I will use myself as an example. Often times one can not negotiate the price very well and could be forced to buy at exorbitant price cos u don't want to walk away empty handed and not make it look like u just came to price the goods whilst u can walk away from a stranger e no gree ẹ no gree ni

Plenty examples dey. Last year Dec while travelling for the hols we wanted to buy dresses for neighbours children at home. We had priced one short in a shop and we bargained 4,500 we went outside and said oh our big aunty in d area also sells children's wears let's go to her shop though we knew once we go there and price one we would ve no other choice than to buy. We picked a short similar to the one we had priced elsewhere and she said 6k last we bought it like that and we went back to the other shop to buy the other dresses we wanted.

Abi the neighbour's shop that her goods are over priced and once u price u cant just walk away without buying abi the one that there grinding machine is dirty making ur pepper look black so we always walk down the street abi the one that sells stale bread.

So bro it is not out of envy or hatred, buying from neighbours or family can make u buy what u don't like or buy at over priced amount

It's base on price preference, your mom goods might be more shocking 'smile' than the other counterpart...

I think majorly, it is about getting the best of bargain... Imagine your neighbour saying "because na you, pay ₦5k" whereas you fit get same thing lesser else where. But shame no go gree you fit price am or say you no want am again.

As for me, I patronize my neighbors very well because I have no issues discussing about my purchases or withdrawals.

(I sell phone accessories a stone throw from my house and because of my neighbors, I bring home some items from the shop.... They can come in the morning or late at night to patronize me even at home)

From experience, there are countless reasons for such act and most times genuine regardless of the niceness and respect of the sellers to the customers...
My mum has a store and I don't even patronize her a times because I buy my things in bulk, sometimes sef I give her list to help me get them when she goes to market herself because I know how much I will be saving for myself... And some people, when it comes to foodstuffs, would not want close neighbours to know what they are having for the day and some don't have much, so they won't want the seller to judge their financial capacity.. But the most annoying part my mum does not like is buying everything elsewhere when you have money only to come to her to want to buy on credit.

Well, in my own case, I don't care o. I get people wey dey come from afar i.e another town etc, so the ones around no fit dey bother me.

There is this my Neighbor that buys from one hawker, the hawker in turn buys from me as wholesaler.
Last last, the money dey enter my hand.

To pepper him, I will send someone to buy me what he sells from another seller that do patronise tho farther away than his place, I will stand in front of my place and direct the person to another store and told him to go there and if they don't have, the person should return my money, sometimes he is always in front of his place when I do that.

He got to a point, he shamelessly came to patronize me but I no send am, though I patronised him when he did, he reverted back to his way.

It is born out of envy/jealousy. That kind thing no suppose dey freak person.

I have a barber that has been cutting my hair for years, he is giving me exactly what I want and I don't see any reason why I should go somewhere else. Even before I travel I make sure I cut my hair before leaving so it won't get rough before I come back......I have a barber shop a stone throw from my house, I talk to the guy as a guy man but I haven't gone to his shop to have a haircut........It doesn't mean I don't like him.

Everyone has the right to patronize whom they want to patronize. I use a salon in my street. But anytime I change my hair style, the lady will be looking at me somehow. I'm sure in her mind she will be like..so you didn't come to patronize me. Why do people do that?

2nd reason is quality and price differential. Most neighbors will take advantage of the closeness to sell u rubbish..
