It was the same view (Christian) they used to justify SLAVERY. According to them, you are the descendant of Ham (whatever that means).
ham is one of the 3 sons of prophet Noah(annabi Nuh)after disembarking the ark from the deluge,he's the father of the black race.

Not everybody kill and eat python.
Since the OP said "sit at home" then it means that it was most probably in Igboland and more than 80% of Ndigbo don't kill or eat python.
Besides the title of thread clearly said "saved"

This is one of the things wrong with this forum and as well as Nigerians in general. If Nigerians ever considered Ndigbo as part of their country or this forum know anything about Igbo people, any time stories with pics of cooked python grace front page, they must include "GRAPHICS" as a way of warning Igbo people that might visit it.

But as Usual, Nigerians keep proving that they know absolutely NOTHING about Ndigbo

Are you in Ogidi

Growing up in that eastern hinterland saw me and my friends play hide and seek with Eke idemili (python). This snake is gentle and would do everything it takes to stay out of harm's way. It is revered, worshipped and sacred.

It's virtually every where one turns. Under your bed, in the ceiling, under your table and boy ! I kid you not. These creepy creations are always in places unimaginable.

Sometimes in the night, As a boy (nwoke) hungrily waiting around the three stones supporting a Boiling pot, as mama puts all required ingredients to cook us AKPU and ofe onugbu. we would chat and discuss heartily how the day went... At some point, one would feel something cold rub, massage his Achilles heel which would give you a chilly sensation and you'd quickly scamper. when you go for the kerosene lantern to confirm what it is; you'd see the EKE in it's full glory slithering way like a visitor with abandon.

Till this day the custom is still respected.

Op wouldn't kill that lovely snake because it's an abomination, a taboo and sacrilegious. There's a price for anyone who kills them.

Rivers State is not ndigbo , and a significant amount of rivers people eat snakes , you did not make your calculations well ,
Anyone who doesn't eat snake in Rivers is doing it because they don't want to , not because of anything , in my town the thing forbidden for human consumption is the olu ( a giant land crab that lives in holes) it's house is close to the river but the house is on land just close enough to the river, they are believed to be Messengers and if anyone eats one the pot or plate used for cooking and eating will be destroyed , the olu looks like a big version of akanga ( they build their houses on mudflats and can survive both on land and on water , you'll find holes plenty in mud thats where they stay ) we used them as traps for fish but they're also not eaten , I don't know why

also a curse on anyone who tastes human meat even by accident , it can lead to death , I witnessed just one person who experienced that , but snake is eaten by alot of Rivers people , even snake fish

When he says Rivers, you Ijaws and Ogonis should stop feeling funky. They aren't mentioning you.

As I saw the phyton ,so many things ran through my mind ,kill it or save it , because I haven't killed eke idemilli before and the owner of the trap won't kill it either talk more of eating it , then the only option left was to save the phyton or it leave it to die they ,so I choose to save the phyton then the question is how .

But thanks to natgeo wild ,I have watched wild life consevertion documentaries ,I decided to save the wild phyton because of my childhood memories of nature ,I was hurt of not seeing butterfly and caterpillars as I used to , no thanks to human encouragement ,so I decided to borrow a leave from those saving wildlife I had watched it scary for I haven't touched a Snake before but I summoned the courage to try , so find a knife and a rag useed to scare animal and pests o covered the phyton head and grab it and began to cut those net ,it wasn't easy as the knife was discarded and blunt.

You knew it: this python does not harm anyone in Igboland. Igbos neither kill nor eat it.

These igbo regions don't eat snake
-All of Anambra
-Almost all of Anioma minus few parts of Ika and some pocket of communities
-Almost all of Imo. In Owerri, they call her Eke Nworie
-Almost all of Enugu minus Nsukka, Enugu Ezike and few pocket of communities
-more than half of Abia and significant amount of Rivers state.
-Few parts of Ebonyi. It is Ebonyi that have the lowest amount of People that respect Python.

So tell me, is this not more than 80%?

Remember that Ebonyi state that doesn't have much communities that respect the deity is not that populated.

Either I'm seeing things or you didn't check what I was replying , so I've posted it up

I don't know about others coz I'm from riverstate and Igbo people are very fond of adding Rivers in their list of Igbo land even if Rivers people don't speak Igbo nor do they have the same traditions as them , you can start from page 1 you'll find out where he was asked to list the IGBO societies and that's what he was answering
And the second thing Rivers people no dey carry eye see snake , python or no python , they can kill it and still eat it that's another thing he wasn't sure about and he posted
I've never heard of a snake that was seen and not killed , you go dey pass you will just see it's smashed body on the road under sun so it doesn't come back to life grin

I wonder why if it were Burmese phyton that were endemic to that region, you lot won’t control the population until it wiped out the local wildlife in that vicinity.theses creatures breed fasters than most animals, so you have to keep the population in check to preserve your wildlife..Y’all know better than the whites abi.
