If you aren't going to school to study any of the courses listed below, pls don't bother going at all:

•Medicine
•Nursing
•Pharmacy
•Computer Science
•Radiography
•Some engineering courses

If it's not any of the above, abeg sit down for house, use that money you would have used to pay school fees and get a Laptop... start learning to code,in 8 months time, you'll be glad you did so.

What I came to realize about life is this; our parents know what they've seen when they urge and insist we study "professional" courses in school, but we young folks disregard their point of view as "ancient"... I for example was studying Botany in the university, reasoned what I'll do with this thing in the long run... omorr I saw I was just wasting my time oh,took jamb in my third year, applied for pharmacy in a federal university, got the admission... I'm really glad I made that decision.

Living in Nigeria is hard... don't make it harder for yourselves by studying Nonsense
if you like have First class in medicine. Na grace person take dey get work for naija not those courses listed above. I know of a first class electrical electronics student back then, he is now working as a messenger in Michelin tires company. Then I know a guy that studied Agric SC at AAU, he is now a local govt chairman driving Prado with excorts.

Lol. It's not a rubbish course just that there are few industries in Nigeria. They can't take all the Biochemist graduates.

You should have considered that before choosing your course.

If you follow Nigeria school system very well, you will no that 80% of biochemistry student are those that couldn't make it to medicine and surgery that ended up in biochemistry. It was never my choice of course and I did not have anybody to guard me through when applying for university, though the internet was never rampant like now. So I ended up chosen the wrong course. That is why I am shouting it here for the younger generation never to make the mistake I made

If you understand life, you will not make this subjective statement with such conviction.
I studied a course that if I offer you one million naira to make ten guesses, you will definitely loose 11 out o 10 times but I have never been unemployed since graduation and I have earnings in the top 2% of all professions in Nigeria without connection and completely on merit.
So yes, some courses seem to be lucrative but I believe time and chance happens to all things.
All you must ensure that you do, regardless of your course of study, is to be excellent and your chances of success are logarithmically higher!

It's been almost two decade since my graduation as an engineer. l have acquired a master's degree and certification. l have worked as an engineer, operations manager & sales manager.

l have not acheived the financial buoyancy l desired. l still struggle to pay my bills. l beleive l would have fared better as a lawyer or an accountant.
What's your opinion on this?

Accounting.
I would have been more happier as an engineer. I was a science student and set out to study electrical/electronic engineering before diverting to Accounting.

Secondly, my MBA. As an accounting student, i found my MBA to be totally irrelevant and a waste of time.

My advice to everyone:

Even if na Yoruba Education dem give you, try to graduate with a 2:1. Why? Big 4 accounting firms and multinational companies would employ you with any degree in as much as its a 2:1.
Also, with a good grade, you have the opportunity of getting foreign scholarships and your own don better if na STEM. Your own don better pass everybody own if you were able to publish your final year project.

I am talking as a university lecturer who schooled outside Nigeria. The moment I see talent that is wasting, I would grab it like hawk wey dey thief chicken and mentor the person. I have seen a first class finance grad stay jobless for 6 years. Write ICAN, e nor gree. Open LinkedIn, mba no. Oya na wetin you wan do with your life? “I want to be a lecturer”. This lecturer work wey me sef wan try to escape? Your village people no try.

Again, I am seeing many of my ex students approaching me to write papers and put their names on it as co author so they can use it to gain scholarships. Same students that were extremely disrespectful and refused to be serious with their project when they were students. Me, I should use my money to do research and I will now spend 150k to publish and I should add your name? Can you do analysis? No. Do you have a laptop? No. Will you pay for the secondary data? No. You try.

In a nutshell, I am begging you all in the name of God to be serious with your project.
good day sir!

I studied Geography and Planning, graduated 2020 with 4.3CGPA. I pretty know what i want in life but finances had been a limiting factor

I'm still job haunting. I need something that'd put food on my table and pursue my dream simultaneously.

Don't know if you can be of help sir.

Pharmacy and computer are not part of them sir, instead, medical laboratory and make sure you know it intoto, as a medical lab scientist, just attach urself to 3 to 5 private medical doctors in ur area, you can tell them you would be given them returns from ur proceed.......with that, sky is ur limit.
Pharmacy? What did you smoke?
I haven't seen an unemployed pharmacist in this country.
I'm a Pharmacist and will never regret being one.

Shey you know employment opportunities for pharmacists are becoming thinner, unless you want to work in someone else’s established pharmacy and earn less than 120k.
How many undergraduates in Nigeria earn up to ₦120k in Nigeria, though it's small but it's a good start.

Any better for that Chemistry cos I no wan waste my time?

still in 200L and the course come still hard for me

Ensure you graduate with a good result from school and at least among the best 4% of your class, write GRE and TOEFL, and JAPA.

While in school, reach out to your lecturers and beg them to include your name as a co-author in their publications. I made this mistake in my undergrad days but thank God for His mercies.

Chemistry is heavily funded in US and Canada (much emphasis on the heavily).

Studying Industrial physics in Nigeria was not a good option at all. I wish I did computer science. Still struggling to foot my bills since 2013 I graduated till now.

Hmmmmmm!
As a physicist, your options are unbounded and limitless!
The physics in it's raw form may not have much application in the Nigerian labour market except for education (teaching) but one can maximize the cross functional industries.
You could move into programming if your are smart or computer networking. You already have a solid base in programming. Don't know about the school you graduated from but in Unizik, the physics undergraduate students take about 12 credit load courses in programming.
Or you could also move into networking. Do internship and acquire certifications.

Another hotspot is the intersection of machine learning and physics especially wrt to particle physics. Physics Professors in the US are aggressively looking for physicists that understand machine learning techniques.

My dear, you may be anything in the world but don't mislead young people. There's something called cumulative advantage. Those things count and can be helpful moving on in life. Even if you will eventually do other things in life, one should strive to gun for the best and where there are better opportunities.

Law is worse, if you're not connected.

Being an Engineer gives you that respect in the society. Everything is not about money. Irrespective of your field, anybody can struggle to pay their bills in this part of the World. The economy of the country favours only one career.... "politicians"

Combination of hard drugs in neighborhood chemist shop making you go crazy.

How many of such pharmacy graduates earning well, compare to profession you can set up on ur own and leave averagely.

Go out and ask how much they do medical test, these are the tests that must come on daily basis

Pharmacy is one on big course with nothing to show after graduation, do urself justice, go and do statistics of pharmacist graduates and ask them how many get good job after graduation?

Do gragra in sch as if it's by big name course.

Wen your brain is settled, you should also ask urself, how many pharmacy companies thriving in Nigeria, how many graduate of pharmacy can start his own company?

I’ve stated it already if you can read through this thread. It’s far better than many courses out there but it doesn’t meet my expectation when compared to how much Tech boys earn per gig cause they earn thousands of US dollars.
