Solignum, Kerosene and used Motor Oil*

I shared this trick some years back but few who don’t understand the dynamics condemned it.

The truth is used motor oil cannot completely dry Thus it helps in stabilize your roofing wood and make them stronger and more durable.

So unless you’re having problems at untreated nail points/joints, your roofing woods can last forever when treated with used motor oil.

I did that on my personal build though I have very solid woods and I never regret it. Having double layer of protection doesn’t harm.

Bros people do fumigate house with very harmful chemical substance and still live in that house after some hours (maybe 24 or 48 hours).

I’d kick against overexposure to used motor oil but it’s one-off treatment and you’d still have about 2 - 3 months (at least) to work on the completion of any project before human habitation. This literally mean the treated woods are/should be safe by then.

@HSLBroker2 perhaps you can shed some light on this.

PS: I’ve never been and will never be a participant in using used motor oil for anything.

Don’t forget to get them rubber gloves to use when applying the chemicals. It cost between 500 - 1000

Solignum do cause a lot of irritation when applying it on woods and it’s instantaneous .

Does going to the bush to buy roofing wood make any sense? NO!

Does having quality woods that are standard in measurements and are very durable make any sense? YES!

Does it matter where they came from? NO! YES! NO! YES!!

We live in a flight or fight world. If you don’t understand something, attack it, condemn it or run away from it.

But for me, if I don’t understand something. I see it as an opportunity to learn something new and expand on it through research.

I don’t even care who wins the Nobel Prize. If it makes sense, I’m in.

Yes is internal door

Used motor oil is carcinogenic. The heat on the roof will react to produce dangerous gasses which you will be inhaling. Don't use your money to buy cancer.
People here are giving advice on things they are not competent. There were times you can take advice on this thread to the bank. Not anymore.
Caveat emptor should be added after advice from some people here!
