either way, you will have to place much more emphasis on the previous refusal reasons, e.g., emphasise home ties.

Already, in my opinion, there is more burden of proving home ties for VV than for SOWP.

Here it goes.

I got my AIP 7 days after submitting application back in 2020 and arrived in Canada Jan 2021. Waited till I was settled then I applied for wife's sowp along with son's vv in June and then the wait began. My wife works with one of the leading HMOs back home. We did upfront medical for both of them.

Nairaland was our go to for info. We read from page to page. In October I contacted the MP for my area. After the back and forth, I was told the application was just sitting in Nairobi, yet to be treated because of the volume of applications they have. She however suggested that I do a visitor's application for my son on the new portal hoping that once that is treated, it will prompt them to work on his mum's sowp. I asked if I should do the visit for both of them but she suggested just my son. In Nov, I applied for vv for my son and it was approved in 19 days. Then we continued to wait.

When nothing happened on her application by mid Jan this year, I put in an application for her too on the new portal. At that point I stopped reading nairaland because I stopped being genuinely happy for those who got their approval in one, two or three months. Here we were in our 7th month.
I must say at this point that I usually sent in webforms every other week on behalf of my wife, attaching my transcript, tuition and study permit each time. I also sent mails to the email addresses shared here.

At 40th week I started considering using an immigration lawyer. Two days ago, 41st week, I woke up and saw like 6 mails from ircc. My heart skipped a beat. I didn't bother to open the mails, I logged in directly because I knew it was either good news or good news. We have waited this long for nothing else. And there it was. My son's vv was withdrawn on the old portal while my wife's sowp was approved. Her vv application on the new portal was also withdrawn stating her sowp was approved.

I can't describe the feeling. It's really awesome.
Here's a message to everyone waiting: God is working constantly. Though he hasn't forgotten you, keep reminding him of the situation. Keep believing, your joy too will be full.
I'll be more than happy to answer questions. You can ask here.I don't have access to the mailbox I used in opening this account so personal mails can't be reached. Thanks all
