Technically it is accurate to say that standup is obsolete.
It had been losing it's demand for years but it totally plunged for an extended period all through 2020 due to COVID, and into early 2021.

But perhaps the biggest damage in the long run to standup comedy is streaming services of the internet where people can easily get tons of content in comedy easily.

People are addicted to their devices nowadays and it shows in the declining attendance of live shows.
